Shepard first meeting Kaidan from an old fic I wrote, which I am planning to edit to the point where I can publish it without blushing:
Anderson was just pointing out the med bay and the mess hall when Joker’s voice came over the intercom.
“Captain, there’s a Spectre here to see you. A Turian by the name of Nihlus.”
The captain nodded, though there was no way Joker could have seen the gesture unless he happened to be watching the security cameras.
“Tell him I’ll be there in a moment. Make yourself comfortable, Commander; I shouldn’t be more than a minute or two. Nihlus will want to meet you.” Before I could ask why a Turian Spectre would want to meet me specifically, the door had already closed behind him. Taking the captain at his word when he’d said to make myself comfortable, I went to the kitchen and got myself a glass of water. As I turned around, I felt my shoulder contact someone else’s arm. My water and his coffee splashed all over the ground as the newcomer reached out a hand to steady himself against the wall. I heard a muttered, “Dammit!”
“Oh, I’m so sorry; I didn’t see you there. Let me clean that up!” I exclaimed apologetically as I walked over to grab a paper towel.“Did the coffee burn your skin?”
“Oh, no, just a static electricity discharge, ma’am,” he explained. I straightened from wiping up the spill and took a closer look at the man I had inadvertently bumped into. He was of medium height and muscular build, with dark hair and eyes and rugged features that made him practically the textbook picture of a soldier. His rank insignia proclaimed him to be a Staff Lieutenant, and from his comment about static electricity I gathered he was a biotic. My own implant was mostly concealed from view by the coal black hair that fell just below the base of my skull.
“You’re a biotic, Lieutenant?” I inquired curiously. They were still quite rare among humans; I had only met a handful of other human biotics in my lifetime.
“Yes, ma’am,” he admitted, a hint of wariness creeping into his expression. I smiled to set him at ease and began to focus the electric current in my body as I had been taught. Immediately the air around me glowed with a shimmering aura.
“Me too.” I let the flow fade; exercising my biotic talents was enough of a drain on my energy as it was without me using them to show off. Interest replaced wariness on his face, along with a certain amount of relief, which I guessed came from knowing he would not have to debunk any of the common myths people believed about biotics. The mess cleaned up, I returned to the mess hall with the lieutenant following behind. “I’m Mia Shepard, by the way,” I introduced myself as I sat down at a table, extending a hand. The lieutenant shook my hand and sat down across from me.
“My name is Kaidan Alenko, ma’am,” he answered.
