OMG! MUST ANSWER!
Well, they're pretty much opposites, but not opposite enough that they couldn't click. Faith tends to like conflict and drama; she also likes attention. She'll follow the rules if it gets her something and is a stern believer in getting the job done at all costs. Above all else, she's got a hard edge to her from being an orphan on earth. She doesn't trust easily and is quick to anger.
In this regard, Kaidan is able to calm her down considerably. His calm nature has rubbed off on her somewhat; he's made her able to let go of quite a bit of her anger, especially her resentment toward those who have wronged her in the past. Shepard's changed him a little as well. Kaidan doesn't trust the Council anymore and sees them as a possible hindrance to the safety and well-being of the galactic citizens. He's also been able to loosen up a bit around Shepard.
They're the perfect renegade non-xenophobic couple

I love renegade non-xenophobic Shepard/Kaidan. (Have I mentioned that Ella totally renegades Kaidan, even though she's pretty paragon, just cause she hates politicians that much? I wish paragon characters could intimidate, since that would be so much more in character for her. Angry scary, but always to save people. From themselves if necessary.

I know! The freaking Council is useless!
Blind, useless fools... sitting on the top of their tower playing the fiddle while the city burns.

well, the Council didn't want to listen to Garrus when he attempted to investigate Saren either, so it's not just humans. It's anyone who's trying to tell them they need to change the way they do things.

Hey everyone. Just popping in with a quick question (or series of related questions).
How similar is Kaidan to your Shepard? In what respects are they different? And what effects do you think they have on each other?

I'm actually exploring this somewhat in my current fic.
The very short version is that they are extremely similar, and it's the very forced versions of ME2 that have made her adapt. I don't really want to say much more though because I intend to use alot of it in my story.

My poor Shepard thought that if she saved the Council, they'd listen to her.

Mine thought the same too, although she's having serious reservations about that decision now. I suppose dying and coming back after 2 years seemingly with Cerberus didn't do much to help her cause in their eyes.fortunesque wrote...

if you let the council die, turians in ME2 hate humans
if you let them live in ME2 they love humans

I've got thirty pages of story to edit and another three chapters to write at least before I can get to the Kaidan part. At some point I'd like to play the game, too. <_<
