He may be more of the "*shrug* oh yeah, that guy" kinda character outside the forums as a whole. Not hated but not first on their list.
Haters and "My favorite character is better than yours!" are quite vocal here.

You know, these forums are really an extremely small portion of the overall ME fanbase (unless you want to think 1.5 million people are reading this). I've always wondered how Kaidan was viewed overall. I know it's a love him/hate him division around here. I'm sure a lot of regular guys outside of the forum take that whiney hate him view because regular guys are quite clueless on what appeals to women anyway. But what of the female fanbase? Kaidan overwhelmingly over other LIs or no? I mean, do Bioware get a sense of how popular he is or are they stuck being dumbfounded by Garrus's popularity?

So true! It's insane how many people love Garrus. I have nothing against him but I hope Bioware doesn't forget us Kaidan fans here. I also hope that Bioware gives us a chance to romance Kaidan again in ME3. I've read some stuff about people who left the Kaidan fandom because of what happened in Horizon in ME2. Though I respect their decision, (Kaidan did act like a jerk there) I feel sad that people keep on hating on him (and sometimes the fans) Can't we all just get along?

I'm actually worried about both of them.  The Garrus thing was a fan favor and apparently surprised the hell out of the devs for its popularity.  The Horizon backlash may hurt Kaidan a lot since the emotional reaction was so strong.  Frankly, I think both reactions show the popularity of both characters.

Horizon made us angry (ok, MOST of us) with a digital person, for crying out loud.  That's gotta be a testament to how well-written he was/is that we all got so attached to him to get that emotional over it.

Horizon made me arch and eyebrow and lol in the beginning... later I facepalmed at Sheps' reactions.

Can't blame Kaidan for running away from that!

Horizon made me mad at Shepard for not trying harder to convince Kaidan. She just sits there and expects everyone to trust her after being dead for 2 years. So, people are just supposed to accept that she's back from the dead courtesy of a terrorist organization? Why? Because she's Shepard dammit and everyone ought to listen? She doesn't even offer any evidence! Shepard just acts like everyone ought to do as she says.
Talk about acting entitled and selfishly stuck up... <_<

You know what is strange about Horizon and the virmire survivors?  Kaidan acts like a jerk to you even if you were an LI but Ashley acts like a jerk only if were not an LI.  If Ashley is an LI then she looks more sad than angry... they should have done that for Kaidan as well.

that's the problem i have with shepard. no one had ever been brought back from the dead at that point. the responses to kaidan's queries were rather weak and half-hearted.

I am entirely convinced that whoever wrote dialogue concerning female Shepard and a LI needs to never write for a female character ever again.

QFT, nothing to add.

Shepard: "I was clinicaly dead and blah blah blah"
Kaidan: "How do you know they didn't drug you or anything?"
Shepard: "I don't know"
Kaidan: "So you just trust them like that?"
Shepard: "Kind of"
Kaidan: "screw you Shepard!"
Shepard: "So long Kaidan :crying:"

I found myself LOLing a bit in the Horizon scene because of Shepard's flat reaction after Kaidan said all those things. I think Bioware should've done something about that, the facial expressions on the characters I mean (especially Shepard's!) Horizon made us all unhappy, we could at least see some unhappiness on our Shepard's face don't you think? haha

Both Kaidan and Ash go cross eyed in that scene. :wizard:

@ sia: i found it funny the devs were so surprised at the responses to garrus and tali, et al. it's like, really? you didn't see that coming? i guess i thought the aliens at times made more sense for the LIs than the humans did. depends on the shep.

@ fort and sirius: i, too found shep's horizons dialog to be awful, but i agree with you sirius, i think shep honestly keeps forgetting she's been dead. i mean, heck,*I* keep forgetting she was dead. i think she knows theoretically she was gone, but just keeps acting like nothing changed. that seemed realistic in my book.

I actually have to say that Meer did a better job on the Horizon dialogue than Hale (witch is a switch... as we all know). Hale seemed like she was yelling while Meer seemed more appologetic and emotive.

I wonder if the Reapers like cake.

ETA: I wonder when the Reapers aren't trying to make reaper larva or repurposing species for their own nefarious reasons if they are simply making really large cakes every cycle. Reapers are big. Takes much to bake a cake.

Yeah, no kidding. Whoever wrote Shepard this time around did a pretty bad job at it. It's especially obvious in the way she talks to Jacob (GAAAAAAH) and in the way she handles Horizon (*facepalm*).

I could've done better, and I usually do. That said, I do like shooting things in ME2... XD

I had to write that Meghan was just that shellshocked she couldn't come up with anything meaningful in response to Kaidan's anger, or perhaps that she was hiding what she felt for him to protect him.  It was the only reason I could think of for the same woman who was so eloquent at Tali's trial to be a complete idiot in front of the man she supposedly loved.
