Okay, I'm sick of searching the site and am asking for a little help here. What are all the complaints usually heard about Kaidan's character? I've got gay, whiny and the Carth wannabe. I know some say boring, but that's subjective to personality so I'm not going to bother addressing that in my fic. Can you give me more?

kaidan has a plan.  he notices shepard in the background.  she becomes enthralled by him perfoming his duties sans chair.  then offers to massage his sore areas later in her cabin.  kaidan's a smart man.

I've actually heard homophobic and sulky/immature, from people who accidentally triggered the romance and then ended it badly, or with the threesome line in the Liara confrontation.



And I've also come across the useless in a fight. Which I don't get. I was playing the other day, completely ignoring my squad cause I'd forgotten that when I push the cover button in ME1 doesn't mean they actually get into cover as they usually do in ME2, and he didn't die. My other squadmember did before I realized what was going on, but Kaidan was fine. *shrugs*

Oh yes. I've heard the "I was cool with him until the confrontation scene. Then he turned out to be just a dude."



That really pisses me off. He's supposed to want to share someone's heart with someone else? And his stammering around then was probably him trying to choose his words carefully to not offend her. What's he supposed to say? "OMG URA LEZ!!! WTFUX???!!!!!"

...Immature after choosing Liara or choosing the threesome option is the last thing I'd say. He was actually pretty cool about it and made it clear that he wanted Shep's heart, not her ****** n' ass.

I dunno what he says about it afterwards if you chose Liara though. Never tried it myself.

there are certain threads i avoid because of the kaidan bashing.  i'll peruse them and send you my findings in a pm.

Let's see...gay, whiny, Carth clone/Reminds me of Carth, boring, and bland. I of course don't agree with any of these. I will say that a lot of times, "whiny" is just another way of saying "I don't like this character." Primarily, people who don't like Kaidan don't like him because he's "boring."

I didn't claim I understood the immature comments, just that I saw a few. I agree w/Fort completely. I like the fact he doesn't want to share Shepard's affections.

people are actually attacking what Kaidan does in the confrontation if you choose "Can't I have you both?" I think he acted reasonably and maturely there. It's Shepard who is at fault there, trying to have them both at the same time...Kaidan was smart to leave.

"Look Shepard, if you're not serious about me, it'll hurt, but I'll get over it." - I wonder if guys bash him just because he says it'd hurt? I dunno. I think that's one of his better lines even if getting it sucks.


So for ME3, if we have these "outfits and alternate outfits"... if Kaidan's blinky armor if his default, what would you think the alternate would be? Pink and white color scheme with red lights!

@Collider...you bring up something I'm curious about...the whiny usually meaning they just don't like the character. Do you find more that are inclined this way rather than the OMG he's f***ing gay crowd?

I'm trying to grasp the 'personality' of those who don't like him. If it's just a difference of personality, there isn't much to work with because I think they have every right to like or not like whomever they want. But those who go off on Kaidan being 'gay' or 'sulky' I'm trying to understand where they come from so I can capture that.

I've seen more people call him "whiny" than call him gay. The whiny part usually links back to them not liking Carth, so someone else with the same VA must be whiny too.

I think a lot of the dislike comes from his subtlety. It's perfectly easy, if you're not paying that much attention, to converse w/Kaidan and only pick up: "He doesn't want me to have fun and blow everything up" "he keeps talking about rules and ****" or "omg, he's talking about his ex again? why does bioware keep doing that?" You have to pay attention to Kaidan.

I hardly ever see Kaidan being called "gay." I've seen it a couple times only. As far as those few who call him "gay," it's just because Kaidan is "sensitive" and not super macho like say Wrex or Canderous or Zaeed. I've also heard Alistair being called gay.



About whining - since people do not like Kaidan anyway (because they think he's boring), they're therefore going to sympathize less with his "problems."



So they're going to see Kaidan talknig about headaches or Rana to be overreacting and complaining. Considering we all know that Kaidan does not whine - I'd say most of the time when he's said to be whiny, people are just saying that they don't like him.

Carth does actually play a big part. Carth was seen as a whiner too with his trust issues. So some people really did not like Carth and since Kaidan has the same voice actor, they are sort of projecting the "whinyness" of Carth onto Kaidan.
