Morning all :)

About the human crew post. First time I ever played ME1, I was like "I'm going to kick everybody's butt with a human squad, just to show them what we can do". Then I ran into Garrus and the moment he introduced himself to Shepard I was doomed. So my human squad was down to 2 and the turian with the lovely voice quickly became my Shep's buddy.
To quote James Earl Jones on Sean Connery's AFI award thing "it's the voice."
(yes I spend too much time on youtube *giggles*)

Mornin', Jho. I'm about to head to bed, myself.

Funny, my first play through on ME1 I had Kaidan  & Ash until Garrus showed, then Garrus got kicked when Wrex showed. Wrex reminded me too much of Candy from KOTOR and I missed leading my boys around, le sigh.

It's all that stress and grief of losing Shep that aged him... but aged well.  I do miss his stubble though.

He aged very well indeed. Maybe he had a quick shave before Shepard arrived *chuckles* He could be an important man now and thus pay extra attention to his looks :P Oh who am I kidding, I miss his stubble too.

Wrex never did much for me, not until I saw his enthusiasm in ME2 actually lol

Anyway sweet dreams :)

Afternoon Jho - hope you had a better nights sleep.

I never really worried about whether they were human or alien I just went with who I liked. Have to say I didn't care for any of the asari's in ME1 though so tend to have a bit of a biased view towards them. Garrus's voice drew me in straight away, so did Lorik Quinns.

@Jaer - yeah Carth & Candy were pretty much my boys in Kotor as well. Kaidan & Garrus were my boys in ME though and hopefully I will get to go back to that squad makeup in ME3.

See, now I'm at home and I can freely appreciate Kaidan booty.  YAY!  :wizard:

Alistair = gay ( I prefer Teyrn Loghain - amazing ruler )

Kaidan = again gay ( I prefer Ashley - Terra firma alliance soldier )

and the worst of all !!!! Knights of old Republic (my god!!!) Carth Onasi rofl  ( just execute him !!! lol )

Hiya Sesh, yeah caught up on some sleep, which is good, less cranky now ;)

Asari, not my cup of tea. Turians, love them. Just not in a romantic way....ever

It's funny how I tend to pick a LI plus whomever appeals to me the most as a friend, for my squad. Even when having multiple choices LI wise, I only ever pick 1 for my squad. Well unless that LI is Anomen and the other LI is modded in and I want to see some fireworks.
Sadly though a lot of BG2 mods have little respect for the original LI and seem to best him on all fronts.

The negative side of modding I suppose. Though I bet some would love to create alternative hairstyles for Kaidan :P

How I choose squad for games really varies depending on game/squad amount/ and which play through it is. I tend to always use my LI as much as possible just to get as much content from him and because i like going through the game together from a rp point of view. The other character/-s is choosen depending on different reasons. It could be chosen from a combat synergy point of view, allignment pow, or because they are connected to different areas of the game. Sometimes it's fun to create theme groups just for the fun of it (like trying to go through DAO with only warriors or rogues in the group). I have a tendency to favorise different chars though and use them in several(or in some cases all) play throughs of the game. I always used Kaidan as my first squad mate for ME1 even though it hampers me trying to get the 75% achievment.

Oh gosh achievements, that's most likely the only silly reason I have to mix up teams on each playthrough just to get the achievement for their character. Only started doing that on like my 7th playthrough of ME1 though. And it took a long time since it's always Kaidan+random achievement character.
Despite knowing his content and all, I never leave him on the Normandy.

ME2 is a different ballgame, only completely went through it once so far. And again Garrus was on the squad and ...um...let's see....Mordin a few times or Thane. Haven't found that 'nr1 squad' yet in ME2. Maybe I should pick Miranda, but my Shepard still has issues with the Cerberus folk :P

Yea i'm not as emotionally attached to my team in ME2 as in ME1 so I have mostly chosen squad mates out from combat pow. Because of this I used Miranda in all my three playthroughs, just because her skills are really useful. This despite I dislike her quite a lot because of her personality ( throwing "i'm perfect" in your face at every possibility makes me go 'just keep your mouth shut and do your job, k?'). She do soften up a bit towards the end though. Two alpha females in battle are asking for trouble :P In my first playthrough I used Garrus because he was my buddy in ME1. My second I used Grunt just because he's more buffed then the other and don't die as easily. In my current playthough i'm using Kasumi and she rocks, both combat wise and personality wise. She's my new favorite.

Still haven't bought the Kasumi DLC but yeah I've read she's great. Grunt I love, the "I AM KROGAN!" he yells all the freaking time gets on my nerves though ;)

I too wasn't emotionally attached to the team in ME2 and I'm not sure what the reason is because there are some wonderfully written characters in there. Maybe it's the lack of Kaidan or my searching for him all the time in ME2 that distracted me though. Not sure, but after the release of ME1 I was still playing it months after, again and again. Not doing it with ME2 has a reason, I'm sure, just don't know what it is.

Then again, by the time I'm done with my current playthrough of ME1 and importing that char into ME2, there will be tons of DLC available and ME2 will feel like a brand new game....right? :P

In ME1 it killed me to swap Garrus out for each squad member to get the achievements, but I never swap Kaidan out, lol.  I have played that damn game so many times.

In ME2 I'm a little bit more flexible depending on the mission.  I usually end up taking Miranda & Thane to the final battle though.  I actually  don't mind Miranda and find her better than Jack in terms of survival.  I haven't found the perfect squad yet, but my Shep teamed with Grunt & Thane are awesome against the thresher maw, lol

I got the Kasumi dlc today because eldest teen wanted to play it although I can't be bothered.  I'm actually feeling a bit bored with ME2 now and not that interested in playing it again at the moment, I think its the thought of all that scanning, lol

Scanning...the perfect way to doze off if you have trouble sleeping. Should keep that in mind next time I can't sleep. Fire up ME2, scan a few planets and head for bed -_-

I think one part about not being as emotionally attached to the Me2 squad is that there are just so many of them fighting over your attention. This is somewhat outweighted by the fact that they have personal quests that makes you understand them better. I think the character driven plot creates a very forced feeling towards your squad though. You really go out of your way to gather all these people and to get them loyal to you. It doesn't feel like a natural process where you through the main (story driven) plot get to understand your squad and see them in a different light. Part of the plot is to get your squad loyal for the suicide mission or else you die. It creates a very artifical feeling and somewhat false feeling about my squad.

And I agree about the characters being well written. I don't see it as a problem with me not liking Miranda or being anoyed about Jacks behaviour in a professional environment. It puts depth to the world when you have characters with less desirable traits. I like this in the same way as I like Kaidan and Ash standing up for their moral beliefs

I think it would have helped if you weren't given the files by TIM about who to recruit and where. If you were just to bump into them instead as you explore and do missions it would feel less forced. Like with other Bioware games. Make it as much a mission to actually search for the best of the best as it is to gain their loyalty.
Right now we have a list, we know where they are and technically we don't have any option as to recruit them or not.
It's like a chore....recruit the list, make list loyal, epic endbattle, done. Although that's not doing the game much credit.

I like it when characters are part of the story and as you follow that story you find them and interact with them before recruiting if you want. Maybe I didn't want to pick up Jack or Zaeed, maybe I would want Tali to stay with her people. But it's never a choice.

Oh just rambling on my part, but yeah, it feels forced ;)

Yea it's a very shoehorned feeling. I guess it fit well with TIM as a character. He is in total control of the situation. From who to recruit to what events that will take place, where he manipulates every part possible for his own ends. Maybe it's the feeling that you as a character aren't in command of the game and what will happen and how it unfolds, TIM is. In ME1 you pretty much get free hands to search for Saren, which creates the feeling that you as a character are driving the plot forward.

I feel i'm very influenced about the topics about plot that's been discussed on the forum. A bit of topic maybe :P

Well I don't like being forced in my games, DA proved that first. But...there is one exception to the rule...they can force Kaidan onto the Normandy in ME3 and I won't utter a single complaint :innocent:
