@TeenZombie, I disagree with Thane being the most complex. His wife died. His son went renegade. He's dying. And now he likes you as his 'second' Siha whose going on a suicide mission. Just kind of seems like a laundry list of depressing things, not real character development.

Then again, I'm biased.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not terribly impressed that the writers reused the dead wife, wayward son story for Thane, and I don't like the idea that he left his son behind to seek out revenge against his wife's killers, instead of staying with him and raising him.  That's not romantic.  That's a huge mistake, and I'm glad that Thane gets to address it, but it's a little annoying that the character "made for the ladies" got that particular story.  Meh.  Anyway, the fact that he's got such a "heavy" story, and that he's an assassin who prays for forgiveness after each kill, AND he's got the fatal disease on top of all of that, makes him complex to me.  Some people prefer the amped up drama that a love interest like Thane or Jack would bring, and I appreciate that, but he's not my speed, personally.

And he's a lizard.

Sorry, like someone else here said ... I just can't get over the fact that he's a lizard. I like the character well enough but no LI for me there.

I don't have an issue with the lizard factor although I do always think of him living in Shep' s fish tank as a LI, can't recall who on this thread gave me that particular image. It's just that he's not Kaidan.

I have to say that my femShep has come to value Thane's friendship. Even if you're rude to him about his religious philosophies, he's still nice. I find that very admirable.

Still, he's not snugglywuggly like Kaidan XD

I do think Kaidan's romance has a sort of unique charm to it. Can't put my finger to it. Might be in part that he's rather sensitive (as in introspective and choosing his words carefully). So is Thane, but there's still different.

For me, as a female gamer who had never liked any of the romances in any video game I'd played before, the Kaidan romance in Mass Effect was a revelation.  A character who likes my character, without crazy drama preceding his interest, who doesn't have tons of issues that I need to fix.  I like that he's reserved, and subtle, because I'm not terribly impressed or turned on by Alpha Male types.  And he's pretty good looking, has a great voice, and would be the kind of guy I'd be happy to meet IRL.  The only downside to the Kaidan romance is that you have to sacrifice Ashley to get to it.  BOO, Bioware, BOO.

I prefer playing human characters in games, when there is a choice, and if I have a choice, I would choose human romance options, but Thane is pretty sexy, IMO.  I just already preferred Kaidan, and want to conclude his romance on all my characters.  I feel angst in Dragon Age, over choosing between Alistair and Zevran, but in ME I haven't felt as impressed by any other LI as I have by Kaidan.

No ofence to Garrus fans, i love the guy, a lot, but his romance is really...

i made a shep for which to do a garrus romance run - and the whole thing made me feel dirty. :crying: i love garrus, i do. i really, really do. but 1) he reminds me of a kid brother who grew taller than you 2) he's got frigging FANGS! - i mean fangs and more fangs and madibles and...yeah  and 3) his hips look - well, let's just say the whole thing kind of creeps me out. i just don't want to think about that too much.

sadly, that was the prettiest shep i ever made and i did it as an import and have been trying ever since to re-create her. (Sigh)

@ teen  - i agree. zevran was a surprisingly complex romance. i did that one on a DAO run and liked him better than alistair. he was the only person in the game who never lied to me - for that alone i liked him.

yes. i think it's because he's mature and nice. i mean, it's a simple thing, but he's someone who could live without shep but doesn't want to. he doesn't need her, but he wants her badly. i think that's awesome.

i kept meaning to turn that one into a motivational for the stickied thread. "Kaidan: He doesn't understand women (and it's cute)"

but i never got around to it. not sure most of the folks in that thread would get the reference anyhow.

Oh Teen, I prefer Kaidan anyway and I really do want to see the conclusion of that romance. I mean out of all of the game LI's he IS the most stable, mature and normal and it's really refresing. Especially since I had just played DAO and was still bitter over the Alistair endings (you die, he dies or you do something I personally find kinda wrong and selfish).

There were a few reasons I never really got into Thane other than that though. One was the lizard thing. The rest was way too much angst - dead wife, estranged son, he's dying anyway. I like talking to him and I find him an interesting character. As others have said Garrus is more a buddy and like a brother. Jacob - I never got past the way Shep talks to him.

What's the current topic? Which of the love interests has the most complexity? Looks at the thread subject. Uh, Kaidan. Totally him.

But as I told someone wondering about the complexity of Jack's romance, a lot of the depth you'll find in the romances comes from what you as the player are willing to put into it. Interpretations will always vary. Yes, even if you thought consensus was achieved on Jacob's romance, you can find people who find the good in it.

So that said, I do actually like the romance with Kaidan the best, but I don't know if I can say complexity has much to do with it. In many ways, his romance is the least complex of them because Kaidan is arguably the most surefooted and stable love interest of them all. He's not overcoming the darkest days of his life, he's not a penitent man looking for spiritual healing,  he's not a sexual harassment suit in the making Jacob. There's not a compelling argument I can make in Kaidan's favor other than I get more out his romance than I do the others.

Most complex romance probably goes to Mordin. The poor salarian might die of old age before he accepts my love is true.

randomly: i am doing another ME1 run and am in my LEAST favorite part: cleaning out the armstrong nebula -- 5 planets of MAKO and geth. ugh.

what is your least favorite part of an ME run? i guess i mean more for boring than sad (Horizons sucks, but it's also so very emotional that i love and hate it at the same time).

edit: and to keep it happy, what about favorite(s)?

The most boring parts of an ME1 run are the sidequest planets where you drive up mountains in boring featureless planets to go to the same mercenary/science base you've seen a million times. Or play simon says for minerals (granted planet scanning isn't fun either). Or collect random stuff in the ground.

I didn't find selling the mountains of junk in my inventory exactly compelling either. Or turning it in the mostly useless omnigel in the likely case that I have max credits.

Other than that I can't think of anything else particularly boring. Maybe Therum. The other main mission planets were better than Therum.

My favorites parts - everything else. Fantastic game. But I suppose my absolute favorite part would have to be the Citadel and Noveria.

Yeah, the Geth Incursion quests were so tedious, and no real story or anything to break up the monotony.  My least favorite part of the game is probably just running around in the Mako, looking for minerals and artifacts...coincidentally, my least favorite part of ME2 is planet scanning.  <_<  I'm so looking forward to it in ME3.

My favorite part, I'll have to go with:

Interesting discussions always seem to happen when I'm asleep lol But because of the discussion I feel like going through DA and romance Zevran again (love the guy). But have to work first and by the time I get home my common sense will have knocked the idea of playing DA again out of my head ;)

Was experimenting with this new Kaidan pic and roughed up Kaidan...adding a trickle of blood and whatnot. Man...is it odd to say that it's both disturbing to see him all wounded and yet he still makes it looks sexy as hell? :P

@ jho - i don't think that's weird. i think i mentioned earlier that i thought the blood in da:o was hot. dunno why, but i did. not sure i want to analyze that too much....

The blood can be a nice effect after fighting, to give that sort of edge that makes the fight seem more visceral and real. Buuuut it's rather jarring to talk to a love interest amorously as if they weren't dotted in blood.

Well thankfully there's a huge difference between a trickle of blood here and there and being covered from head to toe in the stuff like in DA

Interesting, TZ. And I agree; it certainly sucks how you have to sacrifice Ashley if you truly want Kaidan (and vice versa). As much as I love Ashley, I sacrificed her for Kaidan as a female. I really didn't want to do it, but I guess Kaidan was able to get my female Shepard's emotional phase. I've had respect for him as a character ever since. ;)

That said, I'm going to import my female into ME2 real soon. And as much as I hate to say it , I've decided to move on and choose Thane this time. He totally caught me off guard with his personality and backstory, when I thought Kaidan was the best romance option for a female Shepard. I've seen part of the romance scene with Thane on YouTube and I almost shed a tear.
