Just was curious how does everyone actually communicated in the ME universe, is there a universal translator like in Star Trek?

Morning, Shenzi!

I'd assume the Omni-Tool does the job of translating.

@Shenzi: I very vaguely recall something in the codex about a translator program, but I cannot for the life of me find it this morning.

I liked him, his main crime was being motivated by passion. And hell yeah, to killing Howe (though I really like Nathan in Awakenings :D) His dad was clearly the black sheep there.

The story itself wasn't bad but it was a completely detached Chapter - had very little to do with Origins. And if not that, I would have liked to see the new skills and abilities available for new games of Original. But oh well...
Oh and if there had been any romance options in Awakenings, poor Nate wouldn't get  break, lol.

@Scarlet: Many thanks for taking the time review!! Helps a lot!:wizard:

As for Joker - yeah, I agree with the majority. I love Joker but he's my Shepard's best buddy, having to watch out not to hurt him emotionally as well would really suck. Nuh, he's my best friend and I wish him a romance - just not with my FemShep.

Oddly enough... I could see Garrus breaking the buddy barrier before Joker.  I'm not entirely sure why, though, yet.  Perhaps it's because Joker's so fragile?

I totally feel that Shepard should have more interaction with Joker, he is a fairly big character and wonderfully portrayed by Seth Green. He provides a lot of comic relief to a sometimes heavy plot!

I could see Joker breaking the buddy barrier, actually, I would just rather he didn't. Cause, friendship track more fun, for me, and I don't want more Joker snark in the next game, not less.

That he does, but because it's Seth Green basically means we won't get that much more dialogue...bet the guy isn't cheap.

While all the stars certainly draw attention, good press and maybe even sell extra games, it also means DLC and whatnot for those star characters will be limited since it's expensive to get a few VO lines. Or at least I think that's how it works ;) One would think enough cash is being made to cover it though.

I would love extra lines for Kaidan but I'm just asking for simple text in a mail because getting extra VO content from Sbarge is not likely to happen I think. Text messages should be easy ...and cheap ;)

Ah, buuuuuut......... Given that they are working in earnest on 3 now, DLC dialogue could easily be factored into the VO schedule, no? Seth could easily do DLC dialogue whilst recording Joker's ME3 dialogue, same goes for Sbarge *wiggles eyebrows at BioWare*

I would hope so...but it still costs money. Gosh, I would fork out extra money to just to pay for Sbarge so we can get some nice Kaidan content. And maybe we will, they did say they were going to do some big DLCs to get ready for ME3 right....:wizard::wizard::wizard:

The contracts are likely for duration or set number of games/expansions/DLCs, not number of lines or something.

I'm not sure if Seth Green is really terribly expensive for them. I say this given the fact that Seth Green is quite the gamer geek. I'm sure he gets a hefty premium, but given his penchant for loving to do voices (Family Guy and Robot Chicken) and his love for space opears (Star Wars), I think he was probably thrilled to be part of the franchise and whatnot without costing BW an arm and a leg.

@Jho, I so would pay for extra dialogue from Kaidan, I think we all would. Whip round? :P

I think they could have given Joker a lot more conversational dialogue. Stand right behind him without talking to thim, and the guy talks on and on and on and on, so it's not like they were lacking in Seth Green goodness.

You'll get a codex entry about translations when you get Bringing Down the Sky. They use machine translation, and the devices for it can be as varied as PDAs, jewelry, or subdermal implants. Also says it's near real-time translation as well.

I remember watching a Farscape episode with a commentary track where the actors mentioned how you probably got the translation effect if you watched the series in another language because the language would not match the movement of their lips. That must take some getting used to.

Learning one language must be a **** if you live in such a multi-cultural environment as the Citadel. I bet there is one wicked pidgin language that's common among all the poorer folk of the station. Oh wait, that codex entry says there's a trade language most people learn. Well, that's no fun at all.
