Re: Kaidan and friends...I keep thinking that Kaidan has to still be in contact with some of the kids he knew in Brain Camp. They suffered with him, watched him kill someone in defense of one of them. Yeah, some would have bailed/been scared/whatever, but for others it would have strengthened the bond. A survivor's club of sorts.

It's very plausible that he is. He doesn't really say much about it after he tells you the Vyrnnus story and the fallout. Just that he went off and got himself together before enlisting.

Of course, all the survivors would be L2s, so it's possible there aren't many left for him to be in contact with too.

How come he didn't know the people who were holding that politician captive?  That is what always confuses me.

I think it's a case of that they are all L2s, but the ones holding the politician captive weren't necessarily Brain Camp kids. They don't spell out the total number of humans with biotics, but we can guess that it's probably high enough that not every L2 would necessarily know each other.

Nah... I think it is just plothole.  The writers forgot... it's not a big deal.  Not as big as the we can't go attack Sovereign deal with the Citadel being closed.  The Citadel has a giant donut ring in the back of it.  Just fly around back and go in that way.

Nope... I said Chora's Den.  Ashley yells at him if she is in the party.

Kaidan is a guy after all... he may be professional and polite but he has man feelings like every other straight guy.

Oh I know that, the view bits. He also states however that it is too noisey. He also has comments on Flux.

I take him to be more of a leader type personality. Friendly and social, but aloof in the sense he is an officer. When he talks about BAAT he talks like he was friendly with all the kids, even Rahna, but I got the impression he was a ringleader of sorts. Especially if Vyrnnus singled him out/he stood up to him...vice versa.

It was more like Rahna was a ringleader of sorts (although I do not know exactly what you mean with that), in my opinion. As he tells it, Rahna was the center of things. So, even more parallels with FemShep are existing.

/just my interpretation

And if it went farther, you would have been okay with it?

Okay I have a question along these lines... If Kaidan had talked to the squad members durning the two years that Shepard was dead, then why didn't any of them talk to her about him It was kind of obvious she was looking for him... and for that matter, who were these "friends" that he is talking about, he was always solitary before....

I don't mind that he went on a date while Shepard was dead, and I wouldn't mind if it had gone further.  Two years is long enough to grieve, I wouldn't want to punish the poor guy forever for losing Shepard.  I WOULD mind having to "fight" with the Citadel doctor for Kaidan's affection in ME3, and I don't really want to see her.  I have no interest in the past lovers of whomever I'm with, that path leads to craziness.

As for your other questions; we don't know if Kaidan had talked to the squadmates, he may have wanted to keep their relationship private, and we don't know if he still blames Joker for what happened.  And from my own experience as being pretty reserved in real life, but having a few close friends, I can see Kaidan being the same way.  I've never had a huge group of friends, but the few people I do get close to, I value very much.

i always took kaidan to be reserved in a personal setting until he was comfortable with you. then he showed more of an outgoing personality. leading him to strike up a few close friendships along the way. at least that's my take on his character.

No, the big hole is a solid plate of Reaper-proof glass.  Or it's the relay itself and Saren would have gotten run over by the rest of the crew it he'd been in the way.  Plot hole fixed. :wizard:

I'm going to go with Sapphy on this one.  Kaidan does say to them at one point, "I'm an L2, like you."  So my assumption was always that they were simply a group that Kaidan didn't know.  Not all that implausible, really.

My take on the Normandy crew and friendships, at least for my fic writing is that they were brought together by Anderson to crew the Alliance's most advanced ship. Some of them may have worked together before, like Chakwas and Anderson for instance. I sort of have Shepard joining the Normandy at the last minute. I think Kaidan, as head of the marine detail, would have taken a new, exciteable soldier like Jenkins under his wing. I see Kaidan as having a small circle of friends, not necessarily serving with him on the Normandy. I can see some of them being stationed on the Citadel after Sovereign purely beause the Alliance would have a stronger presence there after the attack. Going by their reactions to the Citadel when they first go there after Eden Prime I'm presuming that neither Shepard, Ash, or Kaidan have been there before. Given that he has a number of special commendations and has never lost any of his squad i think he would have the respect of most of the people that have served with him. He's reserved, but I think he lets go a bit once he feels comfortable with someone, although he says himself that he might need to loosen up a bit, so I don't think any of his friends really know the true Kaidan.

I think its fair that he went on a date after 2 years but I'm pretty sure it was only drinks and nothing else. He would have to feel some sort of connection before taking it further, although he is a male so I can understand his appreciation of the dancers in Chora's Den and the extranet fetish sites, lol. I am hoping that we don't have the Citadel doctor shoved in our faces in ME3 though, and if it turns out to be Dr Michel I will seriously question his judgement. but I really don't want to know who the Citadel doctor is, she can remain a mystery and a dim memory in my ME universe.

I honestly never felt any ill will towards Rahna. I just equated her spurning of Kaidan as her loss.

Me too.

Hell, I don't even have reason to hate the Citadel doctor. It's not her fault that she was set up with him for a casual date.

QFT.  I'm sure we can all agree that the doctor has excellent taste.  It's simply too bad she's up against someone as awesome as Shepard.  Face it, the girl doesn't stand a chance.

BTW - Hi all.  It's been quite a while since I've been able to check in, so I hope everyone is doing well.

That actually broke through my bad mood and made me laugh.  Sheploo's dance moves really suck, lmao.

My favorite part is when the Asari dances away from him.  Why in a bad mood?  Here... have some missing music from ME2... it starts at 5:32 (it was in some of last years E3 trailer)

Here's my take on Kaidan.

I am a firm believer that the doctor never got past casual. If there had been potential for more, it ended the moment he learned Shep was alive. The email indicates that the date was recent, and he would have to be a bit more involved than a couple of dates for drinks to get that intimate with her. I'm not a believer that he has to be in love with every woman he sleeps with, but I believe he has to care and want to see where things could go in order to take that step.

I don't think Kaidan would have kept in touch with most of the crew from the SR-1, even if he could have. He strikes me as the kind who would close himself off from memories associated with Shepard as much as possible. That would be anyone from her former squad and crew.

As far as the "friends" thing, he was solitary on the SR-1 because that's all we ever saw of him. I doubt very seriously he's that much of a lone wolf. He likely still has friends from Basic, any of the schools the Alliance put him through, and not to mention from the several tours he already has. There are countless amount of people that he could know that we don't ever see because it's not relevant to the ME story.

i agree. with all of that.

so yeah, i'm gonna quote sapphy and say 'yup"

evening all. you move fast. that was 12 pages waiting for me.

off to write. this next chapter just can't seem to decide if it's going to be sweet and fluffy or aggressively smutty. i guess i'll go ask the cast to figure it out....

Yeah, the asari's moves weren't much better than Shep's though, lol.  Bad mood is a periodic thing and a combination of RL, hormonal teenage sons, and an unco-operative muse.
I love Heart of Courage - that music made the game trailer so damn awesome.

Revelation! The "citadel doctor" who Kaidan dated is actually Chloe Michel! *gulp* O.O

...If that actually happened then I don't know how I'd react. I'm sure the good doctor wouldn't do such a thing knowing Shepard however. Likely it was just some random girl, it would be... interesting to see her in ME3.

You know who I'd honestly prefer to meet though? Rana. It would be cool if in ME3 each squaddie had their own story-related character who you could meet in the game. E.g. Kaidan = Rana, Ashley = One of her sisters, Miranda = Dad.
