He couldn’t help himself he put his arms 107 7 37 around her to comfort her – her crying was breaking his heart
as you can see I tried to update a unit's location in the middle of the sentence. silly me.
and just so we stay on topic / which of course is Kaidan:

Thank you Ki, Sia and Flaky for your patience with me as usual
Feedback on the story is always appreciated.
I am out of here for an hour or so, just found out that today's the first day for pickup at the organic farm I belong too, hopefully the forums will be behaving better once I get back.

I hope they get that dlc announcement out of the way so we can all be like, "that figures" rather than "omg could it be Kaikais?"

LoL... j/k. I am not really surprised... men are man (yes I am generalizing). It gets bad when he tries to rub it in.

Nah, I told him he should give Ashley a chance. He usually goes for Liara. Which meant he always saved Kaidan before at my request. I figured one of us should give poor Ash a chance and I can't Virmire Kaidan. Ever.

My seven year old has been playing Mass Effect on and off lately, and we were talking about Ashley. I think because he watches me play, he assumes that Ash *has* to die, and that's a part of the story. I don't know if he'd be mad at me if I told him I make that choice. He's totally a Tali fan, though, he might not care about Ash at all.

I honestly don't know. I didn't ask. However, he agrees with me that the nuke is the more tactically sound choice to save, so you stick the person you want to rescue there. So... Kaidan probably went with the salarians.

I'm a stickler, too. I can't even read some fic because the grammar is so bad that the story can't hold my attention. I don't care about grammar in dialogue, though. People speak far more casually and a dangling participle or a split infinitive is par for the course, not to mention slang and in-character language quirks. But awful grammar and spelling throughout a piece destroys its readability for me.TeenZombie wrote...
Haha, I've offered my beta services only once here, but I'm a little relieved they didn't take me up on it. I was an english tutor in college and do a lot of proofreading and grammar correction in my job; I wouldn't want to be too critical of the nice people here. I am extremely picky about my own writing when it comes to grammar and style, so I don't want anyone else to be offended by my standards. If it's not just chatting on the internet, I'm the proverbial grammar police.
That said, I've been writing too fast to catch all of my own errors as I've published. (As a brief self-promotion, please note that Chapter 16 is now available for your perusal.) I have the whole thing compiled and have been working my way through the painfully embarrassing errors as I go. Once I've actually finished the story I'll be posting updated chapters without stupid typos and grammatical horrors, I hope. If anyone catched a particularly humiliating one I hope you'll let me know!

and back on topic :
re dlc - not holding my breath or getting my hopes up for it to even have a Kaidan cameo.
re fic - I laughed when I read what you guys where saying about grammer. My only excuse for lack of 'gramma' & punctuation is that I'm an Aussie, we're too lazy to worry about stuff like that, lol. Luckily my writing has stalled so my beta's get to have abreak and let their brains return to normal function after wading through one of my rough drafts.
re Virmire - I tried sending Kaidan with the Salarians once & rescued him, but it didn't feel right. In every other playthrough I've done Kaidan goes with shepard to set the nuke and thats the one she rescues. Can't bring myself to rescue Ash. I've tried to convince the teens that logically Kaidan is the one who should be rescued because he's more important to the Alliance but I don't think they're buying it, lol

I sent Kaidan with the Salarians on my last run, just to see how it went. I hated hearing him in danger and not being able to shoot whatever was threatening him.sesheta255 wrote...

And, I join the general consensus that it is probably the more valid tactical decision to reinforce whoever is at the bomb, cause you have to make sure it goes off. As I know the bomb goes off regardless, however, I usually rescue whoever is with the Salarians, so my poor dying squad mate gets the cut scene at the bomb. Make sure they get a particularly heroic send-off.
eta: And yes, that means I've Virmired Kaidan. Twice, even. It's sad, but he goes out with dignity. He's a good marine. And I like the chance to see Ashley give the Terra Firma folks after the lockdown a good what-for.

1. He's a powerful, stable L2- extremely rare
2. He's got tech skills along with his biotics
3. He's the only squadmate with medicine- this is a skill that alludes to the idea that he's had medical training
4. He's an officer, 4 ranks above Ashley.
5. He's worked with aliens before. This is crucial given the aliens on board the ship.
As much as I love Ash, she dies in every one of my games. The reasons above make me have to do it that way because it would feel irresponsible to do otherwise.

i always felt the ash/kaiden choice is one of the few truly morally grey choices in a game - ever. i think they're both awesome soldiers with reasons to save both. but with that said, i always felt you should go back and protect the nuke. plus that person was on *your* strike team - you have an obligation to them first.
plus, if i'm honest, i just can't stand to watch the person at the nuke die. send them with the salarians and you only have to see the explosion, not their last moments on earth - er - virmire.

I remember the first time I was faced with the Virmire choice and I literally stared at my screen like ?!?o.O?!? I'd never faced such a choice in a game before and I loved both the characters, but since Kaidan captured me from the start I had to choose him, it took minutes and tears to decide though.
I normally send him with the bomb (highest officer, biggest priority mission, Shepard picking him up...) but I'm gonig to send him with the salarians this time and save him there, probably be worse becasue I here that you see Ash with the bomb watching you fly off. Why couldn't they have nuked it from orbit!!!!!! It was the only way *sage nod*.

@Fort/Somebody: I didn't mean to disagree w/the logic for saving Kaidan, as I think it's all accurate. It still bothers me a bit though. *shrugs*
I understand. It's what makes the choice difficult, knowing that Shepard likely cares a lot for both of them and that Ash has a big family. We can insert "logical conclusions" into it all we want, but Shepard still has to make the choice to allow someone to die.
