Reading fics at work is the best! Well, while dodging the boss and getting some work done in between so I appear to be busy...hehe. Morning all, really enjoying all the fics. Excellent writing!

I honestly never felt any ill will towards Rahna. I just equated her spurning of Kaidan as her loss.
Me too.
Hell, I don't even have reason to hate the Citadel doctor. It's not her fault that she was set up with him for a casual date.
And if it went farther, you would have been okay with it?
Okay I have a question along these lines... If Kaidan had talked to the squad members durning the two years that Shepard was dead, then why didn't any of them talk to her about him It was kind of obvious she was looking for him... and for that matter, who were these "friends" that he is talking about, he was always solitary before....
Okay take it and put me in my place
That's why I want to start dealing with this new idea I've been having, there are many background questions being left unaswered and I need an answer. So, maybe the Muse will enlighten me, and me you in turn, hopefully. I hate unclear areas...

I don't mind that he went on a date while Shepard was dead, and I wouldn't mind if it had gone further. Two years is long enough to grieve, I wouldn't want to punish the poor guy forever for losing Shepard. I WOULD mind having to "fight" with the Citadel doctor for Kaidan's affection in ME3, and I don't really want to see her. I have no interest in the past lovers of whomever I'm with, that path leads to craziness.
As for your other questions; we don't know if Kaidan had talked to the squadmates, he may have wanted to keep their relationship private, and we don't know if he still blames Joker for what happened. And from my own experience as being pretty reserved in real life, but having a few close friends, I can see Kaidan being the same way. I've never had a huge group of friends, but the few people I do get close to, I value very much.
I am extremely competitve in my real life and I don't take kindly to antagonism and opposission, The citadel doctor and rhana would have a bucket of hurt and handful in their hands if i were shepard and we ever came eye to eye. fullstop. there's no other woman but me in my man's life when i'm present. i don't mind what he did way back when, but when i'm around, i'm exclusive.
i like the plot hook of Kaidan blaming Joker for the Shepard's death. i think i'll use this.

I doubt that Kaidan met Dr. Michel and I guess you can´t blame him, that he was seeing another woman... Shepard was dead in his believe...
Maybe Kaidan didn´t really talk to the other Squadmembers about his feelings. He is not the type of person who opens up easy to others. It could be possible, that he just retreated himself from everyone else of the old crew. Joker mentioned that the crew fell apart, after Shepards death...
The friends, he was writing about in his Email, might be old friends from the time before Normandy... at least my guess...

Now this is why avoid fan fiction. It sometimes gives you "wrong" impression and you start to ascribe ceratin character traits to the character you like. It is quite natural thou, but I still prefer to follow the original plots, storylines and characters.

That's why it's fan facition though. As the author, you are allowed to give your own personal take and interpretation. It's what is intended. As I'm only the reader, I can't say why the author is ascribing those traits to the character, other than that's how it seemed to them. I may not agree with it from my own interpretation, but so long as the author does a compellig job in their writing, I can be made to see it for their story.
In my stories, the #1 thing I try to remind myself of when writing Kaidan is that he is a marine.

@AkodoRyu Yeah as I said, that's the impression I've gotten from the two games, I haven't read any novels or what not that's in the middle and definitely won't, cause I find it a cheap franchise trick, so I'm sticking to the impression the games have made. And that impression was there to begin with in ME1, and was heavily reinforced with the meeting on Horizon in ME2. I don't much get the "wrong"-ness you're referring too, cause I haven't read any fanfiction as of yet, not from the KAAS and not on that subject. So, maybe you're just saying your pov from the games is correct and mine is wrong? I think that would be a foollish claim, and vice versa. It is most certain that I will unearth that pov in my work, so I'm reckoning you won't be a fan, when I do. I'll keep it in mind, and let you know
@sapphyreelf I try to look at a person in three layers, what they are, why they are that, and what they do with it, before beginning to analyze deeper. You get a good idea, for example, about who Kaidan is if you start by saying: he's a marine, why is he a marine, and what does being a marine mean to/for him, there's lots of personality material there already, without having to go much deeper. I do, sometimes, but only if I think it's necessary.

@Oct: Believe me that I know what you are saying. As at least Sia can tell you, there's alot more than "Kaidan's a marine" that goes into my characterization of him, but to sum it up briefly for others, that simple statement keeps what I find to be an appropriate frame of mind for him. (Also as an aside, I believe only the ME comic deals anything with the Shepard story, and that deals with effectively the transition from ME1 to ME2 without dealing with any character other than Liara. The novels I believe are both pre-ME1 books, with Saren and Anderson really the only characters from ME1 to appear in the books.)
I am dead against that Star Wars type franchise scheme. I hated it when they started doing it with Star Wars, I hated it even more when Blizzard started doing that with WoW and especially for things that impact ingame, and I won't ever fall for it, it's a promise I've made to myself. But I realise that money talks (usually mine only says goodbye though). Anyway. I'll wiki what I am missing when I find it missing, I suppose.

Hey I didn't mean to start a war, I was just trying to get the thread back on topic...Sorry!
I read fan fic because I like to see others view of the ME world and characters. I don't care if it's canon, I don't care if it's off canon, I don't care if it's A/U. Entertain me is all I ask.
If you don't want to read my fan fics that's okay, since I write them for me anyway and was really surprised that anyone liked them. I like them and that's what matters. If you don't like fan fics its okay not to read them, there are other people out there who will read them.
We're all here because we love the game & the character -Kaidan! Thank you everyone for sharing your lives with me! I love it!
Carry on!
