I think that the person who posted that comic, ALONG WITH THE COMMENTARY bashing Kaidan, is disrespecting his fans.  The commentary there, along with the commentary in the other comic, shows that they really don't think much of us.  The comic alone is cute.  The comic combined with the artist's commentary is rude, when linked in the Kaidan support thread.

I have been guilty of reacting to trollbait in the past, and this is another case, apparently.  Sorry for dredging up negativity, and sorry to anyone else who misinterpreted my meaning.

3. I bought it when ME2 came out and I heard that you could import your character.
4. I renegaded Kaidan once. It was awful and it turned every human in the game into racist bastards.
5. On the conclusive end of the spectrum, but not locked into a particular lifestyle.

9. The usual answer: he's a decorated officer and a powerful biotic. She's a cannon-fodder foot soldier. While she's got a back story and a military skeleton in her family closet, she's a dime a dozen as far as replace-ability.

Kaidan's my favorite evar. He's very refreshing from the stereotypical macho videogame dude.

My brother told me that "the best game ever" was only $20 at Best Buy. I was skeptical because I hate shooters, and I'm not partial to scifi. But I'd played through everything in Fallout 3 (that took a bit of convincing for me to buy too), and I was ready to play something else.

I renegaded him. My main Shepard is a non-xenophobic renegade that believes the Council to be incompitent leaders.

Pistol. He's a mage/rogue class and has no business with a bunch of warrior class weapons.

He's an officer, stable L2 biotic, has technical and medical training, and has worked with aliens before. IMO, he's more suited to the mission and of greater value to the Alliance

He tells a story about his past and though he's moved on from what happened to him, it's still shaped the way he views life.

I disagree with his view on the Council, though I agree that aliens are individuals and that there's no room for xenophobia. The Council isn't willing to step up to the plate and they waffle on hard decisions. They've proven that they're not good at handling intense situations, and the people of the galaxy deserve a stronger, more decisive voice.

So far, yes, he is.  I miss the mutual banter of the Carth romance but the Kaidan romance is just so real.  I think I've said this before, but Carth seems like the type of romance you would really only see in a book or a game, while the Kaidan romance doesn't seem like it would feel too out of place if it were taken out of the Mass Effect universe and plopped down in your living room.  (or bedroom... )

Now that's an interesting question.  I had played the older Bioware games, but didn't really consider myself a Bioware fan.  Then some people I used to RP with on another forum kept talking about this thing called KotOR.  Fast forward to two summers ago, I was bored and looking for a new game to try.  So I went to the store looking for a game along the lines of the old X-Wing series, but failed to find anything.  Instead, I saw this package called "Star Wars: The Best of PC" that included KotOR.  Well, I figured this was my chance to see what the hype was all about, so I picked it up and it was love at first play.  I was intrigued that it was made by the same folks who brought us Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, but still didn't consider myself a fangirl.  Until in the months after I played KotOR, I heard people talking about Mass Effect.  For some people the association of Kaidan with Carth may be negative, but in my case, I went, "Holy hell, the same VA who did Carth is in this game?  And is romanceable again?  Do. Want."  So I bought ME1 6 months later and the rest is history.  It was ME1 that made me finally cross the line into Bioware fangirlism.

As for assault rifles vs. pistols on Kaidan, I realize why from a gameplay perspective it may make sense not to give every class access to every weapon, but realistically I would think every Alliance marine would be expected to have a certain level of proficiency with an assault rifle, so I wouldn't mind Kaidan having AR proficiency in ME3. I gave my adept, Mia, AR proficiency in both ME1 and ME2 for this same reason.

Hydra or duelist. sadly, both tend to be low in armor and shielding. not liberator (yellow) or phoenix (pink - geh) he also looks good in the red assasin, but he's usually in colossus by the end of the game for me because it's the best for armor.

yes. he really is.

3. How did you first get into ME1?
SexBox Scandal! no, really. a friend told me about the foxs new "scandal." i looked it up, laughed my head off and then said, "oh, wait, that's bioware? didn't they do nwn? that looks like fun." and i've been playing it off and on ever since.

4. Did you paragon or renegade Kaidan? Or left him as is?
isn't he sort of paragon to start?  i like him as a paragon. i like nice guys. they're the best.

5. What is your preferred romance conclusion for Kaidan in ME3? Ambiguous? Conclusive?
both alive and together and NO demon-babies or major angsty stuff. we did that on virmire. i *would* love to see some romantic tension/trying to stay away from shep only to get back together with her at first though. that could be fun.

6. How do you think Kaidan would get along with the squad mates in ME2?
he's a nice guy - i think he'd get along with almost all of them. not sure what he'd say about it if you cheated. he better not stare at miranda's rack like all the other guys though, or shep's going to have to take him to task for that - in her quarters, of course.

7. Assuming there is (hopefully) banter in ME3, who would you most like to see Kaidan bantering with?
mordin.

usually pistol. i play adept, so we're all about precision striking on my team (garrus is our wing man)

same as usual: ranking officer, biotic, medic, tech expert went with the bomb which was *my* squad and i have a responsibility to my squad first. my shep is always damn glad all that'st rue though, beause she realized she'd save him no matter what and that scares her a little.

i did. but...i don't know. jump zero, perhaps? that's sounds unhappy. maybe because bioware figures he's the one who got sacrificed for the canon shep?

my shep is standoffish to aliens at first, but kaiden helps change her mind about that - well, him and working with them (she's a colonist). other than that, she's just about as cautious as he is. i think my only complaint about kaidan at all is that there weren't enough funny lines. there are a few ("i could shoot something if it would make you feel better") but not as many as i'd like.

Not sure, I think I like the Predator look the best or the basic black of the starting armor. The armor on Horizon actually wasn't bad except for the odd lights.



2. Is Kaidan your favorite love interest of all time? If not, who is?

I think so far he probably is my favorite. Followed closely by Alistair and then Carth.



3. How did you first get into ME1?

This one is a bit odd. I was deeply obsessed with Dragon Age. Then ME2's release date got closer and closer. I had never heard of ME1 - yeah I didn't pay attention to anything that wasn't a fantasy RPG. I was getting really annoyed that all of the ME2 threads were bumping all of the DA threads off of the first page on the Bioware forums. I had very unkind thoughts about ME2 - I just wanted it to go away! Then I actually read stuff about the game and I was like wait ... I can play as a female (all promo stuff had Shepard as only male). And then I was like wait I can import my character plus choices from the first game (one of my favorite features in game sequels). So I got ME1 maybe a week before ME2 was released.



4. Did you paragon or renegade Kaidan? Or left him as is?

I wasn't actually aware that you could change him by taking paragon response choices, I only thought you could change him by taking renegade ones and then charming/intimidating him. I never renegaded him though so I would have to say judging from memory that I paragon him.



5. What is your preferred romance conclusion for Kaidan in ME3? Ambiguous? Conclusive?

As fort said, conclusive and positive. Damn you, horrible Alistair endings! *shakes fist*



6. How do you think Kaidan would get along with the squad mates in ME2?

I think mostly so. He may have issues with Miranda (the FORMER Cerberus cheerleader in my play throughs). He may have a problem with Legion and misgivings about EDI.

Garrus and Tali about the old days.



8. Pistol or assault rifle for Kaidan?

Hmmm, pistol. Though he probably knows how to use an assault rifle being that you use it with two hands it would interfere with his biotics a bit I would think.

As others have said his skillset is more valuable to the Alliance and to my squad. I always had him a long in my squad not because he was Shepard's LI -ok not JUST because he was Shepard's LI - but mostly because of the biotics + tech + medical skill. He is also a more experienced soldier and a higher ranking officer. I liked Ashley as a character but she didn't fill any special role in my squad - she was straight combat which wasn't as helpful to me usually.



10. Did you know that Kaidan means "ghost story"? Do you think that has any relevance to his character?

I knew but I never really thought about what relevance it migh have to his character.



11. Is there anything you especially agree or disagree with Kaidan in terms of his views?

Not really. I think he has a bit too much blind faith in the Alliance especially considering their mistakes with BAAT. But then in ME1 I had a lot of blind faith in the Alliance as well. That's been shaken in ME2. Not because they didn't "rescue" or look for Shepard after the Normandy was destroyed - I wouldn't have expected the Alliance to expend the resources that Cerberus did to bring Shepard back. Mostly it's because of the way the Alliance treated Shepard after she (or he) died and whatever data it is that Kasumi finds in Keiji's graybox (even if you don't know exactly what that info is).

for me, it's garrus, as i mentioned. his skills are useful and he amuses me. i think i like the dialog banter between kaidan and ashley better though. garrus gets all the "wise" lines and kaiden gets the "newb" lines, it seems. with ashley around, kaidan is the veteran and ashley the newb.

Can't remember the names, but everything darkish... also I didn't mind the design in ME2... but no armor would be best... I mean casuals of course. (What were you thinking...)

He's surely the one  I have spent a lot of thoughts and time with (mainly in this thread and writing ff) and I love him, yes. Though the other way around (PC is male and LI is female) I enjoyed the Witcher a lot as well. And besides that... well I have many ideas lurking in the gutter of my mind about characters in games that you can't really romance.

3. How did you first get into ME1?
Working as game tester in CA, and needed a change of pace. One of my colleagues suggested it to me and tada... got hooked. I almost cried when it was over - sat there thinking "This can't have been it..."

4. Did you paragon or renegade Kaidan? Or left him as is?
Can you even paragon him more than he is? If you can, I probably did. I'm not the renegade type, though there are situations when I have to go with the renegade answer... can't be good all the time.

5. What is your preferred romance conclusion for Kaidan in ME3? Ambiguous? Conclusive?
I'd prefer something definite, something happy, something that will lessen the pain of seeing the end of the trilogy. I'm fine if they leave it open if they get married or not, but I wanna be able to see them off into a loving future... with fighting and enemies and monsters and mercs and what not but as a couple - a team!

6. How do you think Kaidan would get along with the squad mates in ME2?
I think he would be wary around some of them. I'm certain he wouldn't trust Miranda or Jacob right away and I think he'd have an issue with Legion but Kaidan is always trying his best and so I think he'd eventually give them all a chance.

7. Assuming there is (hopefully) banter in ME3, who would you most like to see Kaidan bantering with?
I can't decide on this one. Actually I'd take all others with me, one after another, just to see what Kaidan has to say. I'd be interested to see how he and Garrus get along after what happened, though. Jack would be interesting and after all the ideas we've had already, I would like to see how he reacts to Thane's flashbacks.

8. Pistol or assault rifle for Kaidan?
I don't really care. As a soldier on his status he probably knows how to use both, and maybe I'd give him a choice if we know what we're heading for. Heavily fortified merc-base, bring the AR. Some smaller groups of mercs, bring the pistol. I'd love to see him use more biotics though.

9. Besides being your love interest, what are some reasons you would save Kaidan on Virmire?
Since he's the tech he's always staying with the bomb. No matter if he says that he makes sure it will go off... I'm still not so sure. After all, it's Geth - or Heretics, we're facing. If anyone could hack the bomb and disarm it, it'd be them.
Also, I always have the impression that Ashely is sad that her family has a bad reputation and I tend to think that she is willingly putting herself at a risk to prove them wrong. Maybe I'm just telling myself that to make the decision easier, but I try to look at it as her ultimate sacrifice to restore the honor of her family, as well as die with thoughts that she's saving those that accepted her for who she is.

10. Did you know that Kaidan means "ghost story"? Do you think that has any relevance to his character?
Yes, I've heard that but I don't think it really means a lot. To be honest, we all have ghosts - one way or another.

11. Is there anything you especially agree or disagree with Kaidan in terms of his views?
His unlimited trust in the Alliance does... bother me a bit at times, just as his tendency to try with all strength to see something good in the people. Some people just can't be considered 'good' and a lot of them certainly don't have good intentions. I'd like to see him acting a bit more out of what he wants, not what he's been told was the right thing to do.

In ME1 I mostly used Kaidan and Tali. Garrus was cool but he really shined in ME2 IMO.

As for the default squad:

Usually Kaidan and Garrus though I did enjoy Kaidan and Ashley.

I really remember if you take Kaidan and Garrus through Chora's Den to get Fist and you get to these two guys who are supposed to stop you. If you Charm them into leaving without a fight Garrus says, "Huh. I would never have though of that." and Kaidan says, "Sometimes a gun isn't the right answer." Or something to that effect.

Yes, I never liked any video game romances before Mass Effect.  David Gaider once got snarky with me on the NWN1 forums, because all I ever did was whine about Aarin Gend and Anomen, and how female gamers got shafted in that regard.  He has since redeemed himself in my eyes by creating Valen Shadowbreath, Carth, Alistair, and Zevran, but Kaidan is still top of my list.

I was not interested in ME1 when it was first announced, because it was Xbox only, and I was a PC RPG gamer.  I finally broke down and got it several months after it came out on PC when I saw a screenshot of the opening scene with Kaidan and Joker, and the subtitle said that Kaidan was the female LI.  I was like "I can play as a female character?  And that guy is the love interest???  Sold!"

My main Shepard is very paragon, so I guess I paragon-ized him with her, and I left him as is on my renegade character.

I'd prefer the ending to be open ended, as I can see one of my characters being happy getting married and having babies, but my other character not so much.  As long as I ride off into the sunset with Kaidan as the credits roll, I'm good.

I agreed with him that it is total BS that Shepard didn't go straight to the Alliance after Freedom's Progress and worked with them, or at least tried.  I disagreed with him about that last five minutes before reaching Ilos, Joker could have waited...
