huh. slightly off topic, but playing through ME1 again, i'm suddenly hit with the thought that banes = illusive man?

you remember banes? the guy was working on top secret alliance stuff (via wiki), then was supposedly dead, then is making threats. everyone who found his "body" went missing thanks to cerberus. and the illusive man sure doesn't look like a normal dude - more like he's been tampered with. maybe shepard isn't the first to be "brought back"

looked in the "read this before posting spoilers" thread and saw nothing on the guy.

well i guess it's not off topic. am collecting theories for a possible FF take on me2

I've seen at least one thread on this forum with the same TIM theory, and I think it has merit.  Cerberus was part of the Alliance at one point, and what better cover for a guy who doesn't want to be found than to be declared dead?  I remember being really frustrated that that quest didn't seem to go anywhere...maybe it will finally be wrapped up in ME3.  I'd be impressed if the writers do go back and clear it up, whether TIM is Banes or not.

@ jaer. hmmm... all good points. then i wonder if banes was a red herring or what. red dead herring redemption...

I also think Miranda's dad is the Shadow Broker.

huh. that would make sense. i kept thinking it was going to liara's "dad" - some asari. "liara, i am your father". poor liara though, that would have her taking down both of her parents - well, in my playthroughs anyhow.

and im glad you posted the trio to keep us on topic.

I'm also pretty sure the matriarch bartender is Liara's dad.

We need a vacation in Vancouver to meet Kaidan's parents. ;)

There, see?  Brought it back on topic again.

@Sage...I've heard the Banes theory before but it doesn't work for me for a couple of reasons.
1. Banes is hands on working on top Secret Stuff. TIM strikes me as more of a Godfather type...he has people who do that so he doesn't have to.
2. Banes is spending too much time hiding. It takes a lot of effort to stage a disappearance, and if his 'body' is missing, he's inept as well. TIM is inept when his ego gets in the way, not because he hasn't thought through the implications.
3. People in hiding don't contact other people and while I sincerely doubt that the image we see of TIM is what he actually looks like, he's in contact with a lot of people on a regular basis.

@ Shenzi...probably early next week for ASW2. Depends on how work goes, ironically enough. I'm debating the rating already. Does Teen include petting? And is Mature for all sex scenes or just graphic?
Also, someone mentioned that the interaction between Kaidan and Shep in Couple Talk was 'cute' is that a good or a bad thing???

Cute is good. Why would you think not?

Cuddly
Unique
True
Exotic

Or whatever other nice things you can think of....,

@Night...I was worried it was cute in the pink fuzzy bunny slippers on a five year old girl in pig tails sort of way. Funny is fine, I think both Kaidan and Shep show each other sides no one else sees, but cute made me think 'too sweet' and 'not realistic'.

Hmm, don't know if that made sense. Shutting up, now, Sir!

Hey everyone!

Just my thoughts over Kaidan being a Spectre:

Like others, I could see it happening to him but not to Ash. Though I do look upon the separate treatment of Ash and Kaidan with skepticism, there is evidence in ME2 that Kaidan is a Spectre and Ash isn't:

Kaidan is promoted two ranks, Ash is promoted one.

That bit of information brings me pause. After all, Udina and Anderson play similar and interchangeable roles, but they clearly have different jobs.

Ash may be promoted to LT (did I get that right?)  But which LT?  There are three ranks of lieutenant, after all.  2nd, 1st, and Staff.  Also, being promoted from Non-Com to Commissioned is HUGE.

Kaidan is a Staff Commander, while Shep's only a Lieutenant Commander.

Does anyone still have that Alliance ranking chart laying around somewhere?

Here.

If Ash is promoted much more, it'll go into the realm of unrealistic.

what fort said.

so that means kaidan outranks shepard now. only as a spectre, she's sort of outside the chain of command, still.

hmm.... that could get - interesting. i really hope something fun comes of that in ME3.

geh - batarians. almost done with this mission. kyrie shep is trying to keep the rage at bay...

Don't you get a promotion for saving the Citadel? How about for saving colonies from destruction? Somehow I don't she him outranking her for long. I am sure if she hadn't died she would have been promoted.

I am playing ME2 again to coincide with my writing muse right now and I find at least 2 different times she could have saved herself - first don't look at the Collectors shot /grab Joker and leave -

When she shove Joker in the pod, she has her hand inside the pod she only had to pull her antigravity butt inside.

raving I know but losing two years of planning for the Reapers and two years of Kaidan lovin are annoying me right now. Maybe I need coffee....

So, what is she, a Second LT, now?

Navigator Pressley was more than likely a Staff LT. While Kaidan was a 1st LT, right?

Nope.

In ME1, Kaidan was Staff Lt. Ash was Gunnery Chief. Pressley's rank is unknown, though it's possible that he was put as XO so that Kaidan could join the shore party since his talents would be wasted if he sat around in the ship while Shepard fought.

In ME2, Kaidan is Staff Commander and Ash is Operations Chief. So, something strange is up with that (unless the devs made a mistake).

I seriously hope they come up with separate storylines for Ashley and Kaidan in ME3.

Ashidan really needs to have ended with Horizon.

[snip]
Since the ME2 LI's could all possibly be dead as well, I wonder which characters they will 'merge'. We might get to see Thane in Jack's armor or Jacob in Miranda's for all we know :P

Nah, I'm going to have a little bit of faith and believe Bioware has a plan for both Ash and Kaidan that will do them both justice without having to write two seperate story arcs (which I believe they won't.)

Ooh, Thane in nothing but jeans with a leather belt around his chest?  Eye candy!  Not that Shep would be tempted to stray but it's only fair we ladies get a little bonus material with our romance, right?

By the bye, Chapter 9 of The Double is posted for your entertainment.  Still no Kaidan but we're getting closer!  Anderson's gonna have some 'splainin' to do in Chapter 10.

Does anyone know if Ashley says that she needs to report back to the Citadel at the end of the Horizon encounter, the way Kaidan does? If so, that may be a hint towards whether she's a Spectre or not. As far as I know, the Alliance doesn't have a base of operations on the Citadel. But if she were a Spectre...

I'm not sure about that, but I do know the Alliance does operate out of the Citadel. That's Hackett's branch if I remember correctly.

Well, if it works the same way in ME as it does in the military, he and Pressley could have been the same rank, with Pressley just being senior in terms of time of service.

I would really hate that. I notice in some RPGs, two characters can wear the exact same armor, if they are male it covers everything, if they are female the armor for some reason magically leaves the stomach and/or other places vulnerable. That's when armor ceases to be armor and instead be metal bikinis, as you said. It's annoying because it's hard to take armor that looks like that seriously.

I used to have a "motivational poster" about this that I found... somewhere.  Apparently it got lost in the *Great Migration* to new computer, though, and my Google skills aren't good enough to find it.

It had a side by side from Lineage 2 of a male and female elf in some sort of leather armor.  Him completely covered, her not so much.  Underneath is said, "It's not that she can't wear the whole set of armor, it's that she's just so much better than him that she doesn't need it."

I loved that poster.  Posted Image  Wish I could find it...

hm... good pt. about the ranks. didn't that drunk turian say that shep might make a good general.

talk about a serious breach of protocol when she and kaikai get back together.

gar! i hate the bringing down the sky mission. pausing to take a breath before making final decision. save hostages or end terrorists? either way, it's not a fun ending.

My Shepard always saves the hostages, Even thought he gets away, she will get him later.

I didn't mind the mission itself, just the running aroung looking for the dead bodies / that was boring.

Wow, really???  That shoots my theory down already, but I'm more annoyed now that we didn't get to actually *see* Admiral Hackett.  How can you use Lance Henriksen's voice but not show his character???  (Did anyone else see/love Millenium, btw?)

I don't think the Alliance will reinstate Shepard. They'll probably let her go to the Council so she can get a greater amount of work done. Of course, that won't keep them from asking the occasional favor. That being said, fraternization shouldn't be an issue in ME3.

I have one Shepard of each choice =]

well then. nothing like a few good renegade lines to make me not feel like a total tool for saving the hostages. it's my gut instinct, i'm going with it. but i like the way femshep says, "i'm going to come down on him like the wrath of GOD"

alright. i need lunch.

and i like the idea of regs not getting in the way for ME3. there will be enough drama w.o that.

Yeah, I saved Kate on my paragon character too.  I felt awful when I killed Balak and had to tell the surviving guy what I did.  Explaining that I'm going to kick Balak's ass anyway just feels better to me.

And as far as regs...I'll be so glad if they're not an issue at all in ME3.  Although I thought they handled the issue of fraternization very well in ME1 with the Kaidan/Ashley romance, I still didn't feel great when I thought that it was still going to be an issue in ME2 (joke was on me, there was no Kaidan romance in ME2!).  It's one of the reasons I don't like the idea of "romancing" Kelly, and I probably wouldn't touch a Kenneth romance, either, if it was available.
