Ah Somebody, you must be blind then. Aria is clearly the parent liara gets her good looks and beautiful facial structure from.

I resent both those statements.

On a more Liara-related topic, has anybody given much thought to asari biology? I had a thought the other day that made me think about. I think someone here (forget who) suggested that the reason asari have natural biotics (unlike virtually every other species in the games) is because Thessia may have an unusually large amount of eezo on its surface. Thinking about this gave me an insight into why the asari might live so long as well.

Exposure to eezo in humans and other species usually results in cancer and death, correct, with biotic abilities developing in only a few? Well then, it seems natural that the asari (and other species on Thessia) would have developed some way to counteract the cancerous effects of eezo over several million years of exposure. And the Codex does mention that the asari have exceptional cellular regenerative systems, which may include the ability to repair damaged DNA (which is what causes cancer). Perhaps the regenerative systems developed in response to the cancerous effects of eezo and eventually developed further to give asari their long lives.

Thoughts? It's just an idea that occurred to me.

That was me who suggested that, I think, a long time ago.  There are other biotic organisms on Thessia, like the primate-analogues mentioned in the Cerberus Daily News.   If the Asari aren't the only naturally-biotic, naturally-occuring species on Thessia, then there might be a common explanation for how they are both natural biotics.

Look...

Face shape:  Exact same.

Nose:  Same!

Mouth area:    Same!

Eye area:  Well, that's different.  Aria has that pronounced brow that Liara doesn't.

I made a lot of the same compairisons with Samara befor Mass Effect 2 came out. Obviously, it was not the case. But there actually are some of similarities between the two.

I think it was you, now that you mention it.

And I imagine that since asari are naturally biotic it only follows that a fair number of other species on Thessia have biotic abilities. It seems absurd to imagine asari are the only ones.

One of the scannable planets in ME2 that is rich in eezo mentions that about 127,000 years prior, a bunch of starships did battle for that world, and that their drive cores leaked eezo all over the planet. In the wake of the extinction event that followed, many species on that world developed biotic abilities.

That's a very interesting theory, and makes alot of sense. High amounts of natural eezo exposure hs caused the asari to evolve their robust cellular regenerative systems, and also made all of them natural biotics. Very interesting.

Ha! Thanks for reminding me of that. That's almost exactly what I was thinking happened to the asari homeworld, though I was thinking more in the range of 50 to 100 million years prior and that it may have been a natural event, like a piece of eezo flotsam from an exploding supernova (relatively, in galactic terms) nearby. I may have been subconsciously reaching on that codex entry.

This is a possibility and it makes sense.   It's possible that at first, the species died because of all that eezo but in time, it changed them, made them stronger and 'biotic'.  Kind of like what happened with the krogan, except with predators determining their evolution.

Wow, an entire post without going into how cute and adorable Liara is, how much she loves Shepard, how torn up and guilty she feels inside and how you can't wait for Liara DLC with deep, emotional content where you will be able to rekindle the romance. Heck, an entire post without even mentioning Liara once.

Wow. Image IPB

Very interesting. I'll be actually posting my poll results soon too, which look pretty similar, though your poll frankly puts mine to shame (that's what I get for using BioWare's poll system ).

Hmm surprised so many were in the same camp as me with what they consider to be the most important RPG element.  Guess I've been jaded by the no spoiler forum...

Take into account that the ESRB frowns on having sexually explicit material on their game covers.

I would like if it were Aria. Her part is one of the few things in ME 2 I truly like. And somehow I think she would care about Liara, does anyone disagree?

That said, there's no sign whatsoever that it could be her. If there's anything, then it's the bartender from Illium saying she had a "pure blood" daughter, but "it didn't work". That could be BioWare setting her up for the role, but actually I doubt they plan to ever solve the mystery. Probably they haven't even given it any thought yet. I mean, it's not like they invested much effort into Liara or anything.
