My characters have to go through hell first to get that happy ending, though.

Thats always the best way to go, otherwise the happy ending is a moot point; hello...you were quite alright already anyway
Darn it I really need to get on with Act 2 of my fic but after my exams, my muse took a detour down Metal Gear Street and I haven't got it back enough yet to think about writing original Mass Effect stuff. If I tried, there would likely be random gekko, a cardboard box and a cataclysmic time paradox caused by Shepard and Naomi Hunter meeting  Oh well, I'll get my fishing rod and catch my muse soon.

I'm doing things backwards of course, Kaidan and Kate get their happy ending in JBHWTBA before I deal with Kate's first 3 months out of the lab. That fic won't be nearly so fluffy.



But maybe for that I'll actually plan out the story instead of continually writing myself into a corner. The fun of writing inexperience, oh all the things I would have done differently in JBHWTBA if I had half a clue when I started it.

I think planning can help and hinder; it gives you perspective but if you stick to it too rigidly, you miss out on plot and details that just randomly occur because it feels right when you write.

@Jilly - I know the ending point of JBHWTBA now too for the main story, it just is taking me awhile a well. Last chapter was supposed to be 1/3 of a chapter but then Kate got rolling on her list and it turned into its own chapter. Even after I finish the main story though I'll prolly do the occasional adventure of K&K to provide regular doses of fluff.

I plan, perhaps excessively. The Rescue taught me that. It wasn't supposed to be nearly 90K words and counting.

Oh yes you always write more than you intend to. My livejournal of one-sentence 'drabbles', or o it was supposed to be, is proof of that.

JBHWTBA wasn't supposed to go past 3 chapters and I hadn't planned on doing Kate's side at first either but now I'm actually going to have to show a lot of thing that were randomly tossed out by Kate / Joker / Garrus along the way.

BTW that's the fault of all of you guys who left me reviews, I just kept going "well maybe I'll move the ending point back to this point."

@Sia: Planning is good. Need to get to work on the prophet outline I started, see if I've got any ideas for us. I just am a bit scatterbrained today.

(FYI, in LfW, Tali is currently asking Ella and Kaidan for romantic advice... not sure if that was a good idea on her part.)

Anyway, I'm off for the night. I have two more Geth Outposts to clear and minerals to scan because I am a complete XP freak (though with over 100,000 points left to go to Lv60, you have to scrape that barrell- I've already completed the actualy mineral quest...)
