Why is kaidan sitting at the helm in the SR-1 if he is also a ground trooper? DId they just want to add him in the opening, or is he an actual Fleet Officer, beyond his combat role?
I think it's possible that he has some minor piloting or ship-monitoring skills. I mean, he's got tech skills so he'd probably know a little bit about it. He does seem to have a few miscellaneous skills (tech, biotics, medical)

We don't know what his service ranking is really. We know he's the head of the marine detachment, that's it. Shepard is a N7. Ash's profile indicates she was a "B" something. It's possible that whatever Kaidan belongs to has multiple responsibilities.
Both these answers make sense, It has to be multiple, since it does fit.

The system is there is a "service" for each of the 26 letters of the Alphabet, and a graduate ranking of 1 to 7.

Reave is also instantaneous hit for both Shepard and squad, and its stun component causes them to seize out of cover.NICKjnp wrote...

What... is Reave supposed to do anyway? I never figured that out.
Reave is similar to warp. It doesn't do warp explosions but it does do double damage to armor and barriers. Also... it siphons life (from organics) from the target(s) to Shepard (or Samara if she uses it). It is supposed to do damage over a period of time (like warp from the first game) but on armor and barrier it does one direct hit. I only use it to get rid of defenses before I charge in and hit them with my boomstick.
It feels cheap using Area Reave on my Engineer, but my Engineer desperately needs it.

I think Garrus might have been required. I didn't go looking for him the first time. He showed up at the C-sec elevator when Kimbri and Kaidan were on their way to the Normandy.Nightodie wrote...

I am sure that he had several jobs .. one of the fics said it was weapons, i assume that since it was one of the first jumps and he is one of the techs that he was monitoring, something he can also do down from his position by Shepards cabin... I guess.
I have another observation, In ME you could choose not to have someone join the team, in ME2 you have to go after the first four no matter what. I like ME better, I could do without Jack, don't care for her and I wish she wore more clothing. Come on there is such a thing as good taste.
Yeah in ME if you did want someone you just didn't recruit them.

*waves* Welcome Da Shadow Master. Welcome. I liked Ash. She and had some fun byplay. I don't like having to sacrifice her every time. But...its her or Kaidan. I can't let him die. I can't. It it was choice between her and pretty much anyone else, though...
Perhaps we'll get to learn more as a bonus for the Shepards that get back together with him? They have a lot more to learn about each other, afterall.sirius
it's sad we have to make assumptions about kaidan's duties and rank. his personal history is just as lacking.

No even once you see Garrus at the elevator, I have heard you still don't have to bring him...I never did that of course, I always go and get him.
I wonder what the ME2 scene on Omega would be like if you hadn't recruited him in ME1.

Me too that is a good question....
I always use Direct2Drive and I have never had a problem with them. I have been using them for years, it really is good if you have a loptop. No disc's to cart around... It helps if it s a gaming laptop, with an HD monitor... okay I am stopping now.....

I've heard it's basically exactly the same. Another way in which ME2 fails at continuity.

If my grandmother will let me use her computer and not get annoyed that I want to use it, I may finally get it!
Haven't played the poor game in years.
