Slow night. So....who wants to come up with reasons Kaidan was in pink armor at the beginning of ME2. It's become kind of an obsession of mine. I guess I just don't want to find out that the answer is someone was lazy and why program something else if Liara and Ash were already in pink. Personally, I like the answer that real men aren't afraid to wear pink.

Kaidan is written for us girls as a romantic interest. Judging from all 'the hate' from mostly male gamers, I think Bioware did a better job at writing than people give them credit for. They sure pushed my buttons correctly but by doing so they gave him dialogue options that made a lot of men frown, to say the least.
I think Bioware accomplished what they set out to do for us least, they gave us a love interest we actually grew to love. Even when in ME2 there is so little to go on, here we are. So despite all the whining about him whining, somewhere along the way, they got it right

Which in no way means I'm satisfied with his role in ME2, mind you.

I think you're right.  And I see the same thing with Carth too: the Carth haters in my experience are mostly men; feel free to correct me if you think I'm wrong.  I think the comment about Kaidan not being your stereotypical man hit the nail right on the head.  Men have it so ingrained in them that real men don't show emotions that the idea of a man being comfortable talking about his emotions is anathema to them, whereas women are used to it and appreciate seeing a man who opens up to the woman he cares about.

Taking off my gender and women's studies hat, your comment about there not being much to go on in ME2 remidns me of a thought I've been having a lot over the course of the game (on my third playthrough now, tackling Insanity difficulty.  Youch!).  Which is that Bioware could have done so much more with the Shepard/Kaidan relationship in ME2.  Maybe some sort of long-distance conversations similar to the one Shepard has with her mother in the Spacer background.  Or even just the option to reply to Kaidan, using the conversation wheel to set the general tone of the message, and maybe continue the correspondence in this way.  I think Bioware may have bitten off more than they could chew with the number of romance options and I would rather they have gone more in depth with the ME1 love interests plus maybe 2 or 3 really well-done new ones instead of trying to do the ME1 LIs plus (if I'm not missing anything) something on the order of 7 new ones!  I think this was a case of trying to be all things to all people and ending up doing a mediocre job of everything.  Not that I don't think what they had was superb, but real romances develop gradually and you can't do that when you only have maybe a total of 3 or 4 conversations with each one.  I mean, people complained about the feeling of the ME1 romances but seriously, the first time I played ME2 I started with a new character and romanced Jacob and it made me mourn the natural-feeling relationship of Shepard and Kaidan.  I mean, the first time you express interest in him Shepard is being so incredibly pushy in the face of his hesitation and then the next time you talk to him he's all "OMG I love you so much."  After that I went through and replayed Mass Effect (By an idiotic mistake I lost all my old characters I had intended to import) just to get the bad taste out of my mouth, not to mention I needed to have a Shepard that had romanced Kaidan to carry over.  Anyone else agree?

ITA! I took the way out you're offered towards the end of DAO, then reloaded and saw the non-"Ultimate" ending and it broke my heart for my Cousland. Not sure I'd be able to see my Shep go through that too.

Thanks...it was my last one for a while...I'm doing some painting and I'm hoping to have time to play ME again just to get my self re-familiarized with Kaidan's character again. Hoping that will spark some ideas for some fics for the future. 

I absolutely love your fanfics, and I agree 'The Lie'  has to be my favourite. xD I adore the end, it gave me goosebumps. x) You are definitely an accomplished writer, well done.

Haha, I remember having no intention of buying Mass Effect, back when it was Xbox only, but then I saw a pic of Kaidan from the opening scene, and the caption said that this was female Shepard's love interest.  I was like "Oh REALLY???"...and of course I bought it immediately when it came out on PC.
