back on topic: one thing i wonder about is manifestation of biotic auras as relating to strong emotion. as i recall, samara flares blue during the shep romance before pulling away from a kiss - liara flares (probably intentionally) at noveria when threatened....

it's too bad they didn't use ANY of that for kaidan in the animation. he's just in ashley's armor with her AR most of the time. <_<

in ME3, i would LOVE for him to get his own frickin' animation short intro of looking awesome WITH the biotics. :D

So, Kaidan is one of the most powerful human biotics...would he have been more powerful had he been implanted at the onset of puberty, say age 12? Would that have made his biotic strength more comparable to Jack's? Or was it the mental/emotional conditioning done to Jack that gives her the stronger edge?

since we have no information on kaidan's birthday, only that it's later in the year, he could have been implanted when he was 15.

If we know he killed Vernus when he was 17 and he was implated the year before, that made him 16

@jaer - sorry i'm not able to offer input with your jack/kaidan question.

@night - kaidan's birth month is a mystery, so the implantation could have occurred prior to his 16th birthday. that's why i suggested he may have been 15 instead.

But Jack is an L5.
She also is "stronger", IMO, because she doesn't have the self-imposed restraints that Kaidan has.  If she kills some innocents in the process, she doesn't really care.  Kaidan on the other hand would purposely avoid collateral damage.
I'm sure that an individual's potential is variable as well.  Rhana from the few descriptions didn't sound like a particularly talented biotic (comparitively speaking).  Some people are probably innately stronger than others (like in the Force).  Jack was probably destined to be a stronger biotic user.

kaidan kept his biotics in check until eden prime.  also, his power is comparable to an asari's.  i have no clue what that means in relation to jack.

i'm just not very helpful here.  :?

I agree with this.

It always comes up in Kaidan/Jack comparisons, as well. Whether she is stronger with sheer power or with sheer lack of the social mores that tend to define Kaidan.

Well, the Rahna bit I'm mixed on, but I worked that out in GirlT3 to my own satisfaction, lol.

In an O/T way...can I just say this thread rocks? I can toss a question and have instant, thought-out input. I need facts, they're tossed my way with references. Best Thread EVAH.

@Sage: Yes. We need a proper, impressive, biotic introduction to Alenko in ME3. Rescuing someone, preferably, even if it's not Shep, cause that would highlight his personality pretty well. They could even have Ashley introduced in the same 'the cavalry rides in' plot point, as long as they get individual animations, sentinel vs soldier.

@Jaer: Glad we could help. (And yes, this thread is awesome.) I love when people have useful questions to get us thinking about our ME/Kaidan assumptions. It's always interesting.

Jack's implant is an L5, for which we have no information how it relates to an L2. Part of the research done to Jack was specifically about breaking down the mental barriers that prevent other human biotics from reaching the maximum potential of their biotics. She also has a series of surgical scars for unknown reasons. Do know that after the Teltin Project failed, they took their research to the Ascension Project where a Cerberus operative was actually injecting something into Gillian Grayson, who had the L4 implant. Gillian's own power was far beyond what she should have been capable of achieving at her young age.

So, ah, no idea if Kaidan's ability matches Jack. Eventually biotic research is going to out perform the gains made early on, though.

I thought that all the first generation human biotics they could find were shuttled off to BAaT as soon as they could find them.  They didn't care about implanting them right away necessarily - or even know that it would help - they were interested in studying them.

Kaidan points out specifically that they were having trouble getting kids to control their abilities until they brought in aliens, so maybe the aliens was what made the company realize they needed implants instead of just biotic kids.

*doesn't know*

Whatever happened to Kaidan, we like how he turned out.

That is a ridiculously good point.  I think we keep trying to grant Conatix a lot more competence and forethought than they probably had.  They were really just bumbling around in the dark w/no idea how anything worked.  I mean, they hired turians rather than asari in an attempt to keep what they were doing off the galactic radar, but I'm starting to think the whole mess that was BAaT was more an exercise in incompetence than nastiness.

(Not that Conatix didn't probably engineer exposures, nor do I think they particularly cared about the kids as individuals, but I don't think they were trying to torture their experimental subjects.  I think the end result was that they did, but... *shrugs*  Difference in intent is interesting, if not particularly relevant.)

I wish I had tried adept out sooner.

Nothing quite says GET YER ARSE TO MARS! like a Throw Field. Can someone give a defense for Kaidan's letter since this Femshep is getting pushed to 30 and staying with Kaidan. but his email is cringe worthy and bearable at the same time. Seriously though it made me want to facepalm so many times about well 20% in.

I'd gladly take one to the bed right now. I hate system's reinstall, lack of disc space made me trash all the uncompressed videos I've got. But now ME2 works smoothier than ever, new videos won't be glitchy anymore.

Sorry for ot, but does anyone know any good (and free preferably) software for HDD backup and restore? Send me a PM, TIA ;]

why thank you.

there's a chapter 35 up now, too. looks like valhalla is going to be a big ol' mead hall in the sky, the way things are going.

@ sirius: i'm glad you like the screens. they're not nearly as awesome as akodos, or a high res, but they amuse me.

@Giggles: His email is a masterpiece of conflicted emotions. He's attempting to be honest, while giving Shepard a way out in case he totally ruined things by losing his temper on Horizon, while also attempting to let her know how sorry he is in case she is, inexplicably in his opinion, still willing to give him a chance. I very much get the feeling from the email that he's sure he's lost her, again, and this time because he couldn't believe she was back from the dead when she suddenly appeared in front of him, so he's blaming himself entirely.

Or that's my take on the email. I actually find it much more difficult to deal with than the actual Horizon scene. Unlike Ashley's email, which has a much more basic "I miss you Skipper, even if we're totally screwed up" message. imho, ymmv, etc. etc.

I have mixed emotions about his e-mail. I know he's just being honest (drinks with the doctor) and leaving a way out, it still hurt that he couldn't just come out and say "I love you, I need you, let's get back together." After Ilos, you would think he would've gotten rid of the whole "always leave a way out" thing.
