I've tried to figure out why they make most of the LI's carry some sort of baggage. Kaidan, Allistair (hope I spelled that right) and Garrus being the exception. I've never played Baldurs Gate or Neverwinter Knights so I can't speak on those. I do wonder if they think that the female pc's will be more attracted to them if they have that baggage.

Since I only usually play as female pc's because, there aren't many games that allow you to do that, I was wondering do the male LI's come with any baggage?

BG and NWN have LIs with similar  baggage.  As someone (Batteries? Sage?) said earlier, in NWN1, the LI, Aerin Gend's former lover betrayed NW and him so he killed her, in NWN2 Casavir had a romance tragedy with Ophala (this was cut), BG1 had no real romance,  in BG2 Anomen hadn't had a bad romance but was at odds with his father who is an alcoholic and allegedly killed his mother so you get to help him sort through his father issues.

I guess BW hasn't been able to come up with any other reason for women to fall in love with their male counterparts. Hmmm...maybe the writers have a Mommy fixation (mom fixes all!  lol).

I'm back (was home a while ago, but been busy) Hello everyone who is on atm :-)

Good news is my daughter was offered a place at college today, so she is really excited now! (I'm so proud as her and her older brother were home schooled by me) :-)

I had a playthrough that was to experience the ME2 romance and initially I thought I was going to like Jacob he is honourable and defends Shep to Miranda but it just doesn't deliver (and that weird voice femshep uses.... :/ ) So I went for Thane and he is compelling I agree, Jane that he is proud and his tears are loss of the future he now sees he could have. He's no Kaidan though........... ;-)

I couldn't bring myself to do a playthrough just for the romances. The FemShep "Jacob" voice turned me off when I found myself traveling down that path (accidentally) and after I watched the romance outcomes on YouTube, I decided I was definitely not interested in playing it through. Although I do like Thane and Garrus as characters and like their backstories.

i must admit, the romance i think really depends on the shep.



i had a spacer sole survivor soldier who virmired kaidan (blasphemy!) and she seemed a good fit for garrus. the two of them just really seemed to have a lot in common and she felt very jaded to me, so garrus seemed to fit her much better than kaidan for some reason.



however - i just couldn't get in to playing that shep and so never finished the playthrough. my main "discovered" the kaidan romance the next time through and that's really all i have any interest in playing. but i can imagine sheps for whom thane/garrus would be a good fit and a very sweet love.



still can't picture a fit for jacob though. sorry, but that "she needs a better man than i" line. SO was there as an ego boost to the men playing the game and romancing miri. seriously, if she needs a better man that you, so does shep. none of my sheps take miri's self-avowed leftovers. ugh.

non, of my femsheps could do it either, they just hope to get Kaidan back...
Like I wrote Thane could´ve been a possibilty... and Garrus is a real close friend ...

I think I know a team that can pull it off. There is this guy named Nate... I am going to have a talk with him... he will be on the Night's side... He knows Phoenix.

Anyway -- I agree that the romance depends upon the Shep.

I had a earthborn solesurvivor sentinel who didn't virmire Kaidan but didn't romance him either. She wasn't into anything long term or permanent and figured that's what he'd want so she wasn't interested. She didn't romance anyone that game.  I didn't bring her forward into ME2 but if I did, I think Thane would be a good fit for her. Their pasts as loners to some extent would appeal to her (although she would see his marriage as proof of why she avoids long term relationships) and the fact that he's dying would also allow her to go into a relationship since it couldn't possible last long.

Jacob?  No.  Just no.

like night, i, personally, fail to see the appeal of thane, lips or no. however, others fail to see the appeal of kaidan. so that's fine. i can see the appeal from shep's pov, however.

Thane is a great character and he just makes my Shepard want to comfort him, but like I wrote before... There´s Kaidan and that´s why nothing will happen... I tried to stay away from Kaidan in one playthrough, but I failed ;-), like I wrote before, none of my femsheps could resist these brown eyes and this smile *sighs*

I think he probably had a naturally reserved personality, but BAaT certainly reinforced it to the nth degree.
4) Do you think he kept in contact or has met anyone from BAaT after its closure?
I think they're probably all vaguely aware of each other, but I doubt any of them really want to spend time dwelling on their experiences, so they don't stay actively in touch.  Too many bad memories.
5) What do you think his commendations were before being assigned to the Normandy?
Well, he mentions he's never lost a team-member, so something for that.  Otherwise, I agree w/Jaer, in that he probably got recognized for some good support/intel that saved a more combat oriented squad.
6) In spite of his reservations with Shepard, do you think he's a reasonably outgoing guy with others?
I agree w/Sapphy in this one, in that he's particularly awkward w/Shepard cause she's his CO, not that he's generally excessively awkward w/people or girls in general.  He seems very easy-going, generally.  And he gets along with Joker, who is pretty prickly.
7) What do you think happened between him and Joker after the Normandy SR-1's destruction?
Awkward silence.  Neither wanted to talk about how they think it's their fault Shepard died, and neither wants to talk about the Alliance.  And Joker's definitely avoiding talking about Cerberus.
8) Do you think his current assignments are coming from Admiral/Councilor Anderson?
Adding to the consensus here: yes.
9) Football (Soccer) fan?
Sia FTW:  go Hockey!
11) Do you think his next reunion with Shepard will start with tension or relief?
Both.  Relief, but so much baggage they have to work through.  Which they'll probably just skim, this being an action RPG w/romance side-plots, rather than a book.  Yeah, for more fanfic, at least.
12) What role do you think he'll play in ME3?
Ok, this is gonna sound weird, but I don't think he'll be the Alliance Liaison simply because that's the only thing the forums have thought up that makes sense, and the forums are usually wrong w/their predictions.    So... I'm sure he'll be there, but I have no idea, cause the only thing I can think of is the contact w/the Alliance too.
13) Do you think he's a career Alliance military man, sticking with it until retirement?
He certainly was.  It all depends on how the Alliance deals w/Shepard and the Reapers in ME3.  If they become even more close-minded about it, I think he'll be forced to jump ship, but it'll be a really hard decision for him.
14) Do you think he'd have whatever the future version of a sweet car is?
I doubt it'd be a car, but he'd have some mechanical type non-combat oriented project to work on when he has downtime.  I think he's more likely to be the type who builds his own computer/omnitool to play with, myself.  Especially since vehicles are harder to transport between postings.
15) Do you think he has his favorite childhood stuffed animal hidden away somewhere still?
No.  Maybe a couple books in the bottom of a box.  And his mom has all his baby stuff hidden away, which makes her sad, because she lost touch with her boy when he got taken away to BAaT, and I don't think they ever got as close again.
16) Do you think any biotic powers transfer to the children in some way? (Okay, not really Kaidan-specific, but I always imagined he'd be headed for fatherhood... oh wait, maybe I should have asked...)
I think biotic potential could become a recessive genetic trait, yes, since we have no idea what all eezo exposure actually does to people.  *shrugs*  It's in the realm of possibility, at least.
17) Kaidan: destined for fatherhood?
Depends on the Shep, but he'd be a great dad if they had a settling-down sort-of relationship.  He'd be a great mercenary partner too, if they don't have that sort of vibe though.
18) Do you think that, time permitting, he still calls his mother every Sunday? (I bet he would have written to his mother after being revived from the dead.)
He is very dutiful, I'm sure, and contacts his mother and his siblings regularly, but they're not very close.  And I agree w/whoever it was who thinks he mostly talks to his father through his mother.  Nothing major there, just... distant.  Or otherwise he would've talked about them more in ME1, just like Ashley.
19) Do you think that panel he kept working on in ME1 was the tv?
*snickers*  No.  But I enjoy the silly there.
20) Do you think Kaidan would find an evening at the opera a good time?
I think if the person he was going with liked the opera, he'd enjoy their enjoyment.  He'd have a similar reaction to sports or theatre too.. imho it would all depend on the company, more than the actual event.

Oh, and I am home again, and apparently didn't save the link to the interview where I thought Hudson implied that the cool thing w/the ME1 LI's only kept going if you'd already triggered their romance in the first game rather than it being available in the third game, so I cannot reference it for discussion. I guess we'll all just have to assume I'm crazy and imagined it, unless I can find it again. Sorry.

I'm so happy that I am not the only crazy cat lady. I have 2 kitties. I have to admit I tried all the romances in ME2. I even found a way to make it through the Jacob dialogue. As I said before I know that Shep comes across like a pet in heat (sorry couldn't resist lol) There were 2 things that I did like about the romance 1) He does ask Shep about her feelings. 2) He does tell you he loves you. I know he probably only said it to get in her pants but, it was refreshing to hear none the less.
Garrus is my buddy and I thought the romance was cute. He is kind of adorable when he says that he wants something to go right just once.
Thane is just so complex to me, so I chose him for my single shep. I'm sorry I know some of you guys think that he looks like a lizard, someone in another thread said that he looks like a carp lol. I chose him  for that particular Shep because, I didn't romance Kaidan on that playthrough and I Virmired him (It was the only way to keep me from feeling bad) Anyway I wanted Thane to have someone who cared about him and would miss him when he was gone. 
But all my other Sheps are Pro-Kaidan

i have another FemShep now for ME2, Lana. She looks like Shayenne, cept for the haircolour and she will romance Thane! xD Shayenne will be a Kaidanlady forever!

edit: ps: I have two kittehs as well....two boys and right now they lay strewn across the floor because it's just too hot lol

edit/  I have five cats -- all rescue kitties.  The first four were born in my back yard (feral mom) and I was able to trap and tame them (tamed Mom to some extent too...she lived the remainder of her life -- about another 10 years -- out in my back yard with a comfy kenne alnd everything.  The other one was rescued off the highway.  Part Siamese with beautiful blue eyes.   Yep, I love my kitties!

Jane I was wondering do you have a hard time changing how your fem-shep looks even though she is a different class? All my fem-sheps look alike so that they look cute next to Kaidy-Bear
