He does appear to be very tired.  But tired doesn't mean intrinsically changed.  And he's probably been working hard, but we have no indication that he's ever not worked hard.

Eh.  I don't know - it was just a thought that it could be read either way.  I guess the bottom line is that there wasn't enough Kaidan in ME2.  <_<

I disagree.  We don't see much of Kaidan in ME2, but he seems older.  LIke was stated above more "hardened."
Emotionally, he was stuck mourning Shepard for 2 years.  But in his duty he moved on.
He had to have done some impressive stuff to have risen to Staff Commander from Lieutenant in 2 years.
The big thing is that he is able to stand up to and hold his ground against Shepard.  He's also able to walk away.  Now, I'm not saying that he was right in those things.  Just that I don't know if he would have been able to 2 years prior--even if he wasn't her subordinate.  I see him as a little more independent.  A little more confident in himself/his abilities than in ME1.

With that thought, its off to bed to read some of Night's stuff.

is it possible that being stuck in a rut has changed him? i get the impression that kaidan has NOT dealt well with shepard being gone, but thought he had dealt with it well. i see yes, stuck in rut because he only just went out on a date and saw that as "having a life" (?) - seems like his old no shore leave thing - but i also see that he's become more independent as well - not the least of which being that he seems to be working alone on horizon.

i also just realized that while i've sort of been of the "kaidan has a reason to move on, it's been 2 years but shep doesn't cause for her it's been 2 months" mindset in the past. i'm rethinking this a little, because when you figure the timeline, they only had...what? 3 months "together" as a couple, and goodness knows how little time they had to figure things out. i guess what i'm saying is, depending on the shep, their relationship could have been any number of things from true love to still working stuff out to eh...tension-relieving smex night before ilos and nothing more. it's very possible that given how short and undefined their relationship was before shep died, horizon really could be a deal-breaker. okay, that my turn to just randomly think out loud here.

Because yes, their relationship could easily have been still so undefined that Horizon could easily be a deal breaker Obviously not one for most of us, but I don't think there's anything wrong with a Shepard who needed someone to help her recover from everything: ME1, death, resurrection, Horizon, suicide mission ...

I agree with this. 

And in general - a lot can depend on the individual Shepard.

but Miranda did get a trailer. I assume if they did that kind of marketing again they'd use Ash. Because you know, people who are new to the series who decide to jump into a game that's into the 3rd installment will be confused. that can't happen.
I would wish to see a Garrus, Tali, Joker, Kaidan/Ash, and Liara. not too sure about garrus and tali since they might be dead and the others are alive for a fact, but who knows.

Gah, thank goodness it was a femShep with no ME1 history and therefore hadn't romanced Kaidan. Also, it has officially become Kaidan or no one for me in this game.
