Well, if Shep did not get a promotion, she's only a Lt. Commander. Kaidan is now a Staff Commander, which outranks Lt. Commander according to Alliance ranks.

I still think that when we get accepted back into the alliance, and we will damnit!  That We'll also get a nice juicy promotion.  I like General, so Kaidan best not get used to me saluting him because I would hate to have to punish him ................  scratch that, punishment = good

Regardless, Kaidan should be trained like a puppy by now and willing to stand to attention no matter what

Now that I think about it, it doesn't matter if Kaidan does outrank Shep, Shep is the captain of the ship and commander of the mission. Per military tradition Kaidan still has to salute her and follow her orders

They could promote Kaidan to Admiral and he'd still get embarrassed and shy around Shep.

I thought she was the xo of the ship, so that means she doesn't out rank him. If we go by the game he /she is a spectre, so  she is outside of the chin of command.   In other words, she still kind of out ranks him.
