I'm not saying that it's not doable or impractical.

I'm saying that I don't see any evidence that they care that much to put the effort into it to include the Virmire survivor in a Liara-focused dlc. Simply put, the Virmire survivors aren't popular characters. They'll make what sells.

It's not that they aren't popular characters, but the whole forced Virmire death choice essentially turned them into the squadmate version of Sentinel MaleShep/Soldier FemShep. After Virmire, a lot of their lines outside the 1-on-1 chats with Shepard are similar the same way MaleShep/FemShep are.

It gets even more obvious in ME2 when either of them end up with the same job of being on Horizon and have nearly the same dialogue as each other.

Thus, I'd say Kaidan/Ashley are just as important as Shepard himself/herself, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have very similar dialogue in ME3. Liara saved Shepard's life, but Kaidan/Ashley may be the key to saving Shepard's reputation.

Or they'll die in the end to save Shepard's life or something "emotionally engaging" like that.

But using almost identical lines for the two characters like they did in ME2? That was an incredibly low blow, given that the characters are complete opposites of each other. But given that the devs seem to think that lots of people didn't care for Kaidan, it won't matter too much to them.

Ah, pessimism springs eternal :wizard:

@Batteries - Hell I wouldn't mind a more indepth look into Thane or Samara. Like taking Samara back into Asari space or something like that. But yea Garrus and Tali would be awesome.

@fortunesque - Or they will kill off all of Shepard's team and everything as the Ultimate Sacrifice after they kill the reapers.

A Garrus one would be cool if it took place during his archangel saga. Plus playing as a Turian would be interesting.

Well, apparently they're both Alliance, so that's identical enough. Like Paragon/Renegade MaleShep/FemShep - they have different views, but they get the same things done in the end.

:P

I don't see how they'd have to die in order to save Shepard's life - like I mentioned, it's Shepard's reputation that is at stake right now. If they died while trying to save that, it wouldn't look good to the Council or the Alliance.

@Batteries - That would be interesting. What would be even more so is getting an inside look at what happened the last two years with all the other surviving crew of the Normandy...like that could be a Book!

@Nightodie - sweetheart, I got all the chapters up to chapter 7 finished. :D Just checking the grammar on my chapter I'm about to post.

i have to agree with ecael.

i don't think they'll die. that would just be complete overkill - quite literally - to make the virmire survivor die. i think the virmire survivor is more in danger of becoming side-lined as a "buddy" role in ME3 with some nods to a romance if you did an import LI. i imagine what they will do will not be nearly as much romance as *I* am hoping for, but hey, as long as it's there somewhere, i'll content myself with it.

and fanfic. (like i said, rainy day. my plans got cancelled)

Based on ME2 I'm not expecting much from ME3 on the way of stuff that I'll like, including characters, gamplay, plot and story...

My impressions of both of the games, using Kaidans:

ME1:

I have a migraine.

I can't stop playing!
Posted Image
Every time I blink, I see explosions in my field of vision. The Presidium is so white and it hurts my eyes.

I'm an addict.

ME2:

I just... There are no words.

I don't like this. I'm going to bed.

I'm sure every teammate you will have in Mass Effect 3 will be able to die one way or another. I bet even people like Joker and Captain Anderson might be able to croak too.
I'm also going to assume people like Kaidan/Ashley may or may ot be able to become a teammate/permanent teammate.
This is just my wishful un-pessimist thinking. :o

I'm also 85% sure one of the endings will involve the Reapers winning and blowing stuff up. Maybe they discover tea and apple cream pie in the process.

If she gets knocked out in the fight, you can see her whole freaking set. It's a disservice to her character... kind of like Kaidan using an AR.

I don't think Jacob taking his shirt off for his romance is equal to being able to see most of Miranda's genitals XD

Indeed. Even the DLC does have sort of happy endings. Which is a good thing, in my opinion. And I'm fine with everyone being able to die in 3, as long as you can also work on it so no one (or at least no one important) dies. But I think we don't have to worry about the possibility of a 'good ending', I think there will be at least one.

Holy crap that put me into an epic laughing rage

But no I didn't mean text ending, but how there's multiple different ones; Anora marries Alistair, Alistair stays a Warden and Anora rules, Alistair rules alone ect ect.

From the Overlord Trailer...

Instead of worrying about ME3, as I'm as pessimistic as any of you, I worked on Chapter 3 of The Swing of Things. No fluff, no Shep, but a few familiar faces...in tuxes, with Kaidan. Next up? Birthday time!

What about Samara's permanent wedgie... that is a disservice to her character.

(She and Morinth are my favorite characters in ME2)
