Yeah the Jacob romance was just awful.
The thought of Garrus without armour is not one I want in my head, plus all those teeth could give you a few doubts, lol.  Plus, to me, it felt like Shep took him under her wing in ME1 and he was like a brother to her, so I didn't have any interest in a romance with him, and I just felt it was too badly done for me.
Thane's flashback things really creeped me out.  Thank goodness you can skip through them, I really hate them and it turned me off Thane right away.
I just feel that the Kaidan romance was done so much better, and I prefer Kaidan to any of the options in ME2.

I liked the build up to Thane's romance. You get plenty of conversations before the romance even starts.



Jacob did actually have a few things good in his romance, like him asking Shepard if she's carrying any baggage (and Shepard gets to a few options to say what that may be) but as a whole it's easily the worst romance in both games.

Every time someone else plays a new part of the Jacob romance, it just gets worse. I wouldn't have thought that was possible, but people keep finding angrier, ruder, nastier responses hidden in his dialogue. I liked the man before I kept hearing some of his later reactions, and I definitely agree that he comes across as very reluctant to have a romance at first, (part of why I never did one), and Shep really seems to force herself on him. (Probably why he handles later set-backs so badly?)

While I agree that Kaidan is still my favorite, I can definitely see the romantic appeal to both Garrus and Thane, though I think, as is not uncommon in ME, what makes them good is what the player brings to them, not what BioWare bothered to write into them. (This is actually true of the Kaidan romance too, imho.)

My mainShep was faithful to Kaidan. For all other romances I created new Sheps who had no romantic connections to Kaidan whatsoever.

I still find Jacob *barf* regarding the things he says in the entire romance stuff and just plain rude regarding Thane and/or Garrus. It's not necessary to tell Shep to go hang on to either of them. i mean, he keeps pointing out he's no baggage guy but actually gets too easily pissed off. Friendship wise it could have gone differently. That goes for all characters in ME2 though. I wish there had been more friendship options if you don't pursue any romances. I really don't want to bash any characters or come across rude, so I will cut my Jacob comments short from now on. Apparently people don't really understand where I am coming from and I just got accused of character bashing in another thread. After all it's just a game and I am not being serious about all this but I don't really want to use the standard form all the time just so I can put ten thousand smileys behind everything so people understand me correctly.

therefore, moving on...bring Kaidan back in ME3! and love for everyone!

On the note of friendships, I hope that they beef up the friendship with Kaidan in ME3. Because in ME1 there's not really that much unless you romance him.

It would be nice if we actually got a bit more of a bio for Kaidan. We don't even know his birthday. I'd like to know more about his time in the Alliance rather than the BAaT stuff as well as what he's been doing since the Normandy got destroyed (I'm presuming we'll find that out though).

Precisely. Dr. Chakwas says Kaidan is well decorated so I'd be interested in hearing his war stories.

I'm really interested in what he's been doing in those two years and also AFTER what happened on Horizon. That would actually make a cool DLC story....Kaidan's mission after Horizon. Where did he go? What did he do? Did he go to another random colony in the Terminus Systems? Or did the Alliance finally start investigating the disappearance of colonies on a wider range ?

Anyway it does not matter. All of my femsheps stayed faithful to Kaidan ...

Neither Thane or Jacob appealed to me and while I adore Garrus, it would have been like romancing my little brother.

Hey Ruby,

*waves* I think I missed a lot myself. I think, I'm one of a minority in this thread since my MainShep romanced Kaidan (stayed faithful in ME2) and my other Sheps romanced Thane and Garrus. I like them and find them appealing.

I'm with you both there, Garrus was like a brother to my Shep too so romancing him was a big no no. I didn't think much of Jacob, i couldn't bring myself to try out the romances to see what they're like so i watched some youtube vids and didn't think much of any of them. I can see why people might go for a Garrus romance coz he's been with Shep through pretty much everything. Thane, though he was sweet in a way, i just felt too sorry for him to attempt a romance. I loved Kaidan's romance, you could tell there was love there whereas with the others it was more like rebounding and lust. I will stay faithful to Kaidan and will wait patiently for the reward and if Bioware know what's good for them they'd better make it a good one.

Like I said above, my femsheps care for Thane and Garrus... but not so much that they would start a romance...

We can't have gone through all of this to have Kaidan or Ash die at the end as a sacrifice to save the galaxy!  No.  I want a happy ending.  What kind of happy ending is it if Shepard saves the galaxy only to lose the only thing in it that matters to her. 
A ME2 love interest?  Fine.  Space 'em.  They are all shifty to start with.  Even Liara now that she's got her espionage thing going.  But Ash and especially Kaidan are good people.  Better people than Shepard, really since she will sometime do the wrong thing to get the job done.  But they don't deserve it.

So much catching up do to! 

There were things that I liked about each of the new characters but nothing that really intrigued me enough to be curious about trying their romances first hand.  YouTube was sufficient.   My Sheps often fight with Garrus and Thane but neither one of them intrigues me enough to romance them.

Garrus is a friend and like Sesh, I tend to cringe at his romance lines.  While Thane is an interesting character, it just seems to me like he's spent nearly his entire life being very disconnected from everyone except perhaps his wife.  And now his attempts to connect with life - with others - before he dies has a feeling of desperation to it.  Regardless of what he says, it doesn't always feel to me like he really *sees* Shep as a person but as more of an icon/image. So again, no thanks.  My Sheps prefer to wait for Kaidan.
