Like we discussed over PM before, J. It's restrictions to the amount of romance dialogue with Liara imposed by the fact that she can be picked up quite late. Consequently, they had to condense the development of Liara's attraction into a fewer amount of romance conversations. If you actually listen to how Liara's attraction develops, it's very believable and healthy. It goes from an interest in Shepard on a scientific level to the development of romantic attraction. It just feels quick because they were limited in the amount of conversations they could do.

I agree but some do not see the nuances and only go by the fact that she admits attraction to you in the second dialog.  I always felt it was mature of her to admit this attraction as soon as it manifested, instead of hiding it or playing coy.  She feels the attraction, thinks Shepard does feel the same too, and decides to get it out into the open and discuss it and possibly do something about it.    She is in no way ready to bed Shepard at this time, nor does she want to.

As usual, if you have any questions or concerns regarding our community or this message, please let me know.

What if we have some questions about Liara's role in ME 2?

This is a reminder that, as mature individuals, we can disagree with each other without name-calling, insults, and other nastiness. I'm okay with giving the Liara thread its freedom, but if I start receiving complaints about people's bad behaviour in here, I'll have to start monitoring the thread more closely, and y'all probably don't want that.

Thanks for the warning, Woo.  And we all sincerely appreciate you allowing us the freedom to discuss our BBG.

I don't agree with that at all. First, the progress is tied to your progress in the main story. I like that concept a lot, it prevents you from being able to pretty much see the whole romance at once, like you can in DA or ME 2. That's what I call "too fast".

Second, the dialogue is perfectly fitting, and it's enough. Of course you always wish for more, but one has to be realistic. Of course, I for one also always imagine there's more going on between what we get to see. And finally, the way the ME 1 LIs are integrated into the story, goes a long way to make me feel their romances are much more alive, and make me feel they're "longer" than they actually are too.

And if anyone says Liara is too quick to fall in love with Shepard, well... it happens. I think there are several reasons for that, all pretty much visible in the game. So even if it is "fast", why should that have to be a bad thing?

Yep. Liara will only meld with Shepard on her own terms, and she isn't ready to. She wants to take her time, to be absolutely sure of their trust and love for each other. Only then will she consider their relationship ascending to a sexual and physical plane.

I do agree with you as well that Liara is very honest and forthright about her initial attraction to Shepard. Shewouldn't be coy and secretive about it.

Right, now there's more people active on here, I'm gonna repost this list of four upcoming fics...

During ME2
  • Shepard takes Liara out on a date - Liara gets slightly drunk - hilarity/cuteness ensues
  • Shepard and Liara get stuck in a satan-spawn ME1 elevator. Lack of oxygen gets things a little steamy and there's some hotness/fluffyness
After ME2
  • Shepard and Liara go on vacation to earth, and a ghost from Freya's past causes problems
  • After a double-date with Miranda and Jack goes badly wrong, Liara and Jack have to work together to rescue their loved ones.
Now, this isn't an ego thing - I have a question - which do you guys want to see first?

a little side note what i have noticed: When S. Woo says "end of line" it's pretty bad
when it's "Thank you"-then it's still cool
probably a bit offtopic thing-sorry

I'm partial to the Miranda/Jack double date as I love that pairing.  And I like the notion that Liara is the one to save Shepard.

She will do, ratz. She will do! Liara's still her same old compassionate self deep down!

MDK, like J I prefer the double date fic. The idea of Liara saving Shepard is very compelling!

I think people think it's 'bad' b/c they feel her admission of attraction is also a proposition to want to sex you up and become 'bond-mates' after only knowing each other for a few weeks of game-world time.   This clearly isn't the case as she even tells you that she would prefer that part of the relationship to be put on hold.

I don't know...it seems all most every LI is 'attracted' to Shepard early on, but these feelings don't get admitted until later.  Liara just admits that they are there as soon as she realizes they are happening.  At first, she thought the feelings were out of 'scientific curiosity' (and they probably were) but she realizes they've changed and admits this to Shepard.

That's how I interpret it. Initially, Liara's feelings were mere scientific curiosity, but with nurturing from Shepard via talking to her, they developed into a romantic attraction and Liara becoming interested in Shepard the person, as she admits. She even discreetly looks up Shepard's service history, so as not to embarrass herself whilst talking to her again. I thought that was pretty cute.^_^

Right, it clearly isn't the case. So if anyone still says it, they either weren't paying attention at all, or are somehow trying to find negative things to say about Liara or the ME 1 LIs in general. As I said, you can see an entire ME 2 romance - except the love scene - in probably less than 1/2 hour, if you just repeatedly do one of the dumb and short side missions to unlock the next dialogue. That's a much bigger problem than a character who may be quick to admit their attraction to Shepard (who is genuinely awesome! after all).

I would like to see that, even though my canon Shepard isn't earth-born. It would certainly be nice to show our beautiful blue planet to our beautiful blue Liara.

That is true...you can get through those ME2 romances quick...I did all three female romance options on one save in an afternoon.  It's nice for when you just want to check them out, as you don't have to play the whole game and can just do a few quickie N7 missions.

I like the 'almost kiss' locker scene too...it ties into the plot in another way that is really meaningful, since the LI is there for Shepard during her personal 'low' point .  ME2 missed this nice little touch.

Yep, the locker scene also presents a more "human" side to Shepard too, in that she's not some kind of superhero with no emotions. Also, I love how Liara reinvigorates Shepard and fills her with strength and courage to carry on, and complete their mission. It's a very touching scene, and a nice touch. It shows Liara comforting Shepard in a period of vulnerability. I really like that.
