I totally see it. It will be awesome if Aria is Liara's father!

Seems a bit contrived, but I could see it.

I wonder though... how does that even work? Not sure about parthenogenic females but I know that hermaphroditic species tend to get both partners pregnant. How does the asari reproduction system determine who is the "mother" and who's the "father," since it appears that only one gets pregnant from the encounter?

The bartender says she was the father in the pureblood relationship. They can probably choose.

Somehow that seems unlikely to me. I mean, maybe the asari have something similar to modern contraceptives that determine which asari gets pregnant but I can't imagine it evolving that way.

Maybe it is possible for both to become pregnant but asari have such low fertility (to counteract their long lifespans) that it doesn't often happen that way?

One asari probably decides to be the mother and the other the father...I guess. Mating is a conscious decision for them after all.

Well we dont know for sure but I just dont think that they both get pregnant. I mean we know they can control the pregnancy with other species so why not with each other?

I theorise that the asari consciously choose. You know how in an asari/non-asari meld the asari takes her partner's genetic information and uses it as the basis for their child's genetic make-up? Well I believe that in an asari/asari bond, the pair of them will make a conscious decision as to who the "father" will be, and who will take on the father's genetic information and conceive the child. That's my take, anyway.

If Benezia was the older, wiser, asari, she might have taken mental advantage of a younger, naive, asari when she 'made' Liara....I still think this 'father' of Liara's was willing though, but freaked out after the deed was done. So tragic.

Heh, I see I'm in the minority here. I have no problem with that. It just breaks my sense of realism though, granted, the asari do that as a general rule.

Benezia obviously valued their relationship alot though, as Liara says that the pair of them splitting up caused Benezia alot of pain and she avoided talking about it. I think Benezia wanted a bondmate, conceived Liara before Liara's father then left her, and Benezia was left heartbroken and raised Liara alone.

She could have also died.

Benezia valued it but the younger asari might have been one of her pupils just trying to get ahead in life.   She may have thought about it and regretted it afterwards.  Thus, she ran!!

I know...that's why I added the 'willing' part to the end.

Benezia wasn't a sex offender or a rapist!! The young asari was willing at the time but changed her mind later when the idea of the responsibility of raising a child set in and she freaked out.

How would that make Liara feel, though? Would she feel like her father didn't love her? Would she feel like her father hated her? Would Liara feel "unwanted" and like she was a mistake?

I just don't want anymore pain for Liara. :/ She's suffered enough.

All of those questions are bound to run through Liara's head, though. It's only natural. I know it seems like Liara has made peace with the fact that she's never had a father, and that she was never there for her and has accepted that. But if Liara's father were to show up, it would change everything and could hurt Liara quite badly.

Thats why I think its better for them to never show her father.

Agreed.

When Liara's got a caring Shepard and friends, she doesn't need the father she never had. It'll still hurt, of course, it always will, but I'm sure that even if her father came back and opened those old wounds, the right support from Shepard and/or any other caring hands could guide her through it.

Plus, Liara's got a bit more of a backbone than I think some are giving her credit for.

She's wanted by all our Shepard's here.

But a non-romanced Liara should have some family!    Like Aria....

Yeah, ME2 shows this.
She isnt such a "damsel in distress" as most people think.
