I thought that Tali was the romanceable alien in ME1 intially too j, suffice to say I was very pleased it turned out to be Liara.

Did you figure out it was Liara straight away when you went to Therum to pick her up?

I loved Liara the minute i took down the gooy blue sheild

Not initially, I think I first figured it out during the debriefing after Therum when Ash got a annoyed with Liara. Plus, Tali was just a talking Codex ;-)

Did you figure out it was Liara straight away when you went to Therum to pick her up?

I think that's why.  I figured out it was Liara by looking it up on line.  I was worried b/c there was no 'flirty' dialog with Tali (and I was trying!) so I thought I messed up.   Then I looked online, saw the romanceable female was an 'asari' and not a 'quarian' and I realized I just had the wrong one.  I didn't even have Liara at that time, but I ran to get her so I could get my female alien loving going on.

Curious, I never thought that Tali might be romanceable, and I never wished for it either. In fact, the first time even the possibility occurred to me, was when I read the ME 2 forums before release (usually I stay away from any information about a game I'm interested in, but I had a bad feeling about ME 2, and I'm glad I was warned before playing it). I admit that I was - and am - very surprised about the apparent demand for that romance.

Anyway, back to the topic. Once I saw that Liara was a permanent crew member, I immediately hoped that she would be a romance option, and fortunately there were very promising signs of that. Just like I already disliked ME 2 before meeting Liara, I loved ME 1 even before meeting her. Her romance was the icing on the cake, so to speak. And it turned out almost perfect, the developers certainly did a fantastic job back then.

Yep, the romance dialogue and progression with Liara is great. The development of Shepard and Liara's relationship and love feels very genuine, very real and very mature. It's believeable. It feels like how a realistic attraction between two people would develop.

Some say it happens 'too fast'.  What you say to that?

well my first ME1 playtrough was -no romances @ all
when it finished i thought like "WHY I CAN'T LOVE LIARA OH WHY!!!!" THEN i watched some online vid and read an article and i found out that i can so i went like OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!  and instantly did replay -JUST TO ROMANCE LIARA
oh ...good old memories....
good old ME1....
good old LiLi.....

first time i recruited her last as i couldn't find the planet...THEN [3times-1 engineer-1 sentinel 1-biotic adept] it was always LIARA GO FIRST and "WHEN I CAN TALK TO U AGAIN LIARA?"
