Liara hints every five seconds, by the way do you know I can mate with ANYTHING?

For instance that coffee mug over there, that laptop, a pair of sunglasses, you...

That very reason is why I did not talk to Liara in my last playthrough in ME1...the romance is pretty in your face and I had heard stories about people accidentally romancing her.

The thing I dislike most about her romance is that it seems unavoidable at the beginning. You end up being nice and checking on her, and she immediately interprets it as something else. Then the next round of dialogues, since I'm normally romancing Kaidan, he's all confused because Liara is interested.

I've never not been able to shut her down after that though. I always tell her nicely that I'm interested in Kaidan and that we're just friends and I've yet to have the confrontation scene.

Liara: I WANTS YOU!!

Indeed. Liara is impossibly desperate. That's why I think Ashley/Kaidan make the most realistic romance subplots, since they build up gradually and nicely.

I did like some of the individual Asari in Mass Effect, but I think as a whole the Asari are far too sexualized.

It seems that they had intended for them to be the "space babes" and what resulted was a race of near-human female aliens who can mate with anyone...the only strippers are Asari, the Consort was Asari, Morinth was Asari...Benezia and Samara inexplicably showing off skin...in Asari culture it's even encouraged to sleep with other species - and stigmatized if you don't.

As for Liara herself, I think the conversations with her would have been bettered if the romance had started later rather than sooner.

I didn't say I hated her. I said I disliked her romance.

I think most of her "confusfion" comes from the fact that she and Shepard are sharing a very intimate connection in order to understand the Prothean Beacon data.

They probably ran into scripting problems.  You might pick her up first, but then you might pick her up after another world.  Pick her up last and it's really funny.

I didnt claim you did, I was merely raising my Flamesheilds in case of Liara fans. I have learned that some groups are not to be cheesed off round here.

I do remeber one thing that made me laugh after my dad did a PT he let my sisters try ME1 (thats how my dad decides what games he lets them play at least). THe best reaction to any game I ever heard was when my sister suddenly yelled "BUT IM NOT A LESBIAN!". Confused my dad, but made me laugh really badly.

Or maybe she's using that as an execuse to get in Shepard's pants; like using coffee as an execuse to enter a girlfriend's home.

Well, that could have easily been circumvented if they had required you to just go to Therum first. But they don't have to do that either. They could have done this:

1st Conversation with her
2nd Conversation with her
3rd conversation with her - Romance can be started & the conversation is double length.

Problemo solved.

Anyway - they intentionally made Liara a virginal, socially awkward recluse who is inexperienced in relationships in general (which fits into Liara thinking there's a connection between her and Shepard when they've barely known each other). Shepard has to kind of teach her about relationships, really.

...huh.

Kaidan word-puzzle untangling: after the Liara love triangle bit, he says "I'm glad you're still here," rather than "I'm glad you chose me."  At a different point, he mentions how he's glad that Shepard "will be here when it's over."

So... he isn't saying, "I'm glad you'll still be [alive]," like I'd thought; he's saying, "I'm glad you'll be here [with me]"?

...fascinating.  *studies under microscope*

ooh, awesome. i like this. yes. i don't think of kaidan as selfish, but i do think that when it comes to shepard, he is a little selfish. this supports that theory. kaidan doesn't like to share. i also think he wishes/wants the two of them to have something special, that no one else has - mebbe part of why he talks to her so openly? that even in his moments of uncertainty about their roles, he wishes to be more to her.

i want this to be the case - not sure if it is.

Right until bioware ASSUMED DIRECT CONTROL on the scene I thought it was going well.

ja, no joke.

i picked mostly paragon dialog options this playthrough and they HURT. i am torn between letting that stand (kyrie can't go back and re-say things - why should i?) or doing this again with the neutral options, which i *Remember* not being so bad. dunno.

incidentally, i did that on HardCore and only died at my first harbinger encounter. i even schooled the scions! i can't believe that. i had trouble with veteran last time. yay me!

now i'm thinking i should do insanity next time. i think i could take it:devil:

@Sage: Insanity is addicting.

I also have a youtube video of the Alexis/Kaidan Horizon dialogue if you want help for research without having to replay it. It's a mix of Paragon/Neutral options.

Good luck sage insanity is truly insane.

The neutral options come off best really overall. I did watch horizon on youtube with a modded PT and hearing Ash and Kaidan acting shocked when both Tali and Garrus are with Shep strange. Why exactly are they so horrified it seems that Tali and Garrus are back with Shep exactly?

Well for one thing, they're aliens. And Cerberus didn't resurrect them. So he's surprised they're still with Shepard in light of that.

Because the plot bunnies have them stuck elsewhere and it's jealousy.

Feisty Kaidan that's angry at Shepard... not so much Posted Image

I was pondering this recently.  I know we all hate how Horizon went down.  I agree with fortune here.  Despite the heartbreak, Kaidan is very sexy in the scene.  Perhaps because in ME1 he just follows Shepard.  He voices his own opinion, but he's a follower and at times you have to wonder it he would be up to going toe-to-toe with her.
Here he is independent--not her puppy (not meant to be mean, just in a following-her-everywhere way).  He is able to stand up to her on equal footing and possibly even coming out on top of a fight with her.
He's grown.  And its hot.

@the hug on Horizon.  I was watching the scene on youtube yesterday while writing and noticed what a long hug he gives her.  Despite how angry he gets later, its quite sweet at the moment.  Posted Image

*shrugs*  They are the Mass Effect equivalent of the Twi'lek women in Star Wars.  I think an interview on the making of Thane even obliquely references that.

Well Ash sounded horrified that Garrus and Tali where there.

While Kaidan sounded like he was betrayed by them as well.

Could be reading into it but there was some suprise, sadness, and anger mixed with an accusation it seemed when they saw them.

When Kaidan talks about Jump Zero and if you choose the dialogue about a bunch of teens finding physical things to keep them busy out there, Kaidan quite adamately says that he doesn't do that sort of thing--lightly anyways.  I think that also goes for relationships in general.
A 3-way relationship just doesn't work--not what you really want is a deep connection to someone and not just a physical thing.  If Shepard pushes for the 3-way, then she's not the person that he thought she was.

i agree. it IS hot.

i just keep thinking, "damn, a man with principles and decency and standing up for them - HAWT!"

only...he has his facts wrong :pinched:

not his fault, i think. and he does react a little too strongly, but given where he's coming from. hawt.

only complaint is that shep can't/won't have time to explain. but that is plot bunnies - and TIM

@ garrus tali there: well, if kaidan thinks shep's been alive all this time, then he wonders why she didn't contact him. he thinks that she obviously contacted garrus (Tali can't be there yet, though, mission is after that) - so he's pissed she called up garrus, but not him.

i take it as subtle push for femshep/garrus romance also, if shep chooses to go there.

moment of dialog i hate though "it's obvious you moved on" <--shep says.

really? it's OBVIOUS to you after five seconds of him saying "loosing you tore me up inside?" saying "i LOVED you" saying "how could you put me through that?" ...i mean, really? i don't see any of that angry eyebrows drawn dialog as "moved on"

mebbe for the vid. i will see how much mileage i get out of the vid i got. since i managed to save the particle beam for the praetorian, i may just run through again if i need to jump start the muse....sounds like i'm treating her like a motorcycle...

ACtually on the PC verion you can mod it so that any mission outside the IFF can be done at any time. Kaidan is possibly cheesed off that Garrus and Tali were there and not him, and possibly that they didnt contact him as well. Although noticing that Garrus was missing part of his head would have been interesting, cause its kinda hard to miss.

Yeah.  Shepard is rather dense here.  There are so many clues of his behavior that she doesn't pick up on.
I'm hoping that the time apart to grow for each will make their relatioship stronger in three.
I just wish it wasn't so darned long before we get to see it.  Posted Image

this is also what i hope for.

i sort of wish that the dialog didn't get hijacked the way it did at times, but i don't actually take issue with horizon as a narrative device. i actually am really excited to see a game where the LI develops as a relationship through several games, including hard times. as much as it KILLS me that kaidan is not present to help shepard on the suicide run, it makes their relationship seems more involved and real.

of course, all of that assumes that ME3 pulls off a really good reunion. i am hoping for it with guarded optimism.=]
