@leg - don't look at me, I'm totally innocent, lolPosted Image

@Lady - I'll read your fic eventually.  But I tend not to read fics while I'm in the middle of trying to write one.  It causes too much confusion in my already overly confused mindPosted Image
I'll add it to the list of fics I've got to catch up on when I finally stop trying to write.  I'm just trying to get the most out of my muse before she goes mia again, lol

Good Evening Everyone!!

The Night crew is back online!!

I find Kelly a little too childish for a councillor - the things she tells Shepard about the crew should be helpful but instead are trite or sexually oriented. Yeah I could take her or leave her!

Carry on!!

Good evening everyone from  me as well! *waves @ Night*

Kelly. Ugh don't even get me started about her lack of professionalism.  As a RL counselor all I can say is she wouldn't be licensed for long because her behavior does not meet professional standards.  She'd got issues around dual relationships, conflict of interest, violation of confidentiality....and those are just to start.  So no. My Shep can barely talk with Kelly and the first chance she has to dump her, believe me, she will!

i have to say i'm not really a fan of Kelly either, she improves slightly if you reject the idea of calling her Kelly. Maybe i'm just paranoid but she just seems way too nice to be genuine.

lol true enough, i wouldn't want to trust her with my personal problems. i would've much prefered my shep being able to discuss those sorts of things with chakwas. but after you share a drink with her, she becomes silent again.

It really annoyed me that my shep couldn't talk much with Chakwas, Garrus, or even Joker. I even tried hanging off getting drunk with Chakwas till after Horizon in the hopes I'd be able to get in some conversation about shep & Kaidan, but nup, it wasn't to be. Shep needs someone to confide in that knows them both. She's not telling TIM's little lapdog Kelly a damn thing, lol

sesh, totally understand what you mean. it just shows how much we had to be forced into working with cerberus.

anyway, to get back on topic, we'll get someone to confide in again in ME3

Ah, Collider, I already advertised here. But I appreciate the effort. ;)

I noticed we're talking about Gaider romances again. I'm curious, Kaidanites, of the three, which do you prefer (if any): Carth, Kaidan, or Alistair? Personally, I'm a big fan of Carth but I've done a lot of discussion with fans about him previously so I'm a little biased. Kaidan and Alistair, while great in my books, just don't have the mental history in my head that Carth does. I've spent a lot of time dissecting the paranoid pilot's psychology and grown to love him as a character (probably actually my favorite of the original KotOR's cast when it gets down to it).

But I'm curious what you all think.

I'm not sure I'd call myself a Kaidanite (he is one of my favorite characters though), but I really didn't like Carth all that much. Much prefer Kaidan and Alistair. I don't think Carth whines, but for me the trust issues just made me not looking forward to talking to him. Meanwhile I talked to Jolee every time immediately when the game told me that he may want to talk.

Its too hard to choose which one I like the best :

Kaidan - is probably the most 'grown-up' one. Its nice that it develops slowly and they become friends first. Kaidan genuinely cares for Shep and she knows he's got her back (in ME1 anyway, lol). Kaidan is probably the most solid of all 3 and doesn't have any unresolved issues.

Carth - I have a soft spot for Carth because he was my first gaming romance. Like Kaidan he has your back, but he has a lot of unresolved issues that have to be dealt with. although I do like the fact that you can argue with him and tease him.

Alistair - is very sweet and is a lot of fun but part of me does wonder whether it will last. He is very young and immature compared to the other 2 though. Having said that I really do like the progress ion of his romance, unless of course you aren't a human noble and you haven't hardened him, and you make him king, then he just breaks your heart. I must admit I do prefer 'hardened' Alistair (I really hate whoever came up with that term, lol)

So after all that I basically have no idea how I would rank them, it depends on my mood at the time and how much I am feeling my age, rofl

Good morning again all! *waves back at Star*

Kelly issues right I saved her on the collector's vessel but she could leave whenever she wants - no love lost there for my Shepard. I agree I would have liked to have more conversations with the ME 2 squad members. It would have been nice to get some input ref Horizon from Garrus since he was there. Just a hang in there would have been nice!

I just started DAO so far I would still pick Kaidan over Alistair though Alistair is funny & I like that - I like the way Kaidan is better.

I'd have to agree that Kaidan has the fewest troubles. Which people seem to forget, actually. There's this impression I've seen that he's dark and brooding and, while he's got a dark side (which he talks about) it doesnt' seem to be a huge part of his personality. I don't really see the cute but troubled persona in him.

As for Alistair, I actually thought that was clever writing on BioWare's part. Perhaps unhappy for romancers, but clever. It makes sense within the context.

The Alistair break up ending seemed to have been tacked on just for the whole dark fantasy thing. Kind of disappointed the Alistair endings took those routes.

I am lurking Just finished chapter 10 - Shepard is taking me in a different direction then I had planned- but I hope it won't be too long down this road. Starting 11 which will be drama & I hope will resolve this issue with Shepard.

I will be here... Looking toward to more Kaidan of course!

Too many people see Carth as a whinger which I disagree with and unfortunately they equate Kaidan with Carth because they are both voiced by Sbarge. I can understand Carth's trust issues and never had any problem with him in that regard. In Kaidan's case not only does his character have to battle the ill feelings towards Carth but because its mentioned that he suffers headaches, though not by him, they automatically give him the whinger tag, instead of actually looking at him as a character in his own right. If you level Kaidan up properly he is actually one of the best squad mates to have on your team, although I do admit that I am biased, lol.

To be fair, I haven't gotten it yet. Just one playthrough so far on DA:O (and now BioWare wants to release DA2 immediately!). But from what I've heard, it sounds like it makes sense in context and most of the people I know who've told me about it said they largely approved, even if it made for an "unhappy" ending.

Kaidan, Carth or Alistair?

Kaidan without a doubt. Why? Because he's a man, I don't have to handwalk him through stuff. He knows his job, he respects you, he watches your back both in the field as in private, he can listen as well as voice his opinion and unlike a lot believe, he DOES NOT whine.

Carth, yeah he whines but I still love the guy. He's tough and has a great sense of humor though his suspicions can get tiresome. Still he's just a little behind Alistair for me, maybe even on the same level.

Alistair, good looking, lovely voice, but ....too much handwalking. In Dragon Age, my Cousland warden needs someone to hold her hand on occassion you know. To tell her it will all be alright, that they are there for her, that they see she's tired and scared at times as well. But no, it's about Duncan whaaaaaaa.
Alistair is funny and cute and I had no problems comforting him at first but I grew sick of it later on in the game. He had potential, but I'm too old for a romance like that. It's sweet and adorable but I can only take so much of that ;)

So at times I actually prefered Zevran, despite the cheesy stuff at times, I enjoyed seeing Zevran's conflict, the growth in his character and the change in the relationship. He made my warden laugh, he didn't complicate things and he was loyal, both a friend and a lover, just what she needed.

In the end it's always Kaidan though, even though I have to say I would wish him to laugh more, but we hardly got the chance for that in ME1...and in ME2..well..heh..nothing much to laugh about in the 5 minutes we see him eh?

I did find that weird, as a male player. I mean, it makes sense as far as the story's concerned, but Alistair's a lot more experienced as a Warden then my character is. Shouldn't he have been leading us?

They were at one point going to have Alistair be a gruff, experienced and grizzled warden in his 30's, but they decided that that may not have made sense in the context that the player is going to be leading. After all - if this guy is so experienced, why wouldn't he be leading? I had the same issue with Carth in KOTOR pre-Dantooine actually, and I am glad that they addressed in DA:O.

Alistair is young, naive, and doesn't really like the idea of leading. He does mature by the end of the game, but that's the end of the game. He needs to be either not willing to lead or less able to lead in order for it to make sense that the Warden PC is leading (which is basically the point of these Bioware games - choice because your PC is the head of the pack).
