From memory, Kaidan references Joker twice and talks to him once... and Joker talks to Kaidan once and references him twice... And if you don't count that whole almost kissing Shepard and looking annoyed thing...

... Well, whatever they are, I'd say they're about even.

After thinking about it, I might've been inclined to say "they're coworkers, not friends" if Joker didn't slip with the name in ME2.  But... *shrug?*  Just curious to see what other people think.

It's a bit different in the games and story of how friendships seem to work. 
I consider Joker to be one of my Sheps closest friends by the time ME2 rolls around. Add Kaidan, Garrus, Tali and Chakwas to that. Anderson fits in there too.

If I may, I suggest checking out the AO3.  It allows adult fanfiction, but isn't all about adult fanfiction like AFF is.  (So people won't complain if you get plot in their adult-rated fiction and people who don't want to read it can skim it or skip it entirely by use of the rating system).

I mean... if you want to write higher rated stuff.  I've been content with fades-to-black during my ficauthoring.

sage, i got four emails about chapter 36 and read both endings.  i kept laughing that i had so many notifications.  ff.net and i seem to be at an impasse though.  things disappear then reappear.  i'll attempt to leave a review tomorrow.  i go over to aff to read the parallel device and fort's stuff.  i never post comments because i don't want anyone googling my username (it's an anagram of my real name) and noticing i'm on that site.  i'm uncertain how i'd explain that one.  i seriously should start my own thread on the kaas 'a complete nobody ruminates kast fanfiction' because i probably annoy several posters with my prattling on about how much i love everyone's fics.

Same here, but then I was like that with every major point in the story. I really, really hoped we would get another mail prior to hitting the relay. Something for Shepard as she goes on her suicide mission, but no. I guess Kaidan didn't know or he would have send her something. One line would do "come back to me" or something else cheesy.
Then I expected something after returning from her suicide mission...but again nothing. Where the whole Kaidan/Shepard story is important to me, obviously Bioware doesn't feel the same way. It's about the Reapers, about a woman saving a universe to stubborn and arrogant to save itself I guess. Well darn
