As far as dates and ages are concerned, ME2 doesn't mention any dates of when the Teltin facility was destroyed, except that they're moving to the Ascension project during the attack, which was started in 2176. So, one can conclude that the facility was destroyed in 2176. Kaidan was born in 2151. He was 25 when the Ascension program started and in the same year, Jack escaped. This is the same year that the attack on Elysium happened. That puts their ages and experience levels into perspective.
And who says Kaidan hasn't had to fight to survive? He's a soldier with over a dozen commendations. He's been hand picked for the Normandy crew along with Shepard. He's got biotic and tech skills and medicine skills; clearly he's not stupid. And in the course of two years, he's received two promotions and technically outranks Shepard in the Alliance.
So Kaidan isn't just a run of the mill soldier; he's exceptionally gifted.
Edit: I don't want to get into a pissing match, but I do have to take exception at the folks that claim that Kaidan is nothing special.
No pissing match, but Fort *waves bucket* I brought popcorn!!

Well that's nice considering how heavily I participated in that discussion in the Jack thread without once bashing Kaidan and going so far as to say a Jack/Kaidan fight depended on the circumstances.Batteries wrote...
Dunno. Soon as I open the thread I see Kaidan bashing, so I see no point to the discussion after that.
It would seem every comparison between favorite characters all comes down to who's your favorite character and little to do with who those characters really are.

Speaking of Kaidan not showing us to the extent of his Biotic abilities or some sort of cutscene,
I'm not sure what was worse, the AR on Horizon or the frigging pink Phoenix armor in the intro.

The rifle makes sense in my head... but only because in that ME1 playthrough he had spent a lot of time hanging around a PureSoldier!Shepard and Ashley when they were playing on Pinnacle Station. ... the Phoenix armor, not so much, even if everybody was using it in the artbook. <_<

That is what is mostly stated in this thread too. Not a clue on the other thread, since I haven't visited it. Haven't seen any Jack bashing in here about it though. That might be the difference in this.Pacifien wrote...

It would seem it heavily depends on who you're asking.Pacifien wrote...

I don't think pirate/criminal/gangster/mercenary/murderer/vandal was really what Kaidan meant when he said adventurous.FireEye wrote...
I still think we're going about this the wrong way. The point of the Jack/Shepard (Paragon) romance is that a stable and caring guy can get past her defenses. Kaidan, according to himself, like "adventurous women" and she'd understand his biotic nature or whatnot. I mean, provided neither is romancing Shepard at the time...
... I'm missing the point of "who would win in a fight," aren't I?

I am very well! Apologizing profusely for my tardiness, but I blame my umpteenth playthrough of Dragon Age and my third or fourth attempt at ME2. Once I got through it once with the lovely Shep in my avatar, I didn't want to face Horizon again... Sigh.
I hate Horizon mainly because of that goddamn Praetorian. The reunion with Kaidan... my first time it was like "OMG it's Kaidan! He's alright! Thank God! Then I got the hug and was like d'aww! Then Shepard opened her mouth:
After my first playthrough, though, my reaction to the meeting with Kaidan was a resounding meh
By the way, I'm working on a KotOR fic right now. A little late to the party, I know, and probably will never measure up to yours but my muse just wouldn't let it rest after I started replaying the game.
*laughs hysterically at the picture*
I about died of shame when my FemShep opened her mouth. "How you doin'?!" I looked at the screen and shouted, "Seriously, Phoenix?!" ('Cause that's her name, ahem.)
Gasp! A KotOR fic! I wanna read... I haven't read any in so long... I was just thinking of Carth last night, actually.
And yes. The Praetorian is DOOM. DOOM DOOM DOOM!

It's been quiet of late for FF.
Sia updated Loved yesterday. Shenzi posted an update today. Not really sure who else posted a new chapter as a link here other than them.

KaanaMoonshadow! I know her! Well, not IRL, but on dA! Ooh, ooh, that reminds me, I know I've got another awesome Carth pic around here somewhere...
In my defense, it is the same voice actor as Kaidan.
dA is misbehaving for me, so when it plays nice, I'll find and link to the Carth piece I saw...
