About the last name thing: I find it really immersion breaking to read Shep's first name in fics (I really dislike it to be honest, also because, I'll admit, I just don't like some of the names people have picked for their Shepards/Wardens/etc.). I avoided giving out Twitter Shepard's name for as long as possible, until I got a formspring question asking what it was.
As far as Shep and Kaidan talking to each other, I'm a huge fan of them continuing to use Shepard and Alenko/sometimes Kaidan. It's in line with the game, even after Ilos, and it just fits for me. It's the Mulder and Scully appeal.
*Sigh* Well apparently I'm in the minority here. I don't mind reading someone else's Shepard's name in a fic as long as it isn't something completely strange, which I have yet to see. And it just seems too impersonal for them to continue to use Shepard and Alenko.
I'll admit that it's much more distracting to me when there's a strange name or they have the name in every durned paragraph.
Almalexia Shepard. Oyas
heh..tried saying that name out loud and my tongue did NOT like it...hahaha Luckily the bf is watching Jeff Dunham so he thinks I'm laughing at the tv instead of me being silly
As for seeing Shep's first name in stories..don't really mind, although in the end I think I prefer Shepard/Alenko/Kaidan. But that's only if I have to choose, otherwise yeah as long as the name is somewhat normal I don't mind.

Well Jo I agree with you, I think it is funny that once they were close she would use his first name but he would use her last. Besides wasn't it on this threat maybe 400 pages ago everyone was saying I wish Kaidan could call us by our first names?
When I read the fics I realize that each Shepard is different and I enjoy the stories for their differences, including the names. Since my Shepard is a complete paragon I really enjoy the stories where Shepard is not exactly the same as mine is. I think it brings adventure to the fold. I don't have my Shepard do anything I wouldn't do, but that is my game and it's what makes each of out games and thus us unique.
I look at it this way - these are just parallel worlds and this is the Shepard in this world - hence different name.

You have got to be kidding me! Somebody likes Morrowind a little too much.
I guess the way I think of it is this: We know that after a certain point, Shepard starts to refer to Kaidan by first name in their personal conversations. Why shouldn't he be able to recriprocate, except for the fact that it would be impossible to implement such a feature in a fully-voiced game? And for me, I don't set out to write a fic about some generic femShep romancing Kaidan. I write about my Shepard, Mia, who has a personality and history that I've created for her far beyond the scope of what the game shows. And I guess if someone else decides they don't like that and don't want to read my fic because of it, that's their prerogative and their loss (IMO). My apologies if that last bit sounded a bit defensive... I suppose I took the comment as a bit of a knock on my stories.

But I also think the first names are interesting to read, gets me stared on analyzing... though I suck at that.
Btw, Jo, new link is away!

Ohh, yes, if it's "Kaidan" and "Shepssfirstname" every sentence! Grrr. How often do you use people's first name while you're talking to them anyway? Definitely not every other sentence.
I'd lke to hear Kaidan use my FemShep's first name in game, if that were possible (which of course it's not), but otherwise in fic just Shepard or Shep has my preference. Sometimes the first name is used very well, though, when it's well done, it makes it even more intimate when Kaidan does use her first name. In my world, "Shepard" has pretty much become like Kaidan's pet name for Shep.
ETA: Just so we're clear, I've never NOT read a fic because Shepard had a first name that was being used (agree with Jo that would be a really ridiculous reason to pass up Shenko goodness!), and I didn't intend to offend anyone who writes their Shepard's first name into their stories!

But I am addicted to Mass Effect and have not played any other game (well except for Star Trek Online on Sundays because I have to play with my brother, and you should realize how sad that is because I am quite a bit over 35 years old) for months

I didn't mean it that way; I apologize. What I said wasn't very clear.
I was refferring to some fics where Shepard's name is like it's out of a fantasy realm; other times, the name is mentioned in almost every single sentence. Those are the ones that throw me off a lot.

Don't worry about it; I realized it probably wasn't meant that way but I still couldn't help having a little bit of that sort of reaction. I agree about extremely odd names for Shepard... Almalexia Shepard? Do. Not. Want!

Though I appreciate everyone telling me on here that they liked the chapters, I'd rather get it in a review. Rereading eviews really help with writer's block.
I loved this chapter
Working on a review now, my writing skills tend be along the same lines of Faith's at times

Thanks
Frustrating indeed, I remember wanting to reply so bad. Later in the game, I checked Shepard's mail right before going through the relay, thinking there would be some words of comfort from kaidan and I got all annoyed there was nothing.....but then I realised Shepard gave him the silent treatment after Horizon so why would he send another mail? ...bah. I really wanna slap Shepard silly sometimes in ME2...well a lot actually.
