Well, I *was* thinking childhood accident, but if you insist....  That could totally be a scar from slipping off a bed at an inopportune moment while in a very awkward position.  I'm just sayin'.

I've had way too much sugar today.  The AC isn't working in the office.  I can't think straight right.  And yes, I did, but it was a while ago, I was just thinking about it this week.  It will wear off shortly.

But yeah, if you were on a metal bedframe (most shipboard stuff seems to be pretty bare bones), and you were perched on the end, and slipped off, you could conceivably hit your chin on the sharp corner in such a way as to leave that scar.  Holy run on sentence, Batman!

I was thinking he and Shep could have had an epic fight over some renegade decision she'd made and she'd throw something at him. It cuts his lip badly and she gets to nurse him back to health and show him how very, very sorry she is until it heals enough for more smooching.

Alternatively, Joker could have been screwing around and pulled a really sharp maneuver that caused Kaidan, who was innocently walking back to his station on the bridge, to crack his poor mouth on a bulkhead. The nursing back to health and smooching still apply.

But he has the scar from the beginning.  Continuity!

I liked your second idea about the ship board boo boo.  I have personal experience with an angry treadmill during some rough seas on an amphib.  It tilted.  I felt like I was going uphill.  Picked it up a notch.  Neglected to account for tilt back in the opposite direction.  Faceplant into treadmill controls.  Very funny for everyone else.

So, yeah, that one seems much more plausible.

I'm in the midst of writing a violent Shep right now.  I'm thinking she's stretching to loosen up before she unleashes some biotic fu on a pile of husks.  No weapons, just whoopin'.
