All these hot Kaidan pics are making me miss him lots so i think i'm gonna play some ME1 today for the sole purpose of romancing him.

Its intentional, I"m sure, on TIM's part.  He wants to keep Shepard relatively isolated and dependent upon him.  Why he allows Tali, I"m not quite sure.  But everyone else is mostly out for themselves--perhaps with the exception of Jacob.  Honestly, he's not a bad guy.  Just not interesting at all as a romance.
got off track.    This is a group of people who, like Cerberus, will do whatever it takes to get the job done--with little or no moral hangups.  TIM probably also knows that these people are unlikely to be as dedicated to Shep as Kaidan or Ash or Liara.  They are paid off by him (one way or another), so would have split loyalties.
These people are loyal to Shepard, but don't really care about her as a person too much (again, Tali being an exception, and possibly Thane to an extent).  Even Garrus!  He asks her to help him, but he was there for Horizon.  But he was never really there for her as a friend afterward.  Only Kelly and Joker ask her about it, but it seems more from a standpoint of how it is going to affect the mission, not from wanting to help her through it.

Morning all and totally agree with this. Ofcourse I want each fan to get the third chapter with their own chosen LI, don't wish what we went through in ME2 upon others, but personally I would toss them all out of the airlock in a heartbeat to make room for Kaidan/his dialogue/scenes and whatever. Well cept for Garrus who remains my Shep's best friend

Jho - Garrus is my shep's best friend but I'd even throw him out the airlock if I had to, to get Kaidan back.  especially since the bugger wouldn't talk to her about Kaidan after Horizon, not to mention the cheese & sleaze quickie reach & flexibility crap.   I'm with Joker here - I like the old Garrus better, lol. 

Re Morinth - don't forget all her talk in her apartment about how she loves the look in her opponents eyes before she kills them & whatnot.  she knows exactly what she's doing.  she is pure evil.  I don't particularly like Samara that much either but she is the lesser of the 2 evils to me, lol

I want Kaidan back as a squadmate more than any other character obviously, but I'll have serious issues with ME3 if I don't get Garrus back too.  Kate needs both her boys guarding her back again like in ME1.

RE: Returning squadmates theory.

I think they'll put most of them back in, but they'll have very little banter/interaction, since the potential combo's based on who you romanced/recruited/saved are huge. I also think the the VS has a plot specific goal, which is why s/he couldn't be thrown in the bag w/the rest of the squaddies.

I expect they're important in the same way Alistair was necessary to DAO's plot, so you couldn't drive him away like any other companion until the Landsmeet. This Alistair comparison does not in any way mean I'm expecting a demon-baby-ish conclusion, as that wouldn't fit the epic-heroic feel of ME. Just that there's more to the VS in three than your average squadmate.

Since we had that earlier, I was looking more into distances and times for fanfic writing. Thought I'd share some of what I've found with you. Maybe it helps. Hope it's not as confusing as it appears. It's just a try to list some stuff about distances and the time it takes. Each can take it and use it for their own fan fics.

In Mass Effect Revelation it is mentioned, that the SSV Hastings travels 15 million kilometers per second (makes 900 million kilometers per hour) and also that this is 50 times faster than the speed of light. It is also mentioned, that the trip from Arcturus station to Earth takes 6 hours. We know that Arcturus is 36 light years away from Earth and can be reached through the Charon Relay orbiting Pluto. Depending on Earth's and Pluto's current positions at time of travel, distance between both planets is about 4.8 billion kilometers (give or take).

Let's assume, the above mentioned fact are true.

The distance between Earth and Arcturus station would be 5.4 billion kilometers.
Let's take the 4.8 billion kilometers from Earth to the Charon Relay near Pluto which would take around 5 hours and 20 minutes. And then the travel from the Charon Relay to Arcturus Station (= distance 600 million kilometers) 40 minutes.

The Serpent Nebula does not really exist. However, there is a Snake Nebula in our real world, which is about 650 light years away from Earth. Let's just assume that this is our Serpent Nebula and all clusters there have the same distance to Earth (just to make things easy.) Travelling from Earth to the Serpent Cluster would require a mass relay jump from the local cluster to Acturus station, from one of the Arcturus Mass Relays to the Exodus Cluster and from the Exodus Cluster to the Serpent Nebula. That means, 3 mass relay jumps, plus the travel to and from the mass relays. (5 hours 20 minutes, maybe 1 or 2 hours from Arcturus relay one to arcturus relay two and jump to the Excodus Cluster, maybe 10 to 20 minutes to make another jump through the relay to the Serpent Nebula, maybe 20 to 40 minutes to travel from the mass relay to the Citadel = so from 6 hours 50 to 8 hours 20)

Also, I found a picture of this mass relay map which may be helpful to calculate some fanfiction routes. I will try to make a screenshot of the ME2 map later on. May be helpful as well.
