I wish I had even a little bit of talent at writing, I’ve had a story in my mind for awhile now with serious Kaidan angst in it.

Lets face it, coming back from the dead would be very hard to comprehend or believe.   While Kaidan might believe it is the truth on some level, on another level he would have a hard time really believing that Shepard hadn’t just been hiding out with Cerberus for 2+ years.

This fic would fit neatly after Demigod & Joker's little talk with Kaidan.   In this story it would have Joker dumping everything he managed to hack out of the Cerberus database having to do with project Lazerus on Kaidan; Miranda’s logs, scientific data and of course pictures & videos of Shepard from beginning to end of the project. The end point of the data would be a video of Shepard waking up under gunfire, he’d see her in pain, scars at their worst struggling to get up and defend herself and just to make it really painful calling out his name at the end.

I think Kaidan would start drinking as soon as he started playing Miranda’s logs, the first one would be a discussion of corpse retrieval and of Liara’s role in providing Cerberus with the body and as much as he tried to keep himself from doing it he would have to look at the pictures of Shepards’ corpse. Kaidan would also be enraged by the snide comments by the scientists about the woman he loves.   You know they would be commenting on her appearance and lamenting that they couldn’t make her more attractive.   I think Kaidan would also be having thoughts of all the grim things he would do to Miranda if he ever got the chance to meet up with her one on one.

I think that Kaidan would need a few days to sort everything out in his mind after going through all the info Joker gave him but he would be resolved to trying to pick up the pieces of the relationship and make it work again. However since we’re in an angst heavy story he’d find out that Shepard had just taken her team through the Omega 4 relay and all he could do at that point is just wait and see if the woman he loves survives and returns to him.

So that's a summary of what my one shot piece would be if I had any writing ablitliy at all.

Well, I'm sure people here will be willing to help! I'll help, though I'm more an action/humour sort, so my writting style might not work for it.

I don't think Kaidan would be that harsh against Miranda who, for all her flaws, did ultimately bring Shepard back to life, and in her logs Miranda seems quite reverent of Shep as a space hero and all.

I'm sure he'd have some words for Miranda, and Liara but in the end alive Shep is better than dead Shep!

Well unless she becomes a Cerberus stooge but nobody likes that ending.

Thanks everyone, and thanks for the reviews at ff.net, too!

I'm glad people liked it, I was worried it was a bit too much gloom, but it's short, so hopefully it's not over the top.

This is kind of a prologue to the idea I had for a story, so expect actual dialogue (and an appearance by Shepard) next time around!

Honestly, it's been hard to read fics that focus on other characters too.  I got horribly disappointed seeing fics marked Shepard/Kaidan, but which portray Kaidan as a wimpy doormat or angry jerk while Shep walks into the sunset with Garrus or Thane.  So writing my own story was practically an act of desperation, LOL.

Star58 wrote...
Awwww.  Angsty but very good!  Poor Kaidan.  I really liked the contrast of dreams and reality. Your story made me wonder how he dealth with his feelings towards Rahna all those years ago since he's clearly using his dreams to escape from reality now. I'm hoping you'll take some pity on him in the second part!

Poor Kaidan!!! It made my heart break a little
again. It was refreshing to read though. You gave him a wonderful
outlet to remember her by. I think you captured him much better than a
majority of the writers on fanfiction.net. It is nice to see people
aren't forgetting about him again. There is much to much Garrus &
Thane love going on right now and they rairly get Kaiden right.
Thanks!!![smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]

back to staring blankly at a wall of words that somehow just don't seem
right.

Teen, great story. I love being able to see what goes on in Kaidan's head, it's very in-character too imo. Moar! ;)

I don't know about anyone else but I can't read any of the fanfics that have Shepard involved with someone besides Kaidan.

It's my first fanfic in a loooooooong time, so hopefully I get better with practice.  I want to add one more chapter to it, since I labelled it Angst/Romance, and so far it's all angst.

Feel free to review, I need to develop a thicker skin!

Waiting anxiously for part two!

Both my older sisters went to Bowdoin, do they still have co-ed fraternaties?    They graduated in the late '80s.

Really?  Small world!  And no, Bowdoin got rid of fraternities in the late '90's, and they have been replaced by a College House system.

My brother went to Bates, I was the family rebel and went to college in PA instead of Maine although I remember considering applying to Colby when I was looking at colleges.  I graduated in '94 so it's been awhile.

So... to make this about Kaidan: Do you think he went to college? We can surmise based on conversations with Dr. Chakwas and Ashley that the schooling system hasn't hugely changed from what it is now, and if that's the case, I find it interesting that the hero/heroine of the whole saga, Commander Shepard, seems not to have gone to college based on the fact that Shepard enlisted at age 18 no matter which background you pick.  With Kaidan I would say there's room for interpretation... he never says exactly when he enlisted, but I get the impression it was a few years after the BAaT fiasco.

Edit: Not sure how much faith to put in this number, but according to the Mass Effect Wiki Kaidan enlisted at age 22, which definitely leaves open the possibility that he went to college.  Maybe the University of British Columbia?

And you (BECC too) get +5 Chelsea points for referencing David Eddings.  Which of his books have you read?

Well th Belgariad is like my fave book (technically series) of all time! I've read all but the latest ones which are sat on my shelf waiting to be read!  Lol keep getting distracted though!

Is that the Dreaming God series?

That's the only one I haven't read except for his first two novels (High Hunt & Loser).

If anyone likes some political type fantasy books, I recommend George R. R. Martin.

Gonna try the latest Final Fantasy before even considering Awakening, not sure I want to buy it. Then again, not too sure I'm still into the FF format. Might be getting a bit old for it, who knows :)

I liked the story from what I played of FF12, but I didn't like the way combat was done in it (at least with the specials). Not sure if I want to chance that kind of money for FF13. Image IPB

To go back on topic- Do you think Kaidan is a reader? That would just totally complete the hotness for me.

“Yeah, I read a lot of those books when I was a kid. Where the hero goes to space to prove himself worthy of a woman he loves. Or, you know. For justice.”

Lol. I don't know why I didn't think of this.

Good call.

Morning everyone!

Aww, this is one of my favourite slip ups in the game, he's like, "Oh, no! She can't think I'm sort of sappy loser! Uh...you know, for justice!" I can see Kaidan as a reader, the journals related to his fields of interest is spot on I think, I bet he likes historical non-fiction too (military history especially), and every now and then he secretly goes on a binge and rereads all of his favourites from when he was a kid.

No, they're crap! Image IPB

Of course, they're awesome. Plus, Eddings used to live and write where I was born.

Maybe! Depends now how quickly I come up with them. So far, I've been able to manage close to 1 a day.

Btw, about your idea earlier, I say you should just give it ago - idea's are the hardest part, imo, and if you've got an idea, you're half way there. A good idea can compensate for bad or inexperienced writing, and writing gets better with practice.

Just so you know, I only got a C in GCSE English - which is a 'pass just about' mark. And my handwriting is terrible. And I've lost count of the number of times I had to make edits after posting cus of errors.

Yes the dreaming god one, I think the last book I read was twilight (again Image IPB) before that Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, it's ok, I wouldn't rush out to buy it ar anything.

I've heard mixed things about George R MArtin, at least I think it was him, like he kills everone off, not the kind of thing I like really.

Yeah, don't get too attached to his characters. They do tend to end up dead. But, he does weave an interesting tale regardless. Every chapter is from a different person's perspective. It's nifty.

Yeah, I read some George R.R. Martin, stopped once I got tired of seeing him spending each new book thinking of just how many ways he could screw up his characters'  lives.  Not my cup of tea at all.

My husband is so p'od at Martin since he wrote half a series and stopped, it's not a good topic to bring up in my house.
