A lot of women liked Alistair it seems, but I really hope they don't go the tragedy route with any LI, or that stupid paragon/renegading thing that was in DA where Alistair would break up with the Warden if you didn't make a certain choice in a conversation no one had an idea would matter so much. I thought that could have been handled much better.
Yeah, it definitely came out of left field for people who didn't get what was going on. Edit: And by 'get what was going on' I mean, came into the game completely unspoiled and not knowing how different choices play out later on. My first character was a city elf rogue who made Anora queen and then (by the power of mods) sacrificed herself, leaving Alistair heartbroken. I also have a Cousland who is Alistair's queen and reluctantly took Morrigan's bargain. Am working on a human mage who will have her heart broken when Alistair sacrifices himself.

@Batteries I tend to think that because this is a trilogy, we deserve at least the possibility of happy endings to our romances. In DA it's more "excusable" because it was all in one single game. But ME is a trilogy, if say Star Wars had the heroes die at the end, people would be pretty disappointed. I'd be fine with the ability for tragic endings, but only as an ability rather than having tragedy forced upon us. We shouldn't have to bust out a walkthrough like DA had many people, to get a satisfactory ending.
Isn't DAO 2 being released next year?
Awakenings certainly qualifies as the middle chapter with craptasic cameos.

Pretty much sums up what I think too. I just want options, not a definite ending. ME3 is so wide open with so many different variables. I'm already 85% sure that one of the endings will be where you ultimately and utterly just fail and the Reapers eat cake and cheese while blowing the universe up.

We never got the impression AFAIK that Dragon Age would be a trilogy. I mean the ending of the game is basically a slideshow of what happened years afterwards, it felt like that particular's story was at an end. I think DA is still different because the tragedy happened within the same game where the romance developed in the first place. If you play a certain way, you got something of a conclusion to the romance - maybe you married Alistair, maybe you went traveling with Leliana, etc. With Morrigan of course you get the sense that the relationship is over completely, you don't really need to worry about what's going to be happening in the next game because she seems to be gone for good, either disappointed that you didn't give her a demon baby or instead waiting for her demon baby to spawn and like take over the world or something. With ME we're given all the indication that the romances will develop further.Shenzi wrote...

I'll go with this. I'm pretty sure Bioware has said in the past that they want to "blow things wide open" with ME3 because they don't have to worry about continuity into a sequel. So there is a good chance that we will get plenty of options. I'll agree with the possibility for a total fail ending as well as a total victory ending and a third possibility (or range of possibilities) that are more mixed and bittersweet.

I hope not. I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of NPC pairings but it would seem a bit contrived if everyone ended up with someone.

I'm not really sure how marriage wouldn't. Not that I think all of the romances would benefit from having a wedding. I'm not even sure if Asari or Turians have marraige.Batteries wrote...

My thoughts exactly. Though Becca is right; I wouldn't want a forced Whedonesque ending either. Having the option there for those that want their angst is one thing, but honestly.
On a related note, I'm thinking of trying deliberately to get someone killed in my playthrough with my colonist/war hero who is going to be my second canonShep, Joanna. Now to decide who... hmm...

Someone that means a lot to Shepard, like Garrus.
