Afternoon all
I knew when I got ME2 that Kaidan only had a cameo but it could have been handled so much better and quite honestly it felt like it was added on as an afterthought.
I have to say that I liked ME2, although reading my post you may not believe that, lol, but its not in my list of top 5 games. I am also not a shooter fan and have only played 1 game that can be classed as a true shooter before. ME is so much better in terms of story, there's just no comparison. The romances in ME were far superior to the cheesy nonsense we got in ME2, with femShep getting the worst of the cheese. I hated the lazy Kaidan/Ash cookie cutter scene and I'm sure the writers were on a major bender when they wrote the Horizon dialogue. I have no problem with what Kaidan said or his attitude towards Shepard, but her dialague stinks, lol. Then of course we have the infamous "I just want to talk for a bit" sleezy c'mon that we are subjected to just because we are trying to talk to Jacob without event thinking of romancing him. Whoever thought that voice acting was ok should be smacked upside the head. It also would have been nice to be able to reply to damn emails. Quite honestly we are in a ship that is superior to the original Normandy where we could actually talk to Hackett or shep's mother over the comm system but now the technology is such that we can't even send a freaking email.
The whole concept of a "suicide mission" was also pretty lame, given that it was ridiculously easy to get everyone out alive just by using common sense. There were no real hard decisions, like Virmire that had to be made. There were also way too many squadmates, given that only 2 squadmates can go with Shep on any given mission, and someone is going to have to go to make room for Kaidan.
I was never a fan of the Mako, but hell I'd kill to have it back after the agony of planet scanning and trying to control the stupid Hammerhead. as for dlc, none of it excites me so far. Kasumi was a waste of time, she sucks in combat, including in her own flaming dlc. The only thing that came from that dlc was another new weapon. The dress meant nothing to me, especially as femShep walks with all the grace of a frontrow footballer, and sits like one too.
To me it was like Bioware put so much time, effort, and resources into the combat system in an effort to woo the shooter crowd that they forgot what it is about bioware games that make them so great, and everything else just seemed like an afterthought, or a rushed job. Hopefully we will have a return to some actual rpg elements in ME3.
Forgive me I'm in a very bad mood. As I said I like the game but it just doesn't have the same replayability factor the first one has for me. I'll step off my soapbox now and go back to killing darkspawn.
It seems that many, not to say most cause I don't know how close to the numbers that would be, of us have the same issues. Femshep walked and moved like a marine since ME1 but at some point it's been overdone. It's fine having only one behavioural model for the player character, but honestly now, how many women do you know who spread their arms and buff when ordering drinks in a bar? I don't mind the hardcore **** look, but, Maker's blood, Jack was more feminine! Gives me the feeling tha they put it in and "hoped we don't notice'. Well, I say we did. She's the hottest woman in the galaxy and her actual sensuality is at 0%. Yeah fine, go on ahead and headbutt Krogans all you like, but when she needs to get some charm out she's got as much charm as an oyster. And as you already said, i just stopped talking to jacob cause of the "i just wanna talk sweetcheeks" smirk/sleezy swagger, honestly. I had to shoot him two renegade really rude replies just to get rid of the romancing aspect, what gives? I really just wanted to talk. same goes for Jack, I tried to make friends and I got "I'm like you Shepard, I don't do women" O.O Erhm, hello? We don't all walk around with our brains in our crotch, that's a male attribute.
The shootemup aspect of the game I enjoyed I must say, although I have to agree that with a soldier character I basically spent all my time searching the floors for bullets. Haven't tried the DLCs yet, and I'm curious about Zaed and Kasumi, but I'll be reserved, judging from the comments in here.
The intense scanning sort of annoyed me as well, but what annoyed me THE MOST was the lack of funds. At some point i had billions of resources and no money to complete my reasearch and buy new upgrades at all! What's up with that!? You can't complete the achievements cause you can't complete all upgrades cause you don't have money O.o how does that make any sense? I felt like a bum trying not to waste a buck in case I came across some updrage for the ability/weapon I wanted... hey give us a break, already.
As for the RPG element, well, that wasn't role playing actually, I mean you have to be given some options, some alternatives to roleplay, here you just try to catch up with the renegade button when it appears onscreen, i can hardly call that RP. I think I ended up romancing half the crew and getting the boot by Mordin who told me he doesn't dig me, just cause i was trying to strike up a convo trying to rp with them somehow... TO THE DEVS: Listen kids, I don't want to shag the entire Normandy crew, the ONLY one whom I wanted around you kicked off. Well done, thumbs up, don't expect me to enjoy this.
