To be perfectly honest, if my Shep is going to be dumped I'd much rather it be for Chakwas than say...Chloe or one of the more hawt to trot sorts.

I've no doubt Chakwas would be more than willing.

Nope, she was engaged and it was long AFTER they'd made contact with the alpha quadrant and she'd discovered her fiancee had moved on that he was all up on Seven.  Before he was all like, 'Oh Kathryn I was such an angry man but you saved my life...."

He didn't get to do enough really, and Robert Beltran made sure to constantly complain about this and other aspects of the show.
And you know what? He was absolutely 100% right. There are precisely two times that I remember that he ever got to play his role properly and argue with Janeway about her decisions, and he SHINED in those moments.
