By now, I think of DLC from Bioware as feeding everyone's "gambler's instinct".
"Maybe I'll win this time...alright, I didn't win. Maybe this time. Nope. Again. Nothing. I'll try again. A little pay-out this time, I'll use my winnings to play again. I lost everything! Alright, let me just call my broker..."
What's worse is when people commit the Monte Carlo Fallacy. The absolute worst, though, is when people take this and think that it somehow justifies the shady business practice I mentioned before, wherein a video game company strips content from the release of a game and sells it later, at additional cost to the consumer.
"It can't possibly get any worse, right? I got all of my bad luck out of the way. It's smooth-sailing from here on out!"
