After reading some of Kasumi's dialogue, I know think that every crewmate/squadmate has a crush on Shepard.

I don't think it's so much that some love interests had previous relationships or attractions, but more so that they talk about them and how they talk about them. Kaidan is a good example of how to do them right, IMO. He talks about her but nothing major going on there. He had a crush on her - which is fine. That's basically how far it went.

For examples of what may not be so good, I would take Thane for example - he basically says that his dead wife had perfect "sunset colored eyes" and other similarly divine features. It's good that he was happy with his wife, but listening to how great Thane's dead wife is may not be compelling to all players.

There's also that recurring estranged/dead child thing that's been done 3 times in Bioware male love interest romances.

I don't think we should compare the BW games to each other. But that's just my personal opinion.

Personal also, I didn't see Thane as talking too much about his dead wife. He was talking about his job when she flashed in. And I kept asking about it to learn more. I never got the feeling that it was too much talk about her. Also, the sunset coloured eyes - I saw them as a description of the situation itself, how he was focused on doing his job and then this person threw herself in the line of fire out of nowhere and that he could see the sunset reflecting in her eyes which got him. Just like Shep is getting him by being the way she is. And regarding his son, I find it amazing how much he cares for him although he is an assassin and it makes Thane even more of an interesting character for me.

All in all, I do think that there is some deep psychology in all this. Kaidan for example is someone we just have to win over. Since Rhana was a long time ago and just a teenage crush that never turned serious, all we have to do is make him love Shep and that's it. Thane on the other hand, has had this TRUE love thing before and while it may be not compelling for many players to go there and show Thane that he can have this true love a second time, it is as tempting for players like me to actually do EXACTLY that. Not the "hey I am better than your dead wife and I wanna replace her" way but the "true love can happen more than once" way. And of course, choosing this road with Thane is a lot harder since every woman in Shep's situation will always have this slight doubt deep inside her if he is really happy with her and loves her as much or if he is just trying to forget his dead wife or whatever, you know? At least, that's how this entire situation appeared to me.

^I pretty much agree on that about Thane. Even when he cried, just like with Jack, I certainly wasn't prepared for that.
I also forgot to add to my list that he is dying too >.>
I'm sure plot will not allow that when ME3 rolls around.

Personally Garrus is my favorite ME2 LI, even though at first it just seemed like a thrill to be with another species and fling between friends to both him and Shep. (Kinda creepy for me)
Later on, he starts to seem like he shows a lot more genuine feelings for her. I mean he changes his clothes and brings wine, what other LI does that? XD
I think he always had a small suppressed crush on Shep, just like Tali if you were male.

Creepiest thing about it at first was after the game, when I first noticed that PC that said "Call Garrus Up", walked by the bed and the A button flashed up.
Cuddling was funny and a bit cute but the movements scared me o.O
"Press A to continue" nearly gave me a heart attack.

Reminds me of the gym teacher at school, everyone fancies him, kids, teachers..... hell I've even heard parents at parents evening talking about how sexy he is!  Shep must be like that

I always saw Thane's crying was more as what he said it was....that he was just ashamed. He had come to peace with the fact that he would die and now Shep had given him a reason to think about this and the fact, that he now would want more time to spend with her and actually doesn't want to die, ashames him. I think he is a man full of pride. I adore him! Ugh, I'll keep playing the other FemShep I just created, just to romance him. ^^

Tali was HINTING at my main FemShep as well :o:o:o:o was I the only one to get that? She was so hitting on my Shep, it wasn't even funny anymore.
Garrus was just my buddy although I do believe too, that he has DEEP feelings for her.

Tali seemed more like she was saying how much she trusted you from a quarian pov but got embarrassed. I'd need to hear the dialogue again.

Garrus' feelings can either be interpreted as a very strong friendship and stay so or turn into more romantic feelings depending how you play.

Both him and Tali are my close buddies with my main Shep. Maybe if the same characters are LI in the third game along with the ME1 crew, my Shepard might finally give into one of them. Slight chance, but it could happen!

No I thought that too at the time. At first I was really suprised and then the more I thought about it, I was suprised that they'd hinted at it without putting in a F/F Tali romance *shrug* 

I've always thought Tali's interest was more hero worship than love anyway so it shouldn't be suprising that she has similar feelings for a femShep whether or not her character was written as bi.

About Thane, you have some good points. I didn't do the Thane romance myself but I thought perhaps that I may have not had Thane talk about his wife the way he did. Clearly many love his romance, so I don't mean to say it's really an issue.

Jacob's romance was definitely weird, to say the least. F!Shepard transforms into a different person while talking to him. It's definitely jarring. I have no idea what the voice directors were thinking there. And his romance scene is just plain awful.

Yeah, that could be like this... We had a teacher like that, too *giggles*
@ Jane: I loved Thane´s story and he would have been the right one for my femshep, if she weren´t so bad in love with Kaidan...
@ Batt: I saw the romance with Garrus on Youtube... And I thaught it was really cute... But for my femshep he´s her best friend, especially since Wrex  isn´t around anymore...

This!  Although you missed Garrus saying 'Why not I respect you ....' can't remember exact words but I do remember thinking WTF?!  I'm telling you I want to sleep with you and you respect me?!  So much for love and the Thane dying thing just leaves me thinking would he really fall for Shep if he had longer to live?  *shrug* just MO.

If anything, the only romance that *may* have been hero worship would be Liara's, due to the fact that she's attracted to Shepard from the start and the romance starts extremely quickly.



Tali has been with Shepard for both games and she has the most ways of her romance even not starting or being terminated.



Her romance will never begin if you don't do her loyalty mission or youreveal the evidence at her trial, nor will it continue if you side with Legion in the fight. Had her romance simply been hero worship, I doubt there would be so many variables as to whether romance starts or not.



I don't mean to go so off topic though - so I apologize. Just wanted to share my opinion about that.

It's just the way I saw it based on the stuff she says and the way she acts towards Shep, for example when she's on the video diary thingie and says 'I keep thinking what would Shep do?' (or words to that effect) but it's the way she says it etc.  

As I said, my opinion, it's based on more than one instance in the game and is as much about the way things are delivered than just the words themselves, but that's the one that springs to mind.  No offense intended to anyone who loves that romance just the way I see it through my Kaidan obsessed specs .

I'm fairly certain that she said "this is what Shepard did..." instead. About the mining laser used on Therum. Not quite the same as that.
