I remember this theory that was tossed around that the Council would try and pull a Saren against Shepard, either sending another Spectre after him/her or granting Spectre status to whoever survived Virmire (Kaidan) and charging them with stopping Shepard.

Pure speculation, but it would probably make for an awesome twist.

Hm I think I've read some fan fiction leading that way, sort of.
If some dev decides they are going to make the ME1 LI's indoctrinated however, I'm going to scream.

Indoctrination seems like a more immediate threat.

I can see them rehashing the loyalty mechanic to try and keep squadmembers from being indoctrinated.

Romance options would get a big bonus to resist indoctrination, for example.

I have heard that one too, it would certainly create tension if your shep was in a relationship with Kaidan or Ashley. If the council is as slow to act as they seem to always be, I can't see that happening. they have a habit of shutting their eyes to the obvious. eg dead reaper all over the citadel.

True.

The Council is an outstanding example of willful obliviousness.

However, I doubt they will ignore Shepard trying to build his own army against the Reapers, which is where this seems to be going.

Especially when two of those races, the krogan and the rachni, nearly destroyed the galaxy on their own.

I like the council.  I think they know more than they are letting on.  They just don't fully trust Shepard because he (or she in most of this thread's characters) is working for Cerberus (and known pro-human terrorist group).  You don't give the Asari and Salarians there due... they know a lot more than you think.  The council will likely be the backbone to Shepard's forces and the other non-council species will likely tip the tide in Shepard's favor as you recruit them for the final battle.

i see what you mean, add in the Geth and you've got Saren's army right there.  if ME3 is going to be building up a collective force to take out the reapers, I can't see them making Kaidan or Ashley spectres as they would become our advocates to the Alliance (hopefully), while Anderson would be our advocate to the council.

Maybe, maybe not.

They certainly aren't being very vocal about their support.

However, the fact that they are in a precarious position as the closest thing the galaxy has to a government means they can't show support even if they did have any.

So we can't really say for sure what they will do or how much they really know.

However, I like the idea of Shepard effectively becoming something close to Saren.

Cybernetics, loyalty of the krogan through Wrex, loyalty of the rachni, loyalty of the geth through Legion...

Kind of sets off some warning signals for the Council. Anybody with that much power is a potential destablizing influence on the galaxy.

However, if they do decide to finally show support, this might be the quickest mustering of a military force the galaxy has ever seen.

And the Rachni will sing colorful songs towards the Reapers and blow them up with their musics.

This seems likely.

Kaidan would fill that position perfectly.

It's actually the colors that will blow them up and not the sound itself.  The new Heavy Weapon of the next game is going to be the Rainbow gun.

In ME2 you learn that the Reapers used mind control to manipulate the Rachni to fight for them.  We know that the brood warriors are biotic and that Rachni are sensitive to biotics.  That is it... I want a rachni squadmate in ME3.  And a Rachni rainbow launcher.  Alliance forces will nickname it the Leprekaun.
