The Tali romance is like a highschoool student graduating then turning 18 then turning around to date her hot biology teacher. It's not illegal, but it's very socially unacceptable because one wonders what they secretly did when she was in highschool.

It makes sense that the girls are winning - since more males are probably voting!

And let's face it -- Talimancers!

That calls for a Kaidan - can someone assist me, I am on the iPhone :(

Even outside the forums Tali wins.
Kiadan, too?
First time I saw someone spell it like that more than once.

Tali wins because... I don't really know what to say about that.  I honestly think the romance with Tali is a bit disturbing.  I've posted this before... but Tali went from being a kid (like 16 or 17) in ME1 to being 24 in ME2.  That means she aged 7 or 8 years in a 2 year time period.  Talimancers creep me out because of this.   They wanted to romance a teenage girl so much that Bioware gave in and had to change her age in the second one so that they wouldn't be get any flack about such a young romance.  I'm dissapointed in Bioware because of this.  It is pedophilia in a videogame.

I can see where you are coming from, but 16 is 'legal', in the UK so essentially it isn't a law breaking thing, it is however a bit weird given Shepard's age, like Monica said in Friends ''It's Icky''! It's a bit near the knuckle regarding adult relationships, certainly.....

Ok... but EA (Biowares parent company) is in California.  In the United States a 29 year old man romancing a 16/17 year old girl is considered wrong.

It does become a double standard though, if a girl is 16 obsessing over a 29 year old male.
But that's dismissed as puppy love or just a crush. Because most guys their own age have their head up their ass anyway. XD
If it's a guy, that's usually just plain creepy.

Anyway, back to the Kaidan...

I ought to have the next chapter of Only By a Few Seconds out soon. I just have to wrap up a scene with Liara and Shepard and it should be good to go :)

Well it isn't considered 'right', here either, my point was only that if she was 16 in 1 she'd be 18 in 2 (which is the 'age of majority', here)  and therefore  all bets are off. FWIW I generally agree with you, I just don't think it is paedophilia iyswim? My aunt was 15 years younger than my uncle and they were married for 40 years (until she died) So it is more about maturity imo, and Tali is very naive and immature in many ways.....

First -- I get a bit creeped out by the Tali romance (and by Twilight parents who go crazy over the 20-something stars, but that's a different topic!)

Just want to point out there's a difference between what people may consider morally wrong and the law.  In the U.S. and in California, the law has many many variables.  Under California law,  29 year old who sleeps with a 16/17 year old can be prosecuted for statutory rape. However, cops don't go out looking for it and it would be up to the person or parents to file charges.  Interestingly enough, age 16/17 is considered to be an age of consent  in California so if the 16/17 year old talks to an M.D./psychologist/therapist it's up to that person's clinical judgment to determine whether the smex was consensual.  If it is - no reporting is mandated.  However, if the person is 15 or under then all bets are off and it would be a mandated report of sex abuse.     Just sayin'...

I live afew hours away from Bakersfield. Went through it went we went to a from Vegas, felt like we were in it forever both times. :P

I don't know why people always say they want to come to California and actually LIVE here, especially in places like LA. I think LA is the only thing people think of when they think California when they don't know any better.

So I'm guessing Fresno or near Paso Robles... close?  When I got my first college degree I went to college up in the Napa Valley.  Northern Calironia is beautiful.  When I finish with my second degree I'm planning on moving up near there again.

@NICK - I live in the Bay Area and grew up in a small town about 120 miles north of SF.    I always think of Bakersfield as the last gasp of civilization (and gas) before one heads over the Tehachpis!

I had a friend who knew the age of consent for every state by memory. If I didn't know him as well as I did, I'd be worried.

I go with the half + 7 rule. Any relationship is creepy if it doesn't meet this simple formula.

An 18 year old can date a 16 year old without it being creepy. Illegal perhaps, but not creepy.

A 30 year old can date a 22 year old without it being creepy. Doubting Tali is 22 years old, but I'm sure some Talimancers will claim the pilgrimage is done at 20 years of age if it makes them feel better.

A 60 year old can date a 37 year old. Younger is cradle robbing.

Okay, the system might not be perfect, but I run with it anyway.

Yeah, that is close enough.
I loved Northnern Cali when we visit my grandparents up there. It's always cold and cloudy, much preferred over hot and dry during the summer.
Rocky beaches > beaches that people vacation to, in my books.

I think as far as traumatized childhoods are concerned, Jack's experience takes the cake.

But back to Kaidan, he did spend his teen years away from his family. Essentially, he left home as a child and came back as an adult. His family probably didn't understand him though they probably tried to. The picture I get is a very lonely, depressed older teen.

Yeah, I can totally see why he dropped of the grid in between BAaT and his 'return' to the Alliance. Also why he probably doesn't want to talk about that period much. Having killed someone and being different in a disturbing way (or that is probably what most humans thought at that point anyway). Not an easy background. But he is pretty good in self reflection, I think. Probably got him through. That, or I'm projecting and filling in too many blanks here ;)

No, I think you're right.  Kaidan does seem to me to be the sort that is very introspective.  Still, though, I don't think he came out of the experience completely unchanged.  Shepard even has the option to point this out to him.  I love that conversation because to me it just says so much about his personality.

To be fair... some parts of California are not a nice as others.  Where I live (the central valley) it is hot, really hot, during th summer and cold, really cold, during the winter.  The California coast and the California Sierra's are very nice though.

It's true, the middle of California - all the way up and down the state - is desert. Some of it's been converted to farmland thanks to a series of canals but it's still hot and dusty.  I live in an area of the SF Bay delta so it gets hot (it's already over 90 degrees outside atm) but there are a lot more trees.  Northern California just inland from the coast (I'm thinking of the route up 101, Nick) is also lovely -- hot and a little dryer but lots of redwoods as you move up into the mountains.

Pretty much what he said. Doesn't get cold enough to snow, last time it snowed here was 12 or 13 years ago, but cold enough to have a nice layer of frost in the mornings.
Heat that can stay in the 100s for a week or more.
Vacation spots are too crowded in the summer.
Oh, and I'll be damned if half the population knew english. B)

What I do wonder is what made him go to the Alliance. Something had to happen that made him go there.

My thought was always that after a few years of self-reflection, Kaidan concluded that since he was stuck with these biotic talents, he may as well use them to do some good.  Plus, there's his comment that "we're not restricted but we sure as hell don't go undocumented."  I kind of took that to mean that a lot of ordinary people are fearful and suspicious of biotics and so it's difficult for a biotic to fit in in normal society.  I think the codex in ME1 says something to that effect as well.  So given the choice between trying to hold down a job in an environment where everyone is just as afraid of him as Rahna was after he killed Vyrnnus or going into the military where biotics are welcomed with open arms and generous paychecks, he chose the latter.
