Some characters are also easier to write out then others. Samara continue with her Justicar duty, Thane being to ill to fight, Jack goes mental etc. Kasumi and Zaeed are DLC so there is a high possibility those are sidelined.

They could just keep everyone on the team. If they survive they are there, If they didn't they are not. If you have a more story driven plot in ME3 it doesn't really have to matter who you bring on your team. They wont be able to have an integrate part of the plot though, since they can be dead.

*Nods* You make a good point about the LIs, which makes me hopeful for Kai-Kai's return.  Yeah, it would be possible to have everyone on the team but would they?  That's 5 characters from ME1 plus 8 more from ME2.  10 if you count the ones from DLC.  I think animating and recording dialogue for 13-15 potential squadmates could get real ugly real fast in terms of the time and resources it would take.  I predict some will not be squadmates.  The only question is who.

They're also not going to be screwing around with the GUI or the combat this time. Leaves a lot more time for characters and story.

That was not my point.  My point is that characters like Samara, Grunt, Legion, and possibly even Mordin who are not potential LIs stand a fairly good chance of being cameoed.  I would be shocked as anything if Zaeed and Kasumi returned as recruitable unless it was through another DLC.

Oh, I agree, I wasn't saying you were speculating about Kaidan, that's just my immature reaction whenever talk about ME3 squadmates comes up.

I really hope for that actually.  Since the ME games haven't focused on squad interaction, I can see how it wouldn't really matter who was there or not.. you get their dialogue or not depending on what Shepard does, so... *shrugs*  Did that make sense?

If we take that as possible then we get:

Zaeed, Kasumi, Samara, Legion, Grunt, Mordin all either gone, cameo'd, or NPC'ed.

That leaves Ash/Kaidan, Liara, Miranda, Jacob, Thane, Garrus, Jack, and Tali.  Which is eight squad members, which would be great plenty, except BW seems to want new characters/recruitment for new players, plus the possible varying levels of dead for six of the eight options.  And thus we get to my nervousness, about how the heck they plan to do justice to that many characters, especially since I didn't think they did justice to the ones they've got already.

Yea this is what worries me too. How will they do justice to all the characters if they decide to keep all. On a positive side. Since someone of Kaidan or Ashley is sure to survive they can put resources into those characters. They could even afford to make them more personal. Like not having the exact same dialogue which many felt was cheap. Some could argue that half of the people would miss out on tons of dialogue if they didn't have x virmire survivor but it wouldn't be much more different then all the romance contect you miss out playing male or female. It could in the same sense be seen as wasted resources.

@Joisan - wouldn't surprise me if Kasumi returned. there seems to be a bit of support surfacing for her and I noticed in some of the threads people were asking about whether she was going to be a LI *facepalm*, but that could just be because she's new & shiny, lol

When I close my eyes I can actually see that scenario... 
And yeah, I think we have plenty of things to amuse them - even if they are not explicit Kaidan fans. All in all I think we are a very civil and friendly group - always good for a laugh. They have to notice us... one way or another.

LOL, people have mentioned the Rachel/Ross relationship in regards to Kaidan and Shepard many times (THEY WERE ON A BREAK!!!), so I think that's a fitting comparison.  I don't know how Thane fans might feel about Leo DiCaprio, he's not quite as badass as Thane, but I'm not a Leo fan...

I was about to say - I think it fits ... besides Titanic. I am a passionate hater of that movie and not a big fan of Leo. I liked Thane on the other hand - and those two are like fire and water.

Is that Ross and Rachel from Friends that you're comparing to Shenko?  (Only watched a very few episodes of that show; sorry)  I don't know much about their romance, but I do remember a discussion not too long ago about how it took them 10 years to end up together, so in that way it's very fitting.

And I would say the Garrus one is very honest, which I admit I wasn't expecting.  Hehe I notice Jacob is conspicuously absent.  Is there a TV show romance bad enough for him?

I think a more fitting romance for Thane/Shep would be Denny/Izzy from Greys anatomy. Not as grand maybe, but tragic non the less.

And Denny is quite the badass in Watchmen :x

Ooh, very good taste, I approve!!!  That's one of my favorite novels and the best adaptation ever...I wouldn't have thought of Elizabeth/Darcy for Shepard and Kaidan's relationship in the first game, but I guess they're at that point of misunderstandings and rumours getting between them now, huh?  I hope Bioware can do them justice in the last game...
