Nice recovery for top of page.

I'm working on marketing and trying to persuade  myself to move away from the keyboard for a little while and do some yoga.  I actually don't mind exercising. I just tend to want to do everything at once (check the thread, browse the internet, exercise, eat) which simply isn't possible!

Lol, thanks!
Maybe you just need to rearrange your room so you can do everything at once ;):D

Good morning everyone who came on since my last post. Been a bit busy at work ^^
So, here's a question I hope no one asked before.......
If Kaidan would've been with you at the attack on the Collector Base, would you have taken with you in your squad or put him in charge of a Fire Team or something else?
Also, if you take him with you to the boss fight, what do you think his reaction would be when TIM asks Shepard to keep the base? I mean he would very likely be against it, but how would he react to the question - and to Shepard when he/she considers it?

good morning everyone.

according to chakwas, kaidan had an impressive service record and received over a dozen special commendations at the start of me1.  he himself stated he'd never lost a soldier under his command to hostile action prior to ashley's death.  i doubt he was promoted twice since the destruction of the normandy without leading a squad during those two missing years so i'd have no issue with him taking charge of a team.  although i'd prefer he was with my femshep for purely selfish reasons.  i love watching him flare when he's using his biotics.

regarding the collector base decision, i think kaidan would advocate to destroy it.  i imagine he'd be disturbed by what happend to the humans in the pods and envision that whomever they gave it to would more than likely exploit its technology as opposed to utilize it.

I've wondered at his HUGE promotion from Lt. to Staff Commander in 2 years.  Seems like a lot.  Then again, he helped to defeat the attack on the Citadel and in the absence of Shepard to promote, they may have made an extra big deal in the media of him being a hero for PR reasons.  Not to mention his own qualifications.  Posted Image

I love watching him flare into action as well.  Him in cover leaning against a wall is good, too.

Now if I could manage that while doing the Standing Knee or Downward dog, I'd be in heaven. Posted Image

Right. Yoga. I don't have good balance at the best of times. Yoga is out of my league.

I've been running an eliptical for...15 years off and on now. Learned a long time ago how to read and run.

That's great!  I can read if I'm on a treadmill but I prefer to walk/run outside early in the a.m. so it's best not to distract oneself in that scenario!  I took up yoga because I started having back and balance problems. It took time but I did the strengthening exercises and slowly built up to more difficult ones. I'm still working on it.  Probably always will be.Posted Image

I tried the treadmill, but it got boring for me - I could never get the hang of reading & running. :P

instead I just like to listen to music and walk to places i'm going instead of driving. it works. :)

Okay I know that Shepard would be Savior of the Citadel... as such, but wouldn't the rest of the team be heros too.  I mean isn't the whole squad heroes?

I would think so.  At least the two you had with you.

Do we know what age Kaidan was when he was taken for BAaT training? It was closed when he was 17-18 and he joined the Alliance at 22, but I'm not finding an age for when he was taken. Anyone know?

@Jaer: the timeline on the wikia says Vyrnuus was hired in 2166, and that Alenko got his implant in 2167, and he killed Vyrnuus in 2168. BAaT was set up in 2160, but it doesn't say when Alenko showed up.

I got the impression from his dialogue that he was there for several years, but I can't remember anything specific. I am unhelpful, sorry.

I don't think it says anywhere, but I'd guess early teens just from the descriptions of things.

I'm getting this from the Wikia Mass Effect section

Kaidan was born in late 2151

BAaT was established in 2160

First L1 implants in 2163

Vyrnnus is hired for BAaT in 2166

2167 Kaidan gets one of the first L2 implants

Kaidan kills Vyrnnus in 2168

So he went to BAaT somewhere between the ages of 9-16 depending on if you had to have an implant in order to participate in BAaT

Any thoughts?

I'd guess you wouldn't have to have the implants yet. You'd want to teach the kids mental discipline first before handing over the weapons, so to speak.

I read a really good fic that theorized he showed up around 15 (so about 3 years in) but I got the impression in his dialogue, for no good reason, that the project was new when he was 'recruited', which would be around 9 or 10. (But 8 years there would seem likely to make him crazy, even if the students were only actively being abused for the last year.)

So, um, thoughts, but still not useful ones.

eta:  And I agree w/Sia, that there are things they could be training them on pre-implants.  Especially if they were working on developing the L2's, and knew they wanted something w/more of a punch than the L1's.

I thought I read somewhere that the implants had to be done before puberty or there were problems? Or did I make that up?

They have said that for later implants. Probably part of the reason for the nasty side effects of the L2's, actually, that the subjects were so old in comparison. (I'm pretty sure it says somewhere about Project Ascension that they do the implant surgery around 12 or so, not that I can find the reference atm.)

That makes sense. On Horizon, when you're talking with Delan he refers to Kaidan and says "I hear he's some kinda hero" which could imply that at least the team you had with you, if not the entire SR1 crew, were also recognized as having saved the Citadel.

Yeah.  And Garrus doesn't go around telling people who he is on Omega for fear of being recognized as THAT Garrus Vakarian.  Liara mentions how everyone wanted to be her friend afterwards.  Tali's hailed as a hero within the Migrant Fleet.  And I'm sure Wrex's fame helped him get set up as The King of Tuchanka.

Speaking of nasty side effects...I know this has been discussed before but I can't remember what the consensus was...are Kaidan's migraines a bi-product of his implant or a side effect of his biotic abilities? Or both?

Thanks, Jade, Sia and Jilly! I had some of that information but some...like the year Kaidan was implanted...I did not. That is a big help.

I got a question, if Kaidan got sent to BAaT because of his biotics, then got an implant later. Wouldn't that constitute that the amps are like a control device to fine tune the synchronization of a person's skill to control their biotics?

(trying to justify my fanfic :pinched:)

@Jaer: I've always assumed the migraines are implant specific, as that's pretty much what Chakwas says when you talk to her about him. I figured, as the implants are what let him do the biotic stuff, that overusing his abilities would make it worse, but that that's an irritating factor, not the root cause.

maybe the reference you're referring to is the galactic codex booklet.  it states the optimal age of implantation is with the onset of puberty (around 12 years of age).

There are obviously some sort of symptoms that allow biotics to be identified beyond showing up in a thorough medical exam, but it is strongly implied that there is no way to control said biotic impulses without implants in the neural-network.

(Again, all based on inference and personal opinion.  They don't explain a lot of it in much detail.  And my memories from the books are really fuzzy, so I'm no longer sure which of my assumptions are based on actual events in canon somewhere, and which are just things I imagined made sense and stuck with.)
