Northern California beaches are the most beautiful... that and the Redwoods.

I fell asleep both there and back going through the Redwoods. <_<

Here's a "Top of the Page Kaidan"

SoCal FTW.  But as much as I love my home state, this is supposed to be a thread about Kaidan, not California :)

So... how about that Kaidan?

What I do wonder is what made him go to the Alliance. Something had to happen that made him go there.

My thought was always that after a few years of self-reflection, Kaidan concluded that since he was stuck with these biotic talents, he may as well use them to do some good.  Plus, there's his comment that "we're not restricted but we sure as hell don't go undocumented."  I kind of took that to mean that a lot of ordinary people are fearful and suspicious of biotics and so it's difficult for a biotic to fit in in normal society.  I think the codex in ME1 says something to that effect as well.  So given the choice between trying to hold down a job in an environment where everyone is just as afraid of him as Rahna was after he killed Vyrnnus or going into the military where biotics are welcomed with open arms and generous paychecks, he chose the latter.

I agree with this. I think he choose the Alliance because it seemed like his best option. From there, it probably changed into something he felt strongly about; Kaidan could finally use his biotics to try to do something good.

To be fair... some parts of California are not a nice as others.  Where I live (the central valley) it is hot, really hot, during th summer and cold, really cold, during the winter.  The California coast and the California Sierra's are very nice though.

This....................................... <_< Is my *not convinced* OK? :P ;)

No. Never.

That chapter of his life is over; Kaidan is over it so hopefully the writers are too.

The microclimates of California amuse me. Live in the Marin Headlands where it's 60 degrees and foggy and then travel 20 miles up 101 and it's 90 degrees and nothing but sun.

ETA: But it's a dry heat... :P

It's true, the middle of California - all the way up and down the state - is desert. Some of it's been converted to farmland thanks to a series of canals but it's still hot and dusty.  I live in an area of the SF Bay delta so it gets hot (it's already over 90 degrees outside atm) but there are a lot more trees.  Northern California just inland from the coast (I'm thinking of the route up 101, Nick) is also lovely -- hot and a little dryer but lots of redwoods as you move up into the mountains.

It is not far off that here atm, Eastbourne has a fairly temperate climate compared to most of the UK! :D I bet Kaidan prefers winter and big fireplaces, I don't see him in shorts on the beach ;)

"Commander! I got news from one of my sources that a biotic woman was kidnapped and being used and tortured for her skills! I think it may be Rahna! WE HAVE TO STOP THE SHIP NOW AND SAVE HER." :o

That is exactly why I said it too.:police:

I'm with you on that one.  If Kaidan has a loyalty mission I'd rather it have to do with convincing him that you're loyal to the Alliance, not Cerberus.  Given what a sticking point Cerberus was with him on Horizon (no matter how much of that was simply an excuse to keep him off the squad) I can see some lingering issues there.

I don't see the need to do loyalty missions for LI's.

Maybe, but we did in 2 so if they're going to keep the loyalty mechanic in 3, it's not outside the realm of possibility that they would give Kaidan a loyalty mission.

I would love to see this in ME3.

Kaidan: Shepard I need to talk to you!
Shepard: Ok.. shoot.
Kaidan: I know that you know that I love you but I will only love you if you go and do this mission with me.
Shepard:

It wouldn't need to be classed as a loyalty mission, just something Shepard would do for a lover or a friend.... :-)

I don't like the idea of loyalty missions to begin with. Sidequests, yes... but not a mission that you must complete or the character will lose all semblance of focus and mess the mission up.

I'd think that Ash and Kaidan would be very capable of stowing their issues and doing their job properly.

Well, okay, you might have a point in that with the ME2 LIs your relationship is just getting started, so it's different than it would be in Kaidan's case where there's an already-established relationship and history.  But knowing Bioware, if they want to give Kaidan a loyalty mission, they will, regardless.  I think it's especially likely since Kaidan, Ash, and Liara were the three that did not have personal sidequests in ME1.

But Kaidan's sidequest had better not have anything to do with BAaT and/or Rahna because that would spoil the point in ME1 that he's practically the only male LI in Bioware games that doesn't have issues of some sort.

Maybe we can take Kaidan to kick TIM's butt as a loyalty mission at the beginning of ME3.

I agree; I think that's one of the things that most bothered me about the loyalty missions in ME2.
