I admit, at first I got so mad I didn't stay faithful and I decided Thane was the least screwed up option (I've been reading from page one of this thread and it seems like nobody really like's the ME2 romance options), but I went back and played ME1 again and I just kicked myself because too much time had passed since I played it and I forgot how great a character Kaidan was. :( So I deleted that save game (a lot of people died on my suicide mission anyway) and stayed faithful. I told myself I just used Thane for the achievement.

Okay, so you're rather new here, too.  So I'll ask this of the Kaidan fans 'cause I'm curious:
What is it about Kaidan that (1) drew you to him in the first place
and (2) made your Shepard really fall for him?

For me he had Carth's voice.  And I fell completely for Carth in KOTOR.  So I knew from the moment that Kaidan opened his mouth that he was the one for me in ME1.  The two are, therefore, linked for me.  Kaidan's genuine and steadfast nature drew me in farther.

What about you all?

I still am a Kaidan fan till the end... I just strayed off the path due to the insanity of a very stressful semester. I SORRY. :crying:

For this, I have no definitive answer. At the beginning of the summer I was just playing ME1 and going through the motions, then when the love scene came along, I found myself going, "awwwww....." :wub:Maybe it's because I finally had the chance to relax and enjoy the beautiful things in life...  like Kaidan.

Ditto! That's just... ditto. For me, Carth is the ultimate in video game men.

@Sapphy Yay, finally Kaidan gets the smack upside the head that was coming to him. Seriously, though, I love it and I have now officially forgiven him for last chapter. Now I can't wait to see where the next chapter goes!

And back to my Poser it is!

Glad you've forgiven him! He's been quite reasonably torn over everything before the data.

I don't know why, but the serious look on their faces makes me think that they are trying to determine...who is bigger. And neither wants to look down.

Hello everyone!  Ok, I'm a new gamer (Mass Effect being one of the first major games I really got into) so I didn't really know about Bioware and how they're known for being able to romance characters.  When I started playing, I was all like "la di da", killing geth, walking around the ship talking to the crew and then BLAM I go and talk to Kaidan.  The more I talked to him the more I...or shall I say, my Shepard...fell in love with him.

His voice was the first thing that caught my attention.  And then, of course, how quiet and reserved he is.  I loved going up to go talk to him and hearing his opinions about the missions.  *sigh*  I love my Kaidan...

EDIT:  Ok, just saw the picture above and I can't stop laughing!

re: Kaidan vs. Carth or Kaidan/Carth...

I didn't play KOTOR until after ME. So...

I can't think of them as the same. They are just WAY to different as characters to even equate them. The voice even sounds different to me. It's like Bastila and femshep. Same actor, but totally different vibe. I love Carth, I do, but I had already decided Kaidan was the best VG LI EVAR.

I have not played any star wars game other than the original KOTOR also. I hear sad things happen later, but I have put my fingers in my ears and believe revan and carth flew off into a star-set together, while somehow having hot smex in carth's captain chair, a 'la The Chase - but less cheesy.

:)

There would have been no place left unchristened by my Revan and Carth on the Ebon Hawk. But there was something about Carth that brings out a very deviant side of my muse in my head.

I do enjoy comparing the inflection of Carth's voice compared to Kaidan. Unmistakeably the same voice, but Carth's voice is just so much lighter, looser, more playful. With Carth I really get the sense that I can let loose with all my worst insults and he'd just laugh it up. I get the feeling if I did the same with Kaidan he'd just wait until it was all over and then plainly ask "You done now?"

(1).  Couldn't say.  I enjoyed Kaidan from the start of the game.  The friendly post-Eden Prime conversation in the mess hall probably cemented my overall fondness for his character.

(2). Hrrm.  My Shepard didn't like him at first.  Once she got past that... ... he just grew on her.  Not a lot of flat-out falling come to think of it.

Carth wasn't my favorite from KOTOR. Jolee was...by far. I like Kaidan a lot more than Carth. As sagequeen said, Carth and Kaidan are very different.

It was my teens telling me that I could romance Carth that got me playing ME in the first place.  But Kaidan had my Shep (whose name is Jade btw) as soon as he smiled in the medbay after Eden Prime, lol.  that and the fact that he is so level headed and not broken and in need of fixing.

I should say though that I really have a hard time choosing a favourite LI from Kaidan, Carth, & Alistair (it varies depending on my mood) which is why Jho's triple treat pic is my desktop pic, lol.  I hate Obsidian for not letting my exile romance Atton.Posted Image

Is it just me, or do the love interests in ME2 need A LOT of fixing? And just a lot of the characters in general... I mean, I'm happy to do a loyalty mission for the fun of it, but come on, can't ANYONE on this ship solve their own problems?

So, yes, I like that he's in no need of fixing.

Bing Bing Bing! We have a winner and similar ideas. I do love Carth to death though....

Well I'm a guy and I primarily play as a male Shepard, so I'll answer these two questions differently:

What is it about Kaidan that (1) drew you to him in the first place

Ashley was a foil to Kaidan. After recruiting her, and comparing their personalities, I appreciated Kaidan more. He was level headed, patient, polite (not without a good amount of edge now and then), and I saw him as more tolerant and reasonable.

and (2) made your Shepard like him?

The attributes I just listed. It's a shame that M!Shepard can't be friends with Kaidan as obviously as other characters, but my Shepard liked that Kaidan was a thoughtful fellow who seemed to have everything in order.

Going to bed myself.

Have a Lady Winde pic before I go - since it fits at least part of my last chapter.

1.  It started out as talking to him like I did the rest of the crew.  After hearing him out (his voice and his view on everything), it just kept me going back to him...even when he didn't have anything else to say, lol.

2.  I think just the fact that he was so different from the rest of the crew.  Keeping to himself and only opening up to Shepard.  During ME1, my Shepard could just rant and rave about the Council and Saren, and she knew that Kaidan would be there to listen.

I started to play the game after watching a friend play it. He played paragade.  I play completely paragon and was so into the story I never realized I was being courted.  I kind of remember him telling me that Ashley was into him but I thought he was kidding.  I enjoyed the talks with Kaidan and I thought the take with Liara was kind of odd, but okay.  then I all of a sudden get confronted in the comm room and I was like, 'wait when did that happen, how did I miss that.'  I had to reload and find it all again.  That's when I really started to enjoy the whole LI as well as the game, before that I just liked the game (I did take Kaidan all the time before anyway, I mean his biotics worked well for my soldier)

ref the picture: Ditto!!
