ooh, that's nice to wake up to.

morning all. getting coffee and catching up...

Also, if you use the official cannon date for Shepard's birthdate (4.11.2172), Shepard is an Aries.[/quote]

i did not know this. thank you - i was about to look that up for fic purposes.

i am loving the discussion of old-school games. my dad introduced me to king's quest as a kid and i don't think he realized the monster he created in his little girl. perils of rosella - seriously, first female avatar i ever saw. it was inspiring. (i'm not counting mrs. pacman. she didn't have hair. or a waist)

i guess that dates me. i'm 30. makes me feel this sort of weird affinity for shep. like, we're the same age (sorta?), but my life is SO not like ME. still, it's fun to role play that it is. if that makes any sense. maybe it doesn't.

I loved the King's Quest games!  I was a teenager in the early 90s, and any video or computer game that had female protagonists was a big deal to me.  Even something like Maniac Mansion, where the female characters were part of the team, was cool.  And seeing Samus Aran at the end of the original Metroid!!!  Of course, RPGs where I could play my own female character blew my mind.

I really enjoy sci-fi movies and tv shows with female heroes, too, so FemShep is awesome to me.  Jennifer Hale does a great job of giving her personality, but I still feel like I can give her my own backstory and history.

As for the movie, the only way I'm going to see it is if the plot has nothing to do with Shepard.  Otherwise I'm going to block it out of my mind.  I will reluctantly seek out any Kaidan scenes on YouTube, though, I'll admit it, although they'll probably make me weep.

I only ever played the original King's Quest, and King's Quest II, but those games were amazing.

My first big foray into video game RPGs was the Might and Magic series, where you could customize your entire party.

i loved maniac mansion growing up.  i'm more drawn to games where i can play as a female or they're female-centric.  i'm thirty-two so i started out with the atari 2600 and have been addicted ever since.  my first foray into the computer world was doom.

my boyfriend was the one who owned mass effect and when i walked by the tv and saw kaidan i asked him about the hot guy next to maleshep.  then i proceeded to take over his playthrough and make my own femshep.  i didn't feel bad about it though.  kaidan was worth it.

Every video to game movie film has been subpar and most frequently butchers the story and characters of the game it's based upon. Talented as Bioware is, I have no reason to believe they would somehow break the trend.

It's even worse if they use Commander Shepard in the movie. Using Shepard would annoy a great deal of fans, who have their own idea of what is canon for them, of who Shepard is and how Shepard acted. There's no doubt Shepard would be male in the movie - and already there you have a sizeable group of fans who are not being represented. That just goes to show that even one thing such as gender can alienate fans.

But that's not all. Shepard is going to have his own moral compass, his own love interest, his own background, his own everything, all of which have great potential to be vastly different from how the fans played and how the fans fell in love with the game. Their own personal experience will puncture, deflate, and become illusionary.

Though I'm exaggerating here. But I think many fans agree at least in part with me.

So far as Kaidan goes, one of the worst things they can do is make him completely or virtually forever in the background. Which I expect them to do.

Movies based upon video games do tend to suck although the recent Prince of Persia movie seems to be an exception (imo).

I do hope that Bioware will have the good sense not to alienate their fans with an ME movie that detracts from user game experience (i.e., a "Shepard" movie).  However,  I'm resigned to almighty dollar taking precedence so I think it's more likely that the projected bottom line will have a significant influence on the storyline and whether or not Shepard is the movie hero.

i think the movie would be cool IF

it was about john shepard and how he fought in the Allaince military in the first contact war, met a beautiful fellow marine named Hannah, and the two of them liberated Shanxi and fell in love.

then at the end, they find out Hannah is pregnant and consider moving to earth, the colonies, or just staying on with the Alliance and figuring things out for their new baby Shepard...

not that that's what they're going to do, but i think they should. that would be cool.

And those sound bugs used to drive me up the wall! Was funny, though, hearing how loud my friend screamed the first time she heard "Veeeeeeeeengeaaaaaaaance"

No worries! For your squee-ification, Kaidan has finally made a real appearance in Chapter 16, now. I left it in the middle of something non-smexy, though, as other things need to be addressed. You waited and now you get a two-for-one special!

I'm sorry you were busy, though, for you and for the folks who needed your help.

Hello everybody,

I´m just taking a break from ME1. My femshep, Kaidan and Wrex are just on the way to Cora´s den. That made me think about what happend on Omega in ME2, because I met Fist there. And that was funny because Wrex killed him. So maybe Shepard wasn´the first one who was brought back to life... lol...

@ Jho your pics are beautiful and like I`ve have written before: I love to look at them

LOL Really, Aslan? Sounds like a continuity error on Bioware's part.

I'm taking a break from KotOR right now to write. Not Kaidan, but the next best thing.

That's weird.  My son just started an ME2 run but he's never played ME1 so I'll have to keep an eye out and see if Fist shows up on Omega.  That would mean that not killing him on the Citadel is the canon choice, right?  Why would Wrex come with you if you don't go kill him?  Then again, Wrex doesn't appear to exist in the default story for ME2 so I'm thinking Ash killed him on Virmire.  I'll let you know if Fist is hanging around on Omega.
