Can we use the new Awakening specializations in Origins?

Ah. No, sorry the Awakenings content (spells, items, NPCs, etc) do not transfer to Dragon Age: Origins.

They still follow the Origins example of "unlock once and for all", right?

well no, thats what the other guy basicly asked.
none of the awakening stuff goes to origins

No, he's asking if, after you unlock them once, they're still unlocked every time you replay Awakening

According to that there is 60 new Specialization's 50 new spells, 500 new items, 2 new tier's, Ability to craft your own Runes and equip them, new characters, and of course some new enemy's to face :), im pretty pumped myself, cant wait to get it.

No. There is not 60 new specializations.

There ought to be.

I checked with the source of my info and he said there shouldn't be any issues with him being public about it. It was Desslock (of PC Gamer, etc., fame) and he was giving his impressions of his playthrough of Awakening here (link goes to page where his comments start):

Not to mention the ridiculous amount of updates you have for your character who is unofficialy capped off at level 35.

Oh cool we get a third specialization point. So my no-Combat-Training talky-talky bard/ranger city elf rogue can take Shadow and become even more non-confrontational, and my angry-but-protective bigass-sword berserker/champion human noble warrior can take Guardian and tank up and stuff.

Also TEMPLAR/REAVER/SPIRIT WARRIOR MAGICAL KNIGHT HERE I COME

Is there a specific reason for that?

It's because Awakenings is not really an expansion, as it doesn't expand the core game itself. It's Dragon Age: origins 1.5

Sort of an epilogue, you pick up where you left and move onwards in the timeline, so you cannot go back to do Origins things. Awakenings happens after origins finishes.

No! He totally knows this guy who dated a friend who sent him a link to this review, but he deleted his e-mail and the dated friend is at work right now and the guy he knows has a bad case of the flu so it's best not to bother them.

I think I know that guy too..

The specific reason they gave,is DA:A takes place after the ending of Orgins.

Probabally to prevent massive imbalance in whats avaliable.

Fair enough, Thanks! The way I see it then, that the DAO exec. will have to be updated than.? Which means DAO is not compatible with DAO Awakening. Right?

So we won't get suitable replacements for DLC gear till a few hours into the game? Bioware should have told us this. I'll be sure to swap my Blood Dragon Armor with Oghren's Juggernaut set before uploading the save. Thanks.

Yes, but that really doesn't make sense unless its a technical/funding issue. In a similar RPG in NWN2 when MoTB came out, you could continue your character in the expansion but you could also go back to NWN2 and start out with one of the new classes like spirit shaman. That would have been cool if we could as it would add to replayability of orgins greatly! Ah well Posted Image

(and yes I know NWN2 wasn't a Bioware game I was just giving an example)

Yep how I understand it is..you can go forward from Origins to Awakening...but you can't go backwards.

Same for the Orlesian GW, you can play in Awakening, but you can't go back to Origins with the Orlesian GW.

So instead of being an expanion, Awakening is actually like one of Neverwinter Night's premium modules. :crying:

It's not a rule but the best expansions usually integrate with the original game, sad to see so many examples of this not being the case. Well, maybe modders can take care of this issue at least.

Bioguy #1: "So great. We have a new Product Identity that rocks, fans love our way of making games and we sold millions of DA:O copies. What now?"

Not so smart Bioguy #2: "Let's screw it over with an expansion that is not an expansion, unlike the other zillion of game expansions we've done in the past."

Bioguy #1: "Think you're smart? We had been planning what you suggest for *years* during the DA development cycle! It's exactly what we're doing next!"

While we're doing impressions let me throw one out *obviously not directed at you*

Crazyfan #1- Whhaaaa Leliana isn't in the game!

Crazyfan #2- What my DLC content doesn't transfer!? Screw the 500 new high tier items! I want my 7 items! This expansion will suck. Their half a**'in it.

Crazyfan #1- Your right, it isn't catored to my every whim. It will suck.

Crazyfan #2- I rate it a 2/10, despite never played it

Crazyfan #1- I rate it a -1/10, those bioware guys are horrible horrible people who want to screw us over. F*** them, F*** the man. What d-bags.

*A little under a month later... if it gets good reviews*

Crazyfan #1- Oh whats that? It's getting good reviews and fans like it? Hmmm, I thought bioware made s***y games and just screwed over fans

Crazyfan #2- I told you it was gonna rok! Wait, Anders isn't coming back for DA2!? I HATE BIOWARE!

Probably.

I preordered Awakening and will buy some other DLCs probably. I've been following DA since before NWN2 was announced. I advocated the public toolset a lot of times.

How should I judge the idea of publishing an expansion without retrofitting the content of the original game? Retrofitting it's the standard for PC CRPGs, and it has been the standard for Bioware PC CRPGs in the past, afaik.

Crazyfans opinions like the ones you describe are normal and entail no consequences.

Planned and well thought choices like the one made with Awakening by EA/Bioware change the market.

Spot on Wishpig.

I'll add to this:

Crazyfan #3: Well, I'm just going to cancel my preorder immediately, considering all these terrible things about the expansion that I have speculated!

Normalfan#1: Shut up, you whine worse than Alistair.
