this - see, i thought so. again, am replaying it right now, but even in the initial dialog with TIM i thought this (when you ask to call in the alliance, he actually won't let you)

Thane knew it was a suicide mission because Cerberus contacted him beforehand.
... I wonder if Kaidan thought Cerberus was behind the attack on the Normandy, considering they were investigating missing ships -> missing colonists -> "Cerberus is responsible." Maybe that's why he's so into it - he's trying to get back at Cerberus for what he perceives them as having done to Shepard in the first place (and seeing her on Horizon would make the logic leap of "she jumped ship to Cerberus" less of a leap).

Anderson sent Kaidan to investigate Cerberus, not Shepard... though he might have imagined that Shepard would show up. And I don't think Kaidan knew that Shepard's mission was a suicide mission; Anderson might know. ... I do wonder about Anderson - I think he's very straightforward, but that he probably takes Shepard's perceived betrayal as hard as Kaidan does, but in a different way. I kinda took his misleading Kaidan and Shepard as protecting Kaidan (since he seems to have that mentor-quality towards both of them).

Did they?
I'm not too sure what to think about Anderson now. He could be doing anything, for better or for worse.

This is what I don't get..... he is on the other side of the galaxy. Why couldn't you just sign off and call the Alliance yourself?

I thought so. Either that or I wasn't paying attention. I thought they contacted a lot of the people you pick up beforehand and arranged deals with them in advance, including loyalty missions.

Remember that its a Cerberus ship and Miranda and probably Chambers as well as EDI are monitoring all incoming and outgoing communications. I would assume that they would just block any attempt of hers to contact the Alliance on the ship at that point.NICKjnp wrote...

Would have been nice if you tried and they were on their way, but you realize that they wouldn't get there in time. Like with Eden Prime.
... or maybe the SR2 doesn't have any connection to the outside world besides that one communication device that hooks directly into tIM's office.

... hrm.

I think that "he" has Joker, Garrus, Chakwas, Mordin, Grunt and Jack who could both provide distractions and help him establish a connection.

Maybe they could try, but EDI is the real problem there. It can probably block everything.

this. unless they pull a master li on us, i'm trusting anderson. alliance brass might hide moles, but i really want anderson to just stay awesome. besides, he's pulling for you to stop saren and stop the reapers. i don't see him as being in with cerberus necessarily, just being cautious.
re: kaidan's mission, i also took it that (and i may be reading more into this, but...)
the Alliance needs to stay strong, and if human colonies go missing, that's bad
but those people left Alliance space, so the Alliance can't officially help them
so Kaidan is both investigating AND setting up towers for defense
it's classified because 1) they think Cerberus might be involved and want to know if they are and 2) if tax-paying Alliance citizens find out their money is going out to the terminus systems, they're going to be pissed.
at least, that was the route i took in my fanfic.
i think if Anderson TRULY thought kaidan was at risk for a direct cerberus OR collector attack, he would never have sent him alone. that's just silly. he's got a pic of kaidan on his desk, after all.
i think anderson sent kaidan to get his intel because kaidan is a one-man army and he can trust kaidan to do what he needs. i think anderson doesn't fully trust shep at this point, and that's quite understandable given that shep showed up alive and with cerberus. i think he's waiting to see the verdict on shep.
my question is: what conversation goes down when kaidan reports to anderson AFTER horizon?

wait, just played this:
looking back at pre-horizon convo with TIM. he TELLS you that he's going to contact the alliance personally as soon as you're groundside.
now, kyrie doesn't believe him for a second, but to me that implies that he WILL block your call if you try to send it.

I still think Anderson knows more than he's letting on. He doesn't question Shepard's loyalty, or the fact that she's working with Cerberus, or even the fact that she's back from the dead and cruising around in a new Normandy, just tells her to be careful and he's there if she wants to talk. So while he may have told Kaidan that he is investigating Cerberus I still think that he knows more than he's saying and keeping his cards close to his chest. Maybe he's laying a trap or trying to lull someone into a false sense of security, unless he turns out to be a baddie, lol. I still think he has a spy on the Normandy - possibly Joker, Chakwas (her leaving the Alliance makes no sense), Ken or Gabby, or maybe even Jacob is actually an Alliance plant in Cerberus.
I hope it's Jacob. It would redeem his character a bit.

HE'S THE SHADOW BROKER. YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST!

As for Jacob I've always had my suspicions about him. He apparently works for an organisation that he says he doesn't trust and knows they are terrorists (or course this could just be because he's a glory hound), he still has access to top secret Alliance stuff even though he's supposedly no longer with the Alliance and been branded a troublemaker, and presumably they would know he's with Cerberus. Something just doesn't ring true for his character for me, or maybe I'm just reading too much into it, lol

In all honesty I don't know who the shadow broker is. At one stage I thought it may have been the council - just to keep everyone on their toes and to control some of the factions and races, but I see holes in that theory, so unless its someone completely unexpected and improbable (as it will be in the random stupidity), it may be someone we have yet to meet.

I mean... look at him!

You can't trust that face! And... uh... he was at odds with Liara over Shepard's body?
