I wondered about that myself, then I settled for that Joker and Chakwas put it there, or something like that.

Dunno how long Shepard was on that station before talking to TIM or how much time passed between talking to him and actually boarding the Normandy. Doubt Joker would ever think about a detail like that.
Indeed a funny thing to think about. Who got the picture and even bought a frame for it before placing it on Shepard's desk in her private quarters....Chakwas possibly, most likely Kelly.

Speaking of Kelly, why the hell did she bring a stripper outfit onboard the Normandy on a suicide mission anyway?

Maybe she would use it to boost the morale of the crew?

I feel like I've got to read a whole lot more XD too many good authors... I've got some Anne McCaffrey and Frank Herbert here from the older ones. Lately also quite addicted to R.A. Salvatores Forgotten Realms books.

I've read quite a few nice examples of fanfic here. Keep up the good writing peeps

I loved Salvatore in his earlier works, but his last Drizzt series I have never been able to muster through. I keep getting about 100 pages into a 1000 Orcs and losing interest.

Yes the dreaming god one, I think the last book I read was twilight (again ) before that Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, it's ok, I wouldn't rush out to buy it ar anything.  

I've heard mixed things about George R MArtin, at least I think it was him, like he kills everone off, not the kind of thing I like really.

I like some of the theories here, and have one of my own, naturally...: 
My Shep is a War Hero, and I just figured the medal (that you can click to look at achievement progress) next to the picture frame could be the Star of Terra she was rewarded for Elysium. Or maybe a different one for saving the Citadel or something else like Akuze/Torfan.
So I just took a guess Cerberus had been to Shep's place and ninja'd a few things, including the picture and medal.
On the other hand, since it's an electronic picture frame, it could be from anywhere and Shep/somebody else put in there, possibly from Kaidan's Alliance files. I think I just falsified or at least punched holes in my own theory.

Oh my god, I can't believe I'm reading this! I woke up this morning, started making coffee and began wondering exactly this myself! She wouldn't have had any pics of him on her that could possibly have survived what happened to the SR-1 of course.

I started thinking about this in a fanficcy sort of way, and I can see Shep being all heartbroken and confused by her resurrection and desperately trying to find out what happened to Kaidan. Angry that no one wants to talk about him (seriously, Joker, lame response there), she furiously starts future-googling him since she doesn't have access to Alliance records like she used to anymore, but only comes up with a grainy picture of the Normandy crew together after the victory at the Citadel: Kaidan is at her side - everyone's standing at attention, so you can't tell, but her right hand is touching his left one.

Angst! Despair! Off to the Citadel to interrogate Anderson it is, but woe! He won't tell her anything, and at this point, who's to say that he's even still alive, if he's off the grid on some sort of top secret mission?! She comes back to the Normandy, raging on the inside, heads up to her quarters, only to freeze in the doorway when she notices someone's put that picture of him on her desk.

I like to think that Joker had an attack of guilt about what happened on the SR-1 and had EDI hack into Alliance records, and they were able to get a hold of Kaidan's most recent official pic from his personnel file.

Great minds think alike   I would like to think maybe Joker felt guilty and decided he owed it to my FemShep and Kaidan to help preserve their relationship b/c in a way he is the reason they are not together.  Of course, Dr. Chakwas probably noticed my FemShep constantly hanging around Kaidan on the original Normandy and put two and two together.  Maybe she felt the picture would help my FemShep get through the trials ahead of them, give her a reason to fight and survive.

re: the picture. I guess I lack an imagination but I assumed that Shepard just filled the frame with an extranet photo. There is that other frame on the desk by the bed that doesn't have any photo in it. I figured that those frames came with the cabin.

Hmm doesn't Kelly ask about Kaidan after Horizon? Not commander Alenko or whatever, just Kaidan. Leading me to believe she's well aware of what's going on and could have boosted Shepard's own morale with the picture.

But Kelly in Shepard's quarters while she's not there, is still creeping me out

Actually, I also quit after 1000 orcs... But rereading the older ones

And regarding Kaidans pic: maybe she just ordered it via the extranet, since Udina has one too?
