Kaidan's post- eden prime talk with femshep goes a long way to establishing kaidan's character imo. he talks about his family, why he joined the military, etc. you do not get that as male shep. he just says hi as you walk out of the med bay. ash, on the other hand, gets same dialog (minus romance stuff) for male or female shep. and the time i played as male shep, kaidan says a lot less ot male shep. i know guys who have said kaidan is their bro, but i do think you don't see quite as much of his personality unless you play a femshep AND are looking for it. that's sort of kaidan - reserved. ashley is so NOT reserved though, that she comes off as friendly to male or femshep (i think)

The only thing you don't get as a manshep is the post-eden prime conversation.  When you chat with Kaidan you have the option of saying that just because Shepard is Kaidan's superior doesn't mean that they can't be friends.
