oh goodness, don't tell a Marine he's just like regular-Army.   
But yes, the fondness for military men (in uniform!) is prevalent.  And quite reasonable, imho.

It's the walk like they know a 1001 ways to disassemble a person with their bare hands.  Unfortunately, it doesn't cross over well into pixels.  But Shepard, Kaidan, and Ashley should have all moved a certain way.  It can't be captured in a game due the limits of animation, I'll acknowledge that, but the fic writers should be aware of it.

What, you mean like they have good posture and don't walk hunched over like a starving person protecting a bowl of gruel?  <_<  They had the same problem with DA--the PCs walk like no living person, arms akimbo and head down.  I don't know who their model was but they should have taken one look at the results and found someone else.

At least there's usually enough else to look at that I can ignore Shep and her galumphing.

For me, it's the do-good aspect, it's mental really, protector of innocents, keeper of peace, same reason i totally fall for paladins in fantasy games too. Plus usually the uniform is tight round the arse...

I believe that about as much as anyone would believe I was talking about personality layers rather than clothes up there...

And, tight shirts are nice too...



eta: @Oct: Though in all seriousness, the hero/do-gooder aspect is a huge part of the appeal as well.

Almost everyone finds soldiers, cops... appealing, one friend told me that she had found her little sister kissing a pillow and saying "kiss me cop, kiss me". She was like 7 years old.

Forget layers.  I was raised around flyboys.  Gimme a guy in a well-fitted flight suit anyday.    But a good-looking guy with a great embouchure?  Bonus!
